What the Endeavour Plushie Signifies
The Endeavour plushie is obviously extremely important to Hawks-it’s in every flashback of his, always seen clutching/cuddling it. It’s of course a source of comfort, his only source of comfort actually, as he’s hugging it tightly during the most difficult times of his childhood. :
It’s also a motif of his hope, determination, and dreams of helping others and for the heroes.
The plushie also comes ‘alive’ when heroes become a reality for Keigo, which implies that the plushie in a way represents his perception of Endeavour and the heroes, but also his heart. The plushie is also a metaphor of his heart. One major indication of this is that it only has eyes, no mouth-and as multiple meta have pointed out, Hawks is the most honest when his eyes are revealed/exposed while his mouth is concealed. The plushie also mirrors Hawks’ current appearance in a way:
The plushie ‘comes alive’, when he starts to believe in heroes and his heart starts to pound in relief and childish glee. Keigo is shown to tightly clutch the plushie in the above panels, with a shadow overcasting the plushie, when he’s hearing his mom asking him ‘why was he born’, implying how he was literally guarding his heart, how those instances cast a dark shadow/darkness in his heart. Him clutching while with the Commission, also shows how he was guarding his heart, while making the choice. In that flashback with Dabi, by holding the plushie’s eyes up to his eye-level it portrays how much he’s speaking from his heart, his true heart’s desire. Usually the plushie is at his chest, keeping his heart at bay, but by putting it at his eye level, it implies that he was listening to his heart for the first time.
That plushie was Keigo’s first friend, always there to hug, and the only fond memory of his childhood.
