I think the marketing failure around Jennifer's Body is an enormous part of what makes it such a brilliant master class film. You market this film with these male gazey shots of the current Hollywood sex symbol, you make it seem like a pseudo lesbian soft core porno, you then bring all these men who just want to goon to Megan Fox into the theatre. You sit them down. They're ready to watch the extended cut of her scene in bad boys. And instead you subject them to what rape feels like for women. You force these misogynistic straight men who came to the theater to get their rocks off to watch Megan Fox get shoved into the back of a van, taken to a remote location, and ritualistically sacrificed in a way where any idiot can tell it's a metaphor for sexual assault but which no one would find sexy, and then you make them watch her go to her best friend's house and throw up black bile all over the place. You make her gross and unsexy and in pain. And then you make it gay for real in a way that straight men have a hard time comprehending let alone fetishizing.

If you're a capitalist it's a terrible marketing decision but if you're a feminist and a troll it's the most brilliant move anyone has ever made.

also i just want to say because why not but i feel so bad for good omens fans and also for the witcher fans. here's why: back in good old days, if those shows were one episode a week thing, tumblr would be crazy about these shows for MONTHS. even YEARS. (low number of episodes does not matter because do you remember sherlock). there would be theories,anticipation, and a sense of togetherness when the show would air. now you don't get to experience it or even process it because it's all posted at once and if every single person on the planet doesn't stream it in 24 hour period it might be not only cancelled but also removed from streaming . like. riverdale being updated once a week in this time and era is revolutionary praxis at this point

@unemployedcrowley #and now like even if you try to meter out the episodes for yourself it doesn't have the same effect because it's not the same for everyone#so it encourages everyone to watch through to the end as quick as possible so they can participate in the brief explosion of attention IT LITERALLY DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME EFFECT because. to truly avoid spoilers you have to be off social media for the whole time until you watch the very end. which is hard at this day and age. even if you watch an episode a day YOU KNOW how this ends and you know that generally people are.... angry? disappointed? and not hopeful at all? that's discouraging. when it was an epiosode a week you missed 42 minutes of the show and even with spoilers you had a whole week to catch up! now? there are 6 hours of material you HAVE to consume AS FAST AS YOU CAN or else it gets cancelled and you feel out of the fandom loop
