Mason had spent most of the afternoon exploring. His days outside of the ocean usually consisted of seeing what he could do with his legs and that day was no different. Heâd run all around the beach, grinning wildly as the wind whipped against his face until he was too tired to continue. Next, Mason had sold off some beautiful seashells heâd dug up from the ocean. The prettiest ones were deep down at the bottom of the sea, where no humans would dare to go. Most were willing to pay a pretty penny for the ones that were especially shiny.Â
He decided heâd visit a cafe nearby to get himself something to eat, not having realized how hungry he was during his dart around the beach. He bounced on his bare feet as he waited in line and then spent some of his money on a variety of sugary snacks to fill him up. Once he retrieved the items, he looked around, frowning when he didnât spot an empty chair. He was prepared to look around outside until he heard someone speak up, immediately making him grin. âReally? Thank you so much!â he replied enthusiastically, darting over to sit in the chair across from her. âYou want some of myââ he paused, staring at the apple fritter in his hand. âWhatever this thingy is called,â he offered, the grin returning to his face as he held up the item.
Smiling was what nice people did, right? She curved her lips up and tried to not seem too off put by him. Why sheâd let out a random act of kindness letting a stranger sit with her, Katya wasnât sure. Maybe motherhood, or more accurately motherhood to be, was softening her on some level. Tilting her head, she looked on at the boy curiously and shook her head.â No, No, Iâm fine with my own drink, thank you. I appreciate the offer though.âHe seemed sweet, nice enough, and she tried not to find it overwhelming.
âYou seem unused to this.â She tilted her chin out to the crowded environment before reaching for her cup and taking a long sip. âNot good in crowds?â
