Okay so legitimately, I was always so confused why people painted BotW Link to be such a blank slate.  Of course I primarily played the Japanese version of the game.  But then I learnt about the English localisation and I felt like the English community was really robbed by the localisation team’s decision.

To me he has so many things to say/note, including:

Showing love, compassion, thoughtfulness, and care to the people who needs his help. 

(Always notes the smile on Koko’s face after they cook with each other, such as the nostalgic smile and tears she had when they cooked the Energised Honey Apple, which was her mother’s specialty).

Putting ‘goro’ at the end of his sentences to copy how the Gorons speak to him.

Notes how much he wants to see Zelda’s smile again and views her in such a gentle and good light.

Notes how the Master Sword (Fi) seems happy that he has recovered the sword finally.

Believes (and hopes) that Zelda is happy by his accomplishments after the Master Sword trial and gives blessing to his growth.

Wonders if he’s a true hero now that he’s wearing/obtained the Tunic of the Wild.

Writes recipe notes at the end of quest logs of new things he learns.

Mentions how exhilarating it is to ride on the big horse that he captured!

Notes how Toffa’s grandfather said that Princess Zelda used to ride her white stallion gracefully and it was a beauty unmatched in this world.
