The Lost City of Amdapor
Rava and Veena
At the risk of throwing gasoline into this trash fire, here are some opinions on Viera.
Au Ra were really well written. The Xaela more so than the Raen but they probably have the best lore of any race thus far. Miqo'te, Roegadyn, and Hyur are similar. What do they have in common? The clans have DIFFERENT CULTURAL IDENTITIES that seperate them.
What do Viera have?
ONE CLAN IS DARKER SKINNED THAN THE OTHER and they live in vaguely different places.
This is lazy worldbuilding. The Rava and Veena donât have different identities, literally nothing from their splash text denotes them as distinct clans. You know what would be cool? Veena as alpine hunters. Thicker fur on their ears or smaller ears in general because itâs cold near the mountains. You know SOMETHING that would give people some sort of hint as to how they lived.
But once again, SE leaves it the the fans to write their own lore and fill in the gaps.
So! Send me your Rava and Veena headcanons!
In fairness most Au Ra lore didnât come until much later after their announcement (Iâm talking, like, Stormblood release much later for most of it). The devs havenât even polished up the character models and finished the cc options yet so Iâm guessing they have more pressing priorities than rolling out naming conventions and lore info for the public. If people wanna have fun with headcanons thatâs totally fine but Iâd advise some patience.
I would also strongly advocate calm. It is a little too soon to get upset and construct headcanons. Remember that at the start before HW this is literally all we knew about the au ra:
All the detail on Raen culture and Xaela clans came later with the release of naming conventions.
Wait for Viera and Hrothgar naming conventions first before you jump the gun or get peeved with the devs over lack of lore.
Much as I love the sexy belly Dancer characters, pls consider the Songbirds. I wanna see some extra af pop star Dancers.
Elegant Ballet Dancers too.
Or maybe even Ballroom Dancers.
Dance is so varied and a perfect opportunity to get creative!
Crown Prince Zenos plays âBed Wed Beheadâ
Unlucky Officer: âNo my lord, you arenât allowed to say âWarrior of Lightâ for all three, you need to have three different people.â
Zenos: âThe hell I canât.â
this made me cackle in a restaurant. Well played.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Tokyo Fanfest Trailer
So they just said that its in lore for Au raâs to rub their horns together to show affection.Â
Part of me is like: Aww thats so cute!
The other part is like: Wont they just hear SCREECHSREECHSKRATCHSCRATCHS-
I FEEL SO VALIDATED RIGHT NOW I HAVE BEEN HEADCANONING THIS SINCE THEY RELEASED THAT RACE
Hey uh, when I say âthis is looking worse and worseâ i mean for the dev team being strung out thin and mistreaded by square enix, not for us the players. Please take just a second to realize real people work on this game and crunch in the industry is often harmful to those working in it.
YâŚYEAHâŚI feel likeâŚthe general impression Iâve been getting from the last few fanfests are that the dev team are extremely stressed out about being able to get everything finished on time. Theyâre in crunch time, but I donât have the same sense of it I had before Stormbloodâs launch. There is a lot that theyâve been saddled with doing, and itâŚseems like itâs too much.
This ^^^^. Iâve had the same exact impressions since all the announcements started.
Having worked briefly in gaming with friends in various gaming companies. I can safely say that I never really want to work in that entire industry ever again, because youâre paid total garbage, work long hours with crunch time, and your passion for games and wanting to make good games is very much exploited.
And thatâs in America. I can only imagine itâs infinitely worse in Japan where they already have an insanely unhealthy work-life culture.
After hearing about the headgear thing, I honestly believe the dev team had far too much on their plate.
New zones & story with supposedly more dungeons at launch than SB
2 new races
3 new classes, 1 new to final fantasy, 1 with unique design and mechanics released early
New skills for all existing classes + DRK AND MCH reworks Iâm told
New customization options
how many sets of new gear?
prep for 8 & 24 man raids, side quests, events
and more.
Now they did all this while continuing to roll out patch content in 2 years. Imagine how much missed time with friends and family outside of work they all have, how much time they spent with them still having to think on how to make the next step work.
By all Iâve seen this is a huge expansion compared to prior ones.
Iâm not saying donât feel what youâre feeling, just donât take it out on the dev team, they had to try and do a LOT in 2 years and with corporate likely telling them to cut costs so they can milk as much money as they can from the players and game.
