Across from you, Sae narrows his eyes slightly, holding your baby in his arms like this is a very serious competition. “She spends more time with me.” “She literally grew inside me.” “…That’s not the point.” “It is absolutely the point.”

Your daughter, completely unaware of the stakes, is just sitting there blinking at both of you like: what is wrong with these people.

This becomes a mission. Not a casual “oh, she’ll say something eventually.” No. A mission.

Sae, for the first time in his life, is putting genuine effort into something that isn’t soccer. “…Da,” he says, calm, precise. “Da-da.” Your daughter drools (Sae internally: is this rin). “Close enough,” you mumble. “It’s not,” he replies immediately. “She needs to enunciate.” “She is a baby.” “She can still learn.” You snort.

He tries everything. Repetition. Consistency. Eye contact. “…Dada,” he says again, tapping lightly near his chest. “Say ‘dada.’” She giggles. Not helpful.

Meanwhile, you? You’re not even trying that hard. You just casually hold her and go, “Mamaaa~” And she smiles. Sae watches. Judging. Calculating. “…You’re influencing her.” “Yeah,” you grin. “It’s called being loved.” “…I am loved.” “Then why isn’t she saying ‘dada’?” He goes quiet. You win that round.

Days pass. Then weeks. Still no clear first word. Just sounds. Babbling. Chaos. Sae remains determined.

“…Dada,” he repeats one afternoon, sitting cross-legged with her on the floor. “Dada.” She stares at him. Processing. This is it. He can feel it.

You’re watching from the couch, trying not to get your hopes up—but also very invested. “Dada,” he says again, softer this time. Your daughter opens her mouth. Sae leans in just slightly. You lean forward too. The room goes quiet. And then—“Luh…”

Sae freezes. “…Da,” he encourages carefully. “Lu…” Your eyes widen. Oh no. “Dada,” Sae tries again, just a little more urgent now. Your daughter smiles. “…Luh…” You clap a hand over your mouth. No way. No actual way.

“…wam.”

Silence. Complete. Utter. Silence. Your daughter beams, proud of herself. “Luhwahm!” You lose it. Absolutely lose it. You’re doubled over on the couch, laughing so hard you can’t breathe. “…No,” Sae says flatly. Your daughter, encouraged by your reaction, claps her tiny hands.

“Luhwahm! Luhwahm!”

“No.” “That’s her first word?!” you wheeze. “Sae, oh my—” “No.” He looks genuinely offended. Not angry. Offended. Like reality itself has wronged him. “She’s not saying that again.” “Luhwahm!” your daughter chirps happily.

You’re crying now. Actual tears. “She got it from you!” you manage between laughs. “I don’t say it that often.” You just stare at him. He pauses. “…That’s not the point.” “It is the point!”

He tries to fix it. Immediately. “No,” Sae says, serious again, turning back to her. “Dada.” She smiles. “Luhwahm!” “…Dada.” “Luhwahm!” “…No.” “Luhwahm!” You are not helping. At all. You’re still laughing. “This is your fault,” he mutters. “How is this my fault?!” “You encourage her.” “I didn’t teach her your insults!” He exhales sharply.

Your daughter grabs his sleeve, looking up at him with those big, bright eyes. “Luhwahm,” she says again, softer this time.

Like it’s something important. Sae goes still. Again. Always still with her. “…It’s not a bad word,” he mutters, almost to himself. You blink at him. “…Are you serious right now.” “She could’ve said something worse.” “Like what?!” He doesn’t answer. Because—fair.

Later that night, when she’s asleep—you find Sae sitting beside her crib, watching her. “…You’re still thinking about it, aren’t you,” you say quietly. “…It was supposed to be ‘dada.’”

There’s something so mildly bitter about the way he says it, you almost laugh again—but you hold it in this time.

“…Hey,” you nudge him gently. “It’s still her first word.” “…‘Lukewarm.’” You bite your lip. “…It’s kind of iconic.” He gives you a look. You shrug. “It suits her. She’s your kid.” “…That’s exactly the problem.” You grin, leaning your head on his shoulder. “…You know she’ll say ‘dada’ eventually.” “…She should’ve said it first.”

There’s a pause. Then—from the crib—a tiny, sleepy voice: “…Da…” Both of you freeze. Slowly, slowly, Sae looks over. Your daughter shifts slightly in her sleep.

“…Da…Luhwahm…”

Silence. You turn to him, biting your lips to hold back a laugh. He doesn’t say anything. But something in his expression softens—just a little.

“…See? She sorta said it…” you whisper. He exhales quietly. “…Close…enough.” But he doesn’t look away from her. Not even once.

Because internally he's laughing.

Not when you first walk into his apartment—no, you still greet him like usual, slipping off your shoes, setting your bag down, giving him that small smile that always makes something in his chest loosen.

It’s after. After he leans in to kiss your forehead like he always does, and you subtly turn your head so his lips brush your hair instead. That’s when he knows. Something’s off.

“Did something happen?” Sae asks, voice calm, watching you from the couch. You shake your head a little too quickly. “No.” A lie. A bad one.

Sae doesn’t push right away. He’s patient like that—observant, quiet, letting things unfold. But the way you avoid his eyes, the way you sit just a bit farther from him than usual… yeah. He notices everything. Especially when it comes to you. He exhales softly. “You’re acting strange.” “I’m not.” “You are.” You huff under your breath, crossing your arms. “I said I’m not.”

…Okay. Definitely something.

Sae tilts his head slightly, studying you like he’s trying to solve a puzzle. “Did I do something?” You hesitate. And that’s all the confirmation he needs. “…What did I do?” he asks again, softer this time.

Your lips press into a thin line. For a moment, it looks like you won’t answer—but then you mumble, barely audible: “At the fan meeting today.” Sae blinks. “What about it?” You finally look at him, eyes a little sharper now. “That girl.” “…What girl?” “The one who touched you.”

Sae actually has to think for a second—replaying the event in his mind—before it clicks. A fan, overly excited, grabbing onto his arm while talking to him. Security stepped in almost immediately.

It barely registered to him. But to you… clearly not. “…You’re upset about that?” he asks. “I’m not upset,” you mutter, looking away again. Sae raises an eyebrow. “You’re giving me the cold shoulder over it.” “I’m not—” “You are.”

You glare at him. “Well maybe I just didn’t like it, okay?” There it is. Sae watches you for a second, something unreadable flickering in his eyes. Then—unexpectedly—he shifts closer.

You immediately scoot an inch away. He pauses. Then moves closer again.

You try to move again—but this time, his hand gently catches your wrist. “…Sae.” “Stop running away,” he says simply. “I’m not running—” “You are.”

You click your tongue, but you don’t pull your hand away. Not really. Sae’s grip is warm. Firm, but not forceful—just enough to keep you there.

“…You didn’t like that someone touched me,” he says, more gently now. You look down, avoiding his gaze. “…Yeah.” It comes out quieter this time. Honest. Sae hums softly, thumb brushing over your wrist absentmindedly. “You know I didn’t want that, right?”

“I know,” you mumble. “…But still.” Still. He gets it. Sae shifts even closer until your knees are almost touching. You stiffen slightly, but you don’t move away this time.

“…You’re jealous,” he says. You immediately protest. “I am NOT—” “You are.” “I’m NOT!” Sae lets out the smallest sigh, like he’s humoring you. “You are.”

You open your mouth to argue again—but the words die in your throat when his free hand comes up, gently cupping your cheek. Oh. “…Sae?” “You’re the only one I let this close,” he says quietly.

Your breath catches.

His thumb brushes lightly against your cheek, slow and soft, like he’s trying to soothe something unspoken. “I didn’t even remember it happened until you mentioned it,” he continues. “That’s how little it mattered.” “…Oh.” Your voice is small now.

Sae leans in slightly, resting his forehead against yours. His voice drops softer—warmer. “But you?” he murmurs. “I notice everything.” Your heart does something stupid. Fast and fluttery and completely out of control.

“I notice when you avoid my kisses,” he adds, eyes half-lidded. “When you sit farther away. When you lie about being okay.” “…I didn’t lie,” you weakly argue. “You did.” “…Okay, maybe a little.”

Sae huffs—barely a laugh. Then, before you can overthink it again, he tilts your chin up just slightly and presses a soft kiss to your lips.

It’s gentle. Slow. Like he’s not in a rush at all. Like he’s making a point. You melt almost immediately. Of course you do.

When he pulls back, he doesn’t go far—just enough to look at you. “Still jealous?” he asks quietly. “…A little,” you admit. Sae hums.

Then, without warning, he pulls you into his lap. “Sae—?!” “You said a little,” he replies calmly, arms wrapping around your waist, holding you in place. “So I’ll fix it.”

Your face burns. “Fix it how?!” He rests his chin lightly on your shoulder, voice low against your ear. “By reminding you,” he says, “who I belong to.”

YOU SHORT-CIRCUIT. “SAE—?!”

He presses another soft kiss—this time to your cheek, then your temple, then right below your ear.

“I don’t like people touching me,” he murmurs. “You’re the exception.”

Your brain is GONE. Melted. Evaporated. “…You’re so unfair,” you whisper, hiding your face in his shoulder. Sae’s arms tighten slightly around you.

“Mm,” he hums. “But you like it.” You absolutely do.

You’re not jealous anymore. Not when he’s holding you like this. Not when he's all yours.

Dating ISAGI YOICHI is… interesting.

Because on one hand, he’s attentive, thoughtful, and remembers the smallest things about you. On the other hand—He overthinks. Badly.

It starts with a text. You’re out with your friends, laughing, talking, completely caught up in the moment when your phone buzzes.

Isagi: going to training now

You glance at it quickly, typing back without thinking too much.

You: k

And then you lock your phone and go right back to your conversation. Simple. Harmless. Right?

Meanwhile—Isagi stares at his phone like it just insulted him. “…k?” That’s it? Just… k? He blinks. Reads it again. “…k???” Something feels wrong. Very wrong.

Because usually you reply with things like: “okayyy good luck!!! 🫶 don’t overwork yourself!!” or “ooo do your best!!! text me afterrrr”

And then he’s gone.

Isagi just stands there. Watching. Confused. Concerned. “…Why are you laughing?” “You—YOU THOUGHT I WAS MAD BECAUSE I SAID K???” you wheeze. “…Yes???” “That’s it???”

“…That’s not normal for you!” he defends, slightly flustered now. “You always send longer messages! With emojis! And—energy!” “I WAS BUSY!” you laugh, wiping a tear. “I was literally in the middle of talking!”

“…Oh.” “…OH???” Isagi freezes. Everything clicks into place. You weren’t mad. You weren’t upset. You were just—Busy. He slowly sinks back onto the couch. “…I skipped training for this.”

You grin, walking over to him. “You WHAT???” “I thought you were mad,” he mutters, covering his face. “I couldn’t focus.” You plop down next to him, still giggling. “You’re actually insane.” “…I panicked.” “No kidding.” There’s a pause.

Then—“…You’re really not mad?” he asks again, quieter this time. Your expression softens immediately. “Hey,” you say gently, reaching for his hands. “I’m not mad. I promise.” He looks at you. Really looks. Searching. “…Promise?” “Promise, what's there to be mad about, anyways?” His shoulders finally relax. Just a little. “…Okay.”

So when he starts paying attention to you—people feel bad. “Good luck,” someone mutters under their breath. “Yeah… you’re gonna need it.” You just blink. “…Why?”

The answer comes fast. Too fast. “Yo.” You turn your head—and there he is. Blonde spiky hair, with pink tips. Sharp grin. Eyes that look like he’s constantly five seconds away from causing chaos.

“…Hi?” you say cautiously. He leans in way too close. “Damn,” he hums, looking you up and down without shame. “You always look this good, or am I just lucky today?” You tilt your head slightly. Then smile. “Why?” you reply sweetly. “You getting distracted already?”

There’s a pause. A beat. And then—His grin widens. Dangerously.

“Ohhh,” he laughs, low and delighted. “You talk back.” “Only when it’s worth it.” “Yeah?” he steps closer, clearly entertained now. “And I’m worth it?” You lean in just a little too. “Depends,” you murmur. “You gonna prove it?” Silence. Someone in the background chokes.

Because this—This is not how it usually goes. Usually people get flustered. Avoid him. Run away. Not… this. Not you.

And Shidou? Oh, he’s hooked.

From that day on—He doesn’t leave you alone. At all. “Miss me?” he grins, dropping beside you like he owns the place.

“You were gone for five minutes,” you reply, not even looking up from your phone. “Longest five minutes of my life.” “Sounds like a skill issue.” “Damn,” he laughs. “Cold.” “You’ll live.” “Not without you.”

You finally glance at him. “…You say that to everyone?” “Nah,” he leans closer, voice dropping just enough to make it interesting. “Only the ones I like.” You raise an eyebrow. “…So I’m special?” He smirks. “You’re starting to be.”

It escalates. Fast. Because neither of you backs down. “C’mere,” Shidou calls one day, patting his lap like it’s the most normal thing in the world. You glance at him. Then—without hesitation— you walk over and sit. The entire room goes SILENT. “…You’re insane,” someone whispers.

Shidou freezes for half a second. Then laughs, hands automatically settling on your waist. “See?” you shrug casually. “Not that hard.” “…You’re dangerous,” he mutters, eyes glinting. “Takes one to know one.” “Yeah?” “Yeah.” His grip tightens just a little. “…I like you.” You hum. “I figured.” “That’s it?” “What, you want a confession back?” “…Kinda.”

You lean in, just enough for your breath to brush his ear. “Earn it, demon.” (hetwitchedatthatbtw)

He goes feral after that. Not even joking. “You're mine, right?” he asks one day out of nowhere. You don’t even look up. “Depends.” “On what?” “How convincing you are.” He grins. “Oh, I can be real convincing.” “Talk is cheap.” “Then watch.”

But here’s the thing. Somewhere along the way—it stops being just flirting. Because Shidou starts noticing things. Like how you always wait for him after practice. How you laugh at his dumbest jokes. How you never seem scared of him. Not even a little. And that? That messes with him.

In a good way. A dangerous way.

One evening, it’s quieter than usual. Just the two of you. No audience. No reactions. No one watching. “Hey,” he says. You glance at him. “…Yeah?” “…You’re not just messing around, right?”

That—throws you off a little. “…What do you mean?” He looks at you, properly this time. No teasing. No grin. Just… him. “With me,” he says. “This whole thing. You’re not just playing along?”

You step closer. Close enough to see the shift in his expression. “…What if I am?” you ask softly. His jaw tightens. “…Then I’d still like you,” he admits. “But I’d hate it.” That makes your heart do something weird. “…Good thing I’m not,” you say.

He blinks. “…Yeah?” You nod. Then, without breaking eye contact—“Why do you think I match you like this?” He laughs. Not loud, nor chaotic. Just… real. “Damn,” breathes, stepping closer. “You’re actually serious.” “Shocking, right?” “Yeah,” he grins again—but it’s softer now. “Thought I was the only one crazy enough.”

You smirk. “Guess not.” There’s a pause. Then—“…C’mere.” You don’t hesitate this time. Not even a little. He pulls you in, hands firm on your waist, forehead nearly bumping yours. “…So what now?” you ask quietly. His grin turns sharp again. “Oh, now?” he murmurs. “…Now I don’t gotta hold back.” Your heart spikes. “Who said you were holding back?” “Me.” “Oh?” “Yeah.”

He leans in, voice dropping—“‘Cause if I wasn’t…” His lips brush just barely against yours. “…you’d already be mine.” Your breath catches. And instead of backing away—you grab his collar and pull him the rest of the way in. “Then stop talking,” you murmur.

And that’s all the permission he needs.

Somewhere in the distance—someone groans. “Great. There’s two of them now.”

Some were loud. Some were charming. Some were clearly media-trained to say the same five safe answers over and over again. But ITOSHI RIN? He was… a wall. A very pretty, very talented, very frustrating wall.

“Next question.” You blink, glancing down at your notes. “…You haven't answered the first one...” “I did answer.” “You said ‘no.’ thats all” Rin stares at you, completely unbothered. “That’s an answer.”

You inhale slowly through your nose. Stay professional. Stay calm. Do NOT throw your cue cards at him.

“…Right,” you say, forcing a smile that definitely looks a little strained. “Okay, let’s try something different. What motivates you before a match?” “Winning.” “…Anything more specific?” “No.”

You pause. He pauses.

The camera crew behind you is absolutely fighting for their lives not to laugh. You clear your throat. “Alright. What about your teammates? Anyone you—” “I don’t care about them.” You freeze. “…That’s—wow. That’s a statement.” “It’s the truth.” You stare at him. He stares back.

Expression blank. Voice flat. Completely immune to your existence. You lower your cue cards slightly. “…You’re really hard to interview, you know that?” “Then don’t.” OH. OH HE DID NOT—You straighten in your seat, eyes narrowing just a little.

ok fine. we'll play this damn game.

It becomes a thing after that. You request him. Every time. Your coworkers think you’re insane. “Why him?” one of them asks. “He barely gives you anything!” You just grin, a little too determined. “I’ll get something out of him eventually.” And you do try.

Week after week. Match after match. You switch tactics, friendly, serious, joking, even slightly passive-aggressive (you’re only human)

But Rin? Still. A. Wall.

“…You’re persistent,” he says once, mid-interview. You perk up immediately. “Oh? Is that a compliment?” “No.” “…You know, normal people would at least pretend to be nice.” “I’m not normal.” “Clearly.”

There’s the tiniest pause. You squint at him. “…Was that almost a reaction?” “No.” “…Rin.” “No.” You sigh dramatically. “One day, I’m going to get a real answer out of you.” “Don’t get your hopes up.” You grin. “Too late.”

It happens on a random day.

No big match. No huge crowd. Just a regular post-game interview. You’re a little more tired than usual—running on less sleep, your notes slightly messier, your energy just a bit softer.

“…Good game today,” you say, voice gentler. “That last goal was impressive.” Rin nods. “It was fine.” You huff quietly. “You scored from outside the box with three defenders on you.” “I’ve done better.” “…You’re impossible.” Silence.

Then, without thinking too much about it, you mumble—“…I still think you did really well.” It slips out. Not as an interviewer. Just… you. For a second, nothing happens. Then—“…You always say that.” You blink. “…What?”

Rin’s gaze flicks toward you briefly before settling somewhere just past the camera. “When I play well,” he says, quieter now. “You say it.” Your heart does a weird little flip. “…Well, yeah. Because it’s true.”

Another pause. Longer this time. “…Most reporters don’t,” he mutters. You tilt your head. “They don’t?” “They just ask questions.”

ohhh… wait what… OH. Something in your chest softens. “…I can stop, if it bothers you,” you say carefully. Rin’s head snaps toward you immediately. “It doesn’t.” That was fast. You blink.

He freezes—just slightly—like he didn’t mean to say it that quickly. “…Good,” you say softly, a small smile forming. “Because I wasn’t planning to.” There’s a beat.

And then—It happens. The smallest thing. So small anyone else might miss it. But you don’t. Rin’s lips twitch. Just barely. But it’s there.

A hint of a smile. You gasp. Actually gasp. “YOU SMILED.” “I didn’t.” “YOU DID.” “I didn’t.” “RIN—” “I didn’t,” he repeats, but there’s something off now—something less steady, less guarded.

You lean forward slightly, eyes sparkling. “Oh my god. I win.” “You didn’t win anything.” “I got a reaction out of you.” “That doesn’t count.” “It absolutely counts.”

Rin exhales sharply, looking away—but you can see it now. That faint softness that wasn’t there before. “…You’re annoying,” he mutters. You grin. “And you smiled.” “…I didn’t.” “You did.” “…Tch.”

Silence settles again—but it’s different now. Warmer. Lighter. You glance down at your notes, then back at him. “…Same time next week?” you ask, half-teasing.

Rin hesitates. Just for a second. “…Yeah,” he says. Your smile widens. And this time—He doesn’t look away fast enough to hide it.

From that day on? Your interviews with get… easier. Not by much. He’s still blunt. Still quiet. Still frustrating.

But now—He answers a little more. Looks at you a little longer.

And sometimes… Just sometimes—He smiles. Only for you.

It’s easy to believe. He’s in Spain, living the dream—top clubs, interviews, flashing cameras, headlines with his name written in bold. Every clip of him online shows the same damn thing, composed, distant, untouchable.

“Do you miss Japan?” a reporter asks once. Sae barely blinks. “Not particularly.” And that’s it. No hesitation. No softness. No cracks.

You watch it from your phone at 4 a.m., curled up in your bed, the glow of the screen reflecting in tired eyes. Not particularly. You laugh quietly to yourself. “…Yeah. Figures.”

Long distance isn’t easy. You knew that. You agreed to this.

Late-night calls that turn into early mornings. Messages that come hours late because of time zones. “I’ll call you later” turning into “sorry, I fell asleep.”

And Sae… he’s not the type to sugarcoat things. “I’m busy,” he says. “I know.” “I won’t always be able to reply.” “I know.” “…Don’t wait up.” You hesitate. “…Okay.” But you do anyway.

Still, you try. You really do. You send him pictures of your day. Little updates. Dumb jokes. Things you know he won’t react much to—but you send them anyway.

Sometimes he replies with a short “yeah” or “ok.” Sometimes just a thumbs up. Sometimes… nothing. And you tell yourself it’s fine. Because that’s just how he is. Right?

Meanwhile, in Spain—Sae stares at his phone longer than he should. Your messages sit there, stacked one after another. A picture of your lunch. A blurry sunset. A random complaint about your day. His thumb hovers over the screen. He types something. Deletes it. Types again. Deletes it.

It’s not that he doesn’t want to reply. It’s that he doesn’t know how to say everything without it sounding… wrong.

Because if he starts—if he lets even a little of it slip—he won’t be able to stop. And he can’t afford that. Not here. Not now. So instead, he locks his phone. And pretends it doesn’t bother him.

But it does. More than anything. He notices it first in the small things. How quiet his apartment feels at night. How his hand reaches for his phone after every match—not for social media, not for updates—For you.

How your voice sounds slightly more tired every time you call. “…You sound exhausted,” you say once. “I’m fine.” “…You always say that.” He doesn’t respond. Because he knows you’re right.

Then one night—“…Sae,” you say softly over the phone. He hums in response, lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. “…Do you ever miss me?” The question is quiet. Careful. Like you’re scared of the answer.

Sae’s chest tightens. “…What kind of question is that?” “A normal one.” “…We talk every day.” “That’s not what I asked.” Silence. He should answer. He knows he should. But the words sit heavy in his throat. Because “I miss you” isn’t enough.

Not when what he feels is closer to, I can’t sleep without thinking about you. I replay your voice in my head just to feel something. I want to drop everything and come back.

So instead—“…You’re overthinking.” The line goes quiet. “…Yeah,” you say after a moment. But your voice sounds smaller. And Sae hates it.

That’s when he realizes. Your patience is thinning. Not dramatically, Not loudly. But slowly. Like a thread being pulled, little by little. And Sae isn’t stupid. He sees it. He feels it.

And he knows—If he keeps going like this… He’s going to lose you.

So he makes a decision.

You don’t expect anything that day. It’s just another normal afternoon. Another routine. Another attempt to not think too much. Until—knock knock You frown, glancing toward the door. “…Huh?” You weren’t expecting anyone. Slowly, you walk over, pulling the door open—And freeze.

Because standing there—slightly disheveled, travel-worn, hair a mess from the flight—is your Itoshi Sae.

For a second, your brain doesn’t process it. “…Sae?” He exhales your name like he’s been holding it in for weeks. And then—he steps forward. And pulls you into him. Hard.

You stumble slightly, caught off guard as his arms wrap around you, tight—too tight—like he’s afraid you’ll disappear if he loosens his grip. “Sae—?! What—what are you doing here—” “I missed you.” The words come out rough. Immediate. No hesitation this time. Your heart stops. “…What?” “I missed you,” he repeats, burying his face into your shoulder, grip tightening. “A lot.”

Your hands hover awkwardly in the air for a second before slowly settling against his back. “…You said you didn’t,” you whisper. “I lied.” That—he admits easily. Too easily.

You pull back slightly, trying to look at him—but he doesn’t let you go far. One hand comes up, pressing you back against him, like even a few inches is too much distance.

“Sae…” “I hate it there without you,” he mutters. “Everything feels… off.” Your chest aches. “Then why didn’t you say anything?” you ask softly. “…I didn’t know how.” Typical. You let out a small, shaky laugh. “…You’re unbelievable.” “I know.” He doesn’t even deny it.

Instead, his hand slides up to your cheek, holding it there, thumb brushing against your skin like he’s memorizing it. “…Are you mad?” he asks quietly. You hesitate. “…A little.” “Yeah.” “I thought… maybe you didn’t need me as much as I needed you.” Sae’s expression tightens immediately. “That’s not true.” “But it felt like it.”

“I was wrong,” he says, voice low. “I thought if I ignored it, it would go away.” “…And?” “It didn’t.” If anything—it got worse. Much worse.

His grip on you tightens again, pulling you closer until there’s no space left between you. “I couldn’t sleep,” he admits. “Couldn’t focus. Everything reminded me of you.” Your breath catches. “I kept thinking…” his voice drops slightly, “…what if you get tired of waiting?”

Your heart aches. “…Sae.” “So I came back.” Just like that. Like it was the simplest decision in the world. Because to him—it was. “You said not to wait,” you murmur. “I know.” “And I did anyway.” “…I know.” There’s a pause.

Then—“…Don’t do that anymore,” he says softly. You blink. “What?” “Waiting like that,” he murmurs, resting his forehead against yours. “It makes me feel like I’m not doing enough.” “…Then do more.” “I am.”

He leans in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against your lips. It’s different from before. Less controlled. More… desperate. Like he’s been holding back for far too long.

When he pulls back, he doesn’t go far—his hand still cupping your face, thumb brushing your cheek. “I’ll come back,” he says quietly. “As many times as it takes.” Your eyes soften. “…You don’t have to—” “I want to.”

No hesitation. No distance. Just truth.

“…I miss you too,” you admit, voice small. Sae exhales softly, like that’s all he needed to hear. Then—he pulls you into him again. Even closer than before. If that’s even possible. “Sae, I can’t breathe—” “Stay like this.” “…You’re crushing me.” “Good.”

You laugh despite yourself, arms wrapping around him fully now. “…You’re so clingy all of a sudden.” “I’ve always been,” he mutters. “You just weren’t there to see it.” That makes your heart flip.

And then—his face presses into the crook of your neck, his voice quieter now. Softer. “…Don’t go anywhere.” “I’m not.” “Good.” A pause.

Then, almost like he can’t help himself—“…Can I stay like this a little longer?” Your grip tightens around him. “…As long as you want.”

And for once—doesn’t let go. Not even a little.
