Word count : absolutely no clue lol
Summery: after dying on the ice before Adam can get to Victor, he gave his word to find you in your next life, however long that may take.
As you lay there in the snow, trying oh so desperately to keep your breath even, the pain in your side making it difficult.
You knew going after Victor was a death sentence. He was paying a very dangerous game hunting his creation and as his assistant and protege you had to follow. Not because you cared for Victor.
No.
You cared for Adam.
Victor’s creation.
The name fit him so well the first time you looked at him the morning after the lightning storm that gave him life.
The same eyes, innocent, curious and afraid were now looking at you across the ice but now full of sorrow, rage and sadness.
You wanted to be there for him, for the man you knew he was, the man that you wanted to know more, to appreciate, to love.
But Victor had other plans as he shot at you as he was trying oh so desperately to run after Adam ripped the dynamiter out his hands and prayed for death.
And as he was taken by a group of sailors you were painting the snow under you red.
So much red.
As your eyes meet Adam’s as he approaches you, the furs on his shoulders still smouldering and the wounds still healing you saw a glimpse of the creature you first meet.
A smile stretched on your lips as tears rolled off your face quickly turning in to sobs as the creature landed on his knees next to you pulling you in to his arms, you still smell the burning flesh and blood on him but you kind on as tight as your weak hands can hold on and shook with sobs.
You see his mouth moving, but you don’t hear him, pain overcoming your senses and you just cried harder.
“I’m so sorry.” You cried, “I wished to be here for you, your comfort, your support, your friend-“ you started stuttering and he just held you closer.
The only human left who loved him full hearted.
You felt water drops on your face only to see Adam crying too.
You reach out your hand and brush his cheek, wiping the tears and tracing the stitches gently.
The end was coming, and he was terrified.
“Promise me, you will find me again”
For a second Adam looked shocked.
“What is the meaning of your words?” his reply was a little more than a whisper as he held his love in his arms.
“Find me again, in another life, in another body, with a different name but please, find me in my next life, I want to see you well” you smiled at him as bright as you could. Before feeling the cold consume you and it was hard to keep your eyes open.
“I will always find you” he said gently and his cold lips kissed the top of your head one last time “I shall walk till the end of the earth but I will find you, my beloved” with thies parting words he laid your body to rest.
Standing up, looking towards the fires next to the ship, determined rage booms in his chest once again. He still had work to do.
200 years later
One moment you were getting ready for bed, the English exam you have in the morning at college making it hard to focus on anything, only now you were staring at someone.
The room around you is white, almost too white, burning your eyes if you look too much.
As you look at the person in front of you, your heart comes to a halt and your breath is stuck in your lungs.
It’s you.
Same eyes, same face, hair and cut. But the clothing, looked old, very worn, boots and trousers, a thick jacket with a fur on top, a shirt peeking out, bandages of each arm.
Is that dried blood on the shirt ?
So many questions race in your head as you look at this version of you and before you can open your mouth you hear your voice.
“He has been waiting way too long for you”
Confused and scared you can only stare as she starts walking to you.
“Find him, for the both of your sakes”
“Wait what’s are-“ you didn’t finish as the other you swung her fist and landed a punch right between your eyes, sending a surge of pain through your scull.
You land on the floor of your shared apartment, having slipped off the couch and landing face first in to the hard floor with a loud banging.
As a pained moan leaves your mouth you’re meat with an ever worse pain as you feel your head splitting in two.
Images, memories of someone from so long ago it feels like a movie and not a memory.
You scream as the images keep flashing even with your eves tightly shut.
You see him, a creature, stitched together. Bid eyes and so much love in them-
“Hey! What’s all the noise! It’s like 3 in the morning and I have classes at 8!?”
It takes a lot of strength to open an eye at the voice and as the man is now clear in your view an unbridled rage boils over.
Victor.
Your roommate.
With everything in you, you leap and punch him square in the nose, a crunch loud in the room.
As the man lands on the floor covering his nose his cries of pain filling the room.
“What the fuck was that for !?! Are you loosing your mind or did you hit your head on the way down !?” He yells looking at you from the floor.
Disgust filled your eyes but only a second later your mind is filled with Adam.
Adam.
A cold fills your body like no other feeling ever before. 200 years.
He’s been alone for 200 years.
Does he still remember? Was he looking for you all third years ? Is he alone? Is he lonely? Cold ? Scared ?
You were ripped out of your thoughts when Victor says “Ah, so you remember I assume” he long got up from the floor, blood dripping from his nose.
“This has to be a cruel joke” your say harshly “ Unfortunately dear assistant, note a joke” he wiped some of the blood of his face with the side of his hand.
“Not your fucking assistant and how long since you remember everything” the look in you’re eye cold and filled with rage, the same man stood in front of you as the one back 200 years ago.
Even his stupid hair is the same.
“Calm down, it not like I wanted to remember my life and previous sins back in the late 18 hundreds” he glared at you “and you’re welcome by the way, as if you’d know how to find the creature without me”
What ?
“Oh come on as if you’d think I didn’t wanna find him as well” he says looking to the floor, the drops of blood drying “I have my own desires to repent for my past mistakes, as funny as that sounds”
“You are still just as much of an asshole as you were back then, where’s Adam and how on earth did you track him down” you folded your arms over you’re chest not taking your eyes off Victor. “Having the internet and access to video footage of cctv cameras help, he’s kinda hard to miss him, you know” he almost laughs as he explains there was a sighting of a “monster” only a week ago in the forests near the borders of Germany.
You slap your hands on your thighs as you stand up from your chair you sat in the past hour listening to all the info Victor has on Adam’s presumed location. Over the years he was spotted at multiple countries, but he always comes back to Germany from some reason.
Looking for someone.
“Looks like we’re going to Germany” you say looking at Victor, who was now pulling up plain tickets already.
The cold winter air stings the tips of your ears as you walk through knee deep snow. It’s been 4 days since the last time Adam was stopped here by local hunters and your body is starting to give out on you.
Victor is trying to keep up but he fell behind multiple times, the bad leg from his previous life was present in this one however it manifested as joint issues rather that the limb missing completely.
As you fell through another patch of snow it’s becoming more and more difficult to lift yourself out. You can’t stop now. You’ve been on this search for weeks now and resources were growing thin.
It’s a half a days walk later as you reach a frozen over lake that you fall in to the show, breathing heavy, frost covering your lashes.
Victor flowed suit and fell next to you, looking over the lake, a low chuckle comes from him “Well doesn’t this look familiar?”
You ignore him as your heart hurts and lungs burn but not from the cold.
Tears roll down your face, freezing on your skin.
The thought of how he was all those years, what hardships he had to face, how cruel the people were to him, never accepting or seeing the gentle soul inside the patchwork body.
You didn’t notice as your body moved on its own, mind unclear but body decided to keep going, difficult steps switch to light and easy as you ran on the ice of the frozen lake.
You miss him. God you miss him. Even in your last moments of your previous life your heart swelled with love and adoration for the being. For Adam.
Your Adam.
The tears turn to raging sobs as you kept running on the ice, yelling out his name, desperation overcoming you and you strained your throat, hoping the louder you are, he might hear you.
He has to.
You need him to hear your cry, to find you again.
Your legs give out on you, pace slowing down and falling to your knees. The cold becomes a part of you, wondering if this is how Adam feels all the time. The world around you deathly silent.
The only sounds was Victor, far behind you yelling in anger of how dangerous it was to run in the middle of the lake.
Nothing feels in place, nothing is right and your world is crumbling at your feet, your failure having a familiar sound of cracking ice.
Cracking ice?
You could only look down so your knees when the ice cracked beneath you and all you could feel is cold.
Deathly cold.
You were bobbing up at the broken ice, gasping for any air you can get, swallowing frozen water along with your breaths, grabbing on to ice only to slip and fall back in to the ice cold abyss.
Your head goes under and the only things you could see is a shadow on the surface as you sank deeper, movements slower.
God it’s cold.
As you sank deeper, the images of Adam flash before you, your love, his first words, the leaves he has given you, the time you meet after the tower collapsed, everything, it’s just him and you smile, him once again being the only thing on your mind while dying again.
But death never comes.
One moment you were sinking further in to the lake, the darkness ready to swallow you whole. And the next you feel a strong grip on your wrists as you are pulled out of the water in one swift motion.
You must be seeing things. This is your mind descending to madness. Yet the madness takes form of your dearly beloved.
Ears ringing, breathing shallow as you keep coughing up water, but you hear it clear as day.
“I have kept my word, I have found you once more” his voice as just as you remembered, rough, but gentle as he pulls you in closer.
He smells of pine, snow and a little smoke.
The last thing before your eyes close was his smile, oh how you’ve missed that smile.
Waking up in large bed in what looked to be small cottage, the first thing that you felt was you are warm, very warm. Trying to sit up you felt a weight on your middle, looking down, a patchwork arm is laying protectively over you.
Tears spill as your eyes land on the owner of said arm sleeping next to the bed you lay in.
Daring not to make a sound to disturb his slimmer, your hand gently lay on the top of his head.
His breaths are soft as you allow your fingers to tangle in his locks, long and soft.
He looked exactly the same, exhaustion prominent on his features, new small scars on parts of his face, signs of his years alone, constantly moving, running.
You want to pull him close, warm him up, remind him of the feelings that are bursting at the seams in your body, the love you wish to express, the kindness he deserved.
You gently brushed your fingers over the stitches on his face, parts have became ever so slightly pinker and the scars are not as red and angry as before, giving him a slightly more human look.
He stirred under your gaze, a humm came from deep within his throat as his eyes opened a small bit, blinking away the sleep before they find yours. You were sill week from your dip in to the frozen waters, body finally giving up while your mind raced a mile a minute.
“Hello my love” left your lips as a gentle smile stretched on your face. Not breaking your gaze he stretched out his aching body, stiff from staying in one place long, you hear his spine crack and pop back in to place, you hoped he wasn’t in pain. “How are you, beloved ?” Beautiful brown eyes you’ve longed to see again look at you with such affection you wish to never part with him again, not even for a moment. The arm Adam had around you effortlessly wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer to the edge of the bed and him as well as his other arm snakes around your back, not wishing to pull you out from the warm bed too much. “At peace” you whisper to him as you burry your face in the crook of his neck, taking in the pleasant scent of your lover. In return he pulled you closer and held you tighter, the moment precious and nothing could ruin the peace that has finally found the both of you.
“Ah! Assistant! You’re looking well as rain after your little dive a few days ago!”
Victor.
Of course.
Glaring at him from your place in Adam’s embrace you grumble “ Must you enter in such a manner? I believe I didn’t call for you nor do I think your presence was wanted” at that Victor only smirked.
“True, but unfortunately for you we’d have to go back home at some point, I believe we’re both are on the brink of expulsion at college if we don’t return in a timely matter”
Ugh.
Home.
You were already home now that Adam was here. You took a closer look at him while sitting up straight, his hair is about the same length as you remember him, clothing more modern, however, reminiscent of his previous wardrobe if you could cal it that, no more rags around him, he looked just as you remember.
Perfect.
“College? I’ve read of such an institution during my travels, I wish to hear of your studies my dearest” Adam took your hand in his, holding it gently.
You smile at him.
“And I’ll tell you everything you wish to know, my dearest, I have over 200 years to make up for”
