ah i was seeing similar reactions to the translation, not just the whole "my one and only" thing but i saw some jpn fans saying the translations were off, out of character, or just ... really missing the mark of the original text. idk i feel really bad that viz translations are using a relationship like satosugu's to queerbait when they genuinely cared for each other.
Yeah. There are a lot of things mistranslated in VIZ release, but this one especially gets the most attention - since it is implied (no clear confirmation though) that it is what Gojou said to Getou during Getou’s last moment.
Maybe I’ll make clear for others too here, the actual word that Gojo said in the original text is 僕の親友だよ たった一人のね (read as boku no shinyuu da yo, tatta hitori no ne), which is better translated as “He was my best friend. The only one I ever had”
If you reverse translation of “my one and only” it’d be 唯一無二 (read as yuuitsu muni) which is commonly used in romantic context of someone you love dearly and “can’t be replaced”. The term is too romantic of for the context of their canonical relationship - might even bordering queerbaiting. And that’s what the jpn fans are talking about.
