Evolution of inclusion

Even something so simple as Hiccup sitting down to eat reflects upon his changed status in Berk society.  At first, he does not even try hard to sit down with the other teens, even though there is clearly room; and Snotlout, just to doubly ascertain Hiccup would not include himself amongst his other peers, scoots over to block Hiccup from a potentially open seat.

Then Hiccup, still believing himself an outcast, continues to sit by himself - but others rush to join him.  Even Snotlout throws himself into the seat right beside Hiccup and Tuffnut runs over the table stepping on dishes in the scramble to join him.

By Riders of Berk, Hiccup no longer has to question his place, but instead walks right up and sits beside his peers without any hesitation.
