Watching Thunderbolts is such a weird experience, as an OG mcu fan and Sam Wilson fan too, because it is not a bad movie, and i want to love it but so many great things they took from the mcu i loved and devalued the for the sake of this movie.
Sam being next Captain america and leader of the new avengers with his own team is what makes sense and seeing this team of the “new avengers” just rubs me the wrong way.
Giving “on your left” line to Walker a man who tried to kill Sam?? Just the whole Walker being an avenger and a redeemed character doesn’t sit right with me, I actually hate it and hate him. And bucky being all buddy-buddy with him? HATE that.
In the post credit scene them talking negatively about Sam and calling him dumb and Bucky saying nothing? #notmybucky hate that so much
Avengers tower being their new headquarters and sentry fight being where the iconic Loki/Tony scene happened in avengers 2012, like i know it is for nostalgia and easter eggs but there’s a way to do it without disrespecting the entire franchise that came before and what people loved about it and this was not that.
And don’t get me started on the entire movie being huge disrespect to Sam Wilson and his story.
Also like yeah, Alexei building a relationship with Yelena and crying over her is emotional but where was that for Natasha, was she only worth 4 minutes of manpain on a dock? The only project that did my girl kinda right i would say is Hawkeye
That movie would have been good if it didn’t have the 20+ moves behind that it devalued and disrespected, i know newer watchers will love it and find it enjoyable, but for myself who has been an avid watcher and a fan since 2009, i found it very hard to enjoy even the good parts of it.
And one more thing, actually a few more thing, y’all know that Sam Wilson fought against the Skovia accords aka government controlling the avengers right?
This lawsuit isn’t about oh Sam feels entitled to be The avenger, this is about Sam not wanting the government to be in control of the avengers, AS HE NEVER HAS, it’s important to me that you know this.
And “it went poorly” no shit, fuck anyone who babys bucky AGAIN over Sam being justifiably angry at him. it went poorly, of course it did, they both fought against the government in civil war and even tfatws, and he had that whole “this is not what Steve would have wanted” white man pain arc over government giving the shield to walker AND STILL Sam welcomed this man into his very tight circle and then he goes and becomes the “New Avenger”, working with government AND walker, like cry me a river. And do NOT come to with the “we own your ass” comment by Yelena like it makes everything better and government’s involvement zero, bc you watched the post credit scene, you saw they work with the government.
Sam wilson didn’t spend years on the run, in jail, being hunted, being disrespected, being shot just for the temu avengers to call him dumb because he is still fighting for the same thing that he has always fought for.
And what pisses me off more is that mcu KNOWS how to make good movies and knows how to make good movies without disrespecting black characters, but still they are disrespecting their black captain america and scrambling for the next mediocre white man to lead the avengers into their next big team-up movie, because they just will always prioritize fan favorite uwu white characters in the spirit of an easy cash grab.
They can shove their new civil war storyline where the sun don’t shine, bc this is not civil war, this some random GOVERNMENT EMPLOYED superheores, bucky and the man that tried to DECAPITATE Sam fighting with a righteous man that has always fought for what’s right and has never wavered. there will be no #teamsam and #teambucky for me like it was for cap and iron man, because there is no “civil war 2” be ause there is not “team” or “family”, Sam doesn’t even know these people.
I stuck with mcu even through the DISASTER that was secret invasion, but honestly, they can keep every single movie they make, until they put some respect on Sam Wilson and Antony Mackie’s name
And let me finish this by saying i really did go into this movie with an open mind and wanting to love it because i love Bucky, but this movie made no sense and most of the plot and characterizations came out of nowhere and it makes me so sad, because the bucky we left off with in tfatws and even cap4 was so good, his and Sam’s dynamic was one of the best, if not the best in mcu, but well, here we are now.
In conclusion, fuck them kids (thunderbolts, i refuse to call them “new avengers”) and fuck you too(mcu)
