I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.
"I would kill for you. I would die for you" would you take a break for me? Would you sit down and rest? For a day, a week, a year? Would you let others take care of your needs for me? Would you let yourself be held for me? By me?
v intrigued by the insinuation that removing death, disability and disfigurement from the siblings was necessary to create a ‘perfect’ capitalist world under reggie’s control. that their bodies and their trauma needed to be sanitised and presentable. that what might in another show have passed for a ‘happy ending’ where everyone is ‘fixed’ is in this show a harbinger of something far more sinister. hargreeves denies them their trauma, for which he is to blame, and denies them the physical marks of that trauma as though that could erase the harm he’s done. all that they have lived through has been erased.
kaz brekker has the world in the palm of his fucking hand
kerch- he's the biggest gang leader in the barrel and has Jesper and Wylan, both former dregs and friends, on the Merchant Council
fjerda- has a former dreg and one of a kind grisha on the fjerdan throne
ravka- its former king and current queen have sought his help in performing illegal activities twice (and looks as if they'll be doing that again)
not to mention the fact that inej, his girlfriend has created herself a reputation to be feared in just a year on the seas
his potential scope of power is insane

Kaz, to Inej: You’re too good for this world.
Kaz: But that’s okay.
Kaz: I’ll be an asshole for the both of us.
I think the siblings are totally aware that five is hell-bent to save the world. What they’re not quite aware of is that five’s hell-bent to save the world for them
Considering five’s attitude (”You think you’re better than us. You always have”), his siblings probably think that five’s desire to save the world is mostly for his own gain
If only they knew that five wouldn’t bother if it weren’t for them

Diego is the kind of guy who says no to a movie that has been picked out for family night because "It's stupid" and goes off to do something else but secretly watches it from afar pretending to be busy and as the movie gets further along he slowly moves closer until he's right behind the couch with his arms crossed and fully invested into the movie
they’d ask him if he wants to sit and he’d get all offended that they’d think he’d ‘watch that trash’ before repeating the process all over again
SPIDERMAN³ + the amazing struggle to wash their suits 🧺

You know what sold me on The Umbrella Academy as a show?
The Day that Wasn't.
The episode that points everything forward, upward, out. Finally, finally, the Hargreeves have tilted their trajectory futurebound. Not stagnant, not regressing. Things work how the audience has been screaming at their screens for it to go. (well except for the Dancing in the Moonlight, but even that is a part of the fantasy of one of the characters).
The whole episode, really, is too good to be true. Its a dream. A fiction within in the fiction. If we didn't know better, we'd believe it to be that. A cruel trick played to mess with the Academy's minds and make them stumble later on.
But that's not the point of it at all. In fact, they don't even know it *could* have happened. And it could have. The Day That Wasn't wasn't some cruel hallucination of a fiction none of them could ever achieve. We see it happen. *The audience* sees it happen. But we are its only witnesses.
Klaus doesn't know that in one version of events, one *so* close to his own, that he summoned Dave.
Diego never will know that his mother broke through her programming for *him*.
Viktor was just a step ladder away from changing his destiny.
And then Five returns, for once, too soon. Every victory, erased.
The last 50 minutes of television are now null and void. Not one character will recall it, learn from it, reference it. Because it would never be lived. Except for the audience. We remember.
In terms of moving the plot forward, The Day That Wasn't is useless. Nothing from it, other than Five's actions parallel to it, exist canonically. Klaus never tells Diego about Dave because Diego is never there in the attic in the first place. There's no Allison around when Luther discovers the truth about his moon research. But we still know how it could have played out.
And that's what made me love this show. In a single episode, the audience is able to finally understand Five's plight, if not inverted. If the Apocalypse was born from the Day that Was and saving the world spurred from the Day that Wasn't, is it not feasible that on some alternate timeline they were switched? Is Five not trying to bring about the Day That Wasn't for all of season one?
Is it not Five, blinking into that family meeting, clutching a briefcase, that ensured it would never come to be?
And, for once, Five is no oracle. He is not burdened with the knowledge of what will or could be. We are. And there's no one to tell. No way to fix the story. All we can do is watch.
