I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to respectfully enquire if it would be possible to request a change in partners for the final project.
While I understand that the pairings were assigned at random, I am concerned that my assigned partner, Yoon Jeonghan, and I may not be able to work together effectively.
To be completely transparent, I find him rather difficult to work with. I strongly believe we would both benefit from being assigned different partners.

Y/N was never once late to our meetings. In fact, she was always annoyingly punctual and raised hell over me being late by a few minutes. Regardless, Y/N showed incredible discipline and never failed to show up to our meetings to discuss the project, even if she was half dead from the sleepless nights.
Contribution — 10/10
Y/N contributed equally to every stage of the project, if not the most towards the project. The success of this project is mostly owed to her, her sleepless nights and early mornings editing as well as revising the document and slides to ensure absolute perfection. Although, she refused to admit how my edits occasionally improved her work.

Y/N responds to messages regarding the project inhumanely fast for someone who always has her head down in stacks of paper in her favourite spot in the library, specifically the seat next to the window that faces east. She had no issues stating her problems with my research, being firm in her opinions and communicating her concerns in a professional manner. As a result, our project quality had improved dramatically after I (begrudgingly) followed her feedback (though I’d never admit it to her face).
Work ethic — 10/10
Y/N has a work ethic like no other. While I admit that I was annoyed by her constant fixation on the minor details at first, I found myself growing to appreciate her attention to the details that many others, myself included, would glance over. I’ve grown to learn and admire Y/N for she doesn’t leave anything half done. She does everything with 100%, and it clearly shows in the project where everything had been carefully vetted, arranged and presented. I used to think rivalry meant proving I was better than her, but somewhere along the project and spending hours with her, I realised I had stopped trying to outdo her and started trying to become someone who could keep up with her instead.

If I were to be very honest, there’s not much for Y/N to improve in. She’s somehow both an amazing student, friend and person all at once. Not many can say that, myself included. Many of our batch mates are quick to compare us, but I truly don’t believe I’m even remotely close enough to be compared with her. I’m truly grateful and honoured to have had her as my partner and my rival these past semesters. (Though, she wouldn’t die if she stopped assuming I was only trying to annoy her all the time.)

I never minded being paired with you. Actually, that’s a lie, because I was relieved.
Truthfully, I spent most of first year trying to find reasons to talk to you. At the time, I was nowhere near your circle. I’m sure you don’t remember, but I had painfully tried to talk to you about your day while Professor Min was talking, and you had hushed me almost immediately in annoyance to focus on the lecture. I was taken aback, but had kept my mouth shut for the remainder of the class. From that day, I kept a respectable distance from you thinking that you had hated my guts— only to realise that you hadn’t even remembered me at all.
I was quite hurt, to be honest. However, the distance allowed me to realise how you drifted towards people like Wonwoo, Jihoon and Junhui. The type of students you could study with or rather the type of students you could compete against (though honestly I’m unsure where Soonyoung fits into that group of yours). It was then I realised that perhaps competing with you would’ve been the easiest excuse to talk to you.
Turns out, arguing with you over stupid things like answer schemes and grades was a terrible strategy, because somewhere between getting paired for the project, rewriting your introductions just to spite you, fighting over your unnecessary Oxford commas, and staying in the library until midnight together when everyone else was at frat parties… I forgot we were supposed to be rivals.
The project’s over now. Soon enough, our semester’s going to be over too. Eventually, we never have to see each other in this class again, and I won’t really have an academic excuse to keep texting you anymore, so I guess I’ll need to be honest instead.
I’ve been in love with you for a while now.
Not because you got along with me in the end, or because we ended up working really well together. I’ve been in love with you long before Professor Min decided we’d make good partners (for the project). The project just gave me more time with you than I ever thought I’d get, and it gave me more to fall in love with.

“Y/NNNN" Jeonghan drags the last syllable, voice getting closer and closer. You hum in response; eyes focused on the soup.
You hear another "What're you doing?" as he comes up behind you at the counter, asking you the question despite looking at your hand stirring the pot on the stove.
"Dancing" you say in the most deadpan voice you can muster, and he smiles at the joke.
"Lame", he says, but his lips betray him.
When he sees that you don't turn to him, he taps you on the side of your hip twice and says, "Let me know when you're done dancing"
You mumble "I will" in a small voice as you turn, but he’s is already gone. You shake your head, but you can't fully shake the smile off your face.
It's raining when you join him at the balcony and it seems Jeonghan anticipated the weather and has brought blankets and cushions, along with the tiny table that you use to play Uno.
You place his mug of soup in front of him first, then carefully place yours on the table.
He curls his fingers around the mug and takes a sip, letting out a satisfied sigh.
"Mugs?" He asks, and you reply with a "No clean plates". He agrees with a nod and goes back to sipping, the rain slowly dwindling to a drizzle. He also adjusts the blanket so it doesn't slip off your shoulder, and rests his head over it.
You can't think of anything else or anywhere else that would be better than this. You can't think at all, when you could focus instead on soft lines of his face, the slope of his nose, eyelashes on each of his eyes, all of him so, so pretty.
His chuckles jar you out of your reverie, and you blink.
"Drink up sleepyhead, we can sleep later" you lift the mug to finish the rest of the soup in one go, the cup settling with a clink! on the table.
"I'm not sleepy" you say, and yawn exactly after you finish it. At this, Jeonghan also lets out a yawn, and the both of you giggle at your predicament.
"Aigoo, it's a a holiday, and we didn't do anything.." he goes as you lean down to rest on him now, as your eyes follow each other. But the both of you make no move to get up to do anything else, content to stay in each other's arms.
The rain has completely stopped now, and the scent of petrichor fills the air, along with a slight chill.
"Hannie, I'm cold" you whine, and he looks at you. Your hair has escaped the careful up-do you had secured it in this morning, and now you look a little bit funny. But he doesn't dare laugh, because he knows you will mess up his hair just to get even, and he spent ages trying to get his hair untangled.
Carefully tucking in the hair at side of your face, he smooths down your hair that's become unruly, hands gently running through the strands, and adjusts the blanket first.
Then he gathers your hair up into a ponytail, and carefully so as to not hurt you in the slightest, takes out the hair tie from his own tied up hair and ties yours.
Your hands come up to check the sides as he tightens it with a "done!"
You press a kiss to the back of his hand in thanks, and he lets you.
A unanimous decision is made to move inside where it's warmer in, so the both of you drag the blanket, draped on him like a cape, and the table, as you deposit the dirty mugs in the sink to wash later.
You think he'll come over to the bed room right away, but you know he won't be okay until the dishes are done.
Soon enough, you hear the tap running, and your lips quirk up at the sound.
You manage to make the bed and arrange all the cushions just as Jeonghan enters the bedroom, still with the blanket cape and jumps in right away, pulling you with him.
You drop down with a yelp as you fall on him, then roll over to your side, head still on his chest. For several seconds, everything is quiet. Then you hear the quiet call of a bird somewhere, cooing melodically. You think it resembles your heart.
You shift your head so you can hear his heart clearly; it goes lub-dub, lub-dub, lub-dub. Constant, like a stream of water in the mountains. Your own personal oasis.
The next words burst out, just like a song out of a nightingale, instinctual but no less sincere. You were helpless against the wave of affection that caught you in its current when he was around. You know that now.
"I love you Hannie" you say, and he looks at you, surprised.
The words weren't uncommon between the two of you, but you weren't usually vocal about it. He knew you loved him, and that he loved you.
But you figure good things should be said all the time, and anytime spent with Jeonghan is a good time.
"Love you too, angel" he says in reply, and follows it up with a chuckle.
"Hey! You should've said it without laughing" you gently admonish him with a light slap on his arm, but fondness bleeds into your tone, into this moment too precious to admit.
He can't stop laughing now, a fit of giggles racking his entire body and now you’re laughing too, but you can't take your eyes off him.
Even as the laughter dies down, the smiles on your faces remain, like they were drawn on by a child's sure hand. Laughter in rainy evenings, laying down in sheets printed with strawberries. He smells like you and you smell like him.
He remembers those lines you'd read to him the other day, something about one asking the other to tell them that they loved them. You'd read the last line as it being the sweetest arrangement, and now, he agrees.

The sky is rumbling with streaks of thunder by the time both of you reach your house. It had started unassumingly, one drop, another, and then before you knew it, the both of you were drenched head to toe. Only Jeonghan and you were working on campus still, and by the time he'd been walking you back home, it was already late in the evening.
Turning your key in your lock, you push open the door as Jeonghan shivers, body trembling with the cold. You immediately dump your bags onto the carpet, and motion to him with a 'Wait here' gesture as you go in to turn on the heater as you pick up a few towels. When you return, you find that he's still at your doorstep, so you give him a weak glare and drag him in.
"Angel, If you want to hold my hand, just say so. Don't be violent" he says, hand brushing back his wet hair when both of you are safe under a roof, and you have the urge to smack him. Deciding to play nice, since you were the host, you shove him into the bathroom with a "I'll get you some clothes you can fit in" and shut the door. As you pick up your stuff and begin wringing the water out at the sink, you hear his muffled complaints. Smiling, you take out all your stuff and go to get changed.
Half an hour and one warm shower later, both of you sit down on the floor, slurping down hot ramen. There are no words exchanged, only the sounds of chopsticks clinking and occasional "Oww" as one of you burns your mouth with the steaming noodles, and the other resorts with a mumbled "Careful".
Satisfied, you take your bowls and dump them into the sink for later, when Jeonghan rolls up his sleeves and begins washing.
"Oh come on, I'll do it later" you try to dissuade him, but he's stubborn as ever, and only steers you to the kitchen stool and plops you down. You give up, and assign yourself the task of admiring him, against the backdrop of your black cabinets and red pans hung up, like a star in the galaxy of your tiny kitchen, a metaphor you come up with so quickly, you would've second-guessed your affection for him if you weren't already together.
When he realizes you're staring, he sends you a cheeky smile and a horrible attempt at a sleazy wink and you burst out laughing.
"Just finish the dishes you dork" you quip, squeezing his shoulder and moving past him to take out a plate.
"Hey, no more plates. I forbid you from taking any more" he says, and you hit back with a "No one asked you to do all the dishes mister" but he stops you by physically standing in front of those cabinets.
Dammit, he was tall. Damn him and his height. What did he have to be so tall along with being so handsome? To ruin your life?
You resort to tickling him, but he starts tickling you back with his wet hands and it has somehow developed into him chasing you across the apartment. You're pretty sure the neighbours might complain with how loud you're screaming, but you don't care.
When both of you (Jeonghan) finally finish doing the dishes and stop being gremlins, you race to the couch and land on it heavily, letting out an "Oof".
Jeonghan, the menace that he is, lifts a leg and drapes it on you. You push it down without even opening your eyes. He puts it up again, undeterred. You push it down again. When he puts it up for the third time, you push his down with far more force than necessary when dealing with him and drape your legs on him instead. He hums content, doesn't even protest. Of course, he probably got you exactly where we wanted you. You huff. Little devil.
Still you can't help but soften when he begins rubbing your legs, the movement comforting. You follow his hands through lidded eyes, already feeling sleepy. His hands, go up and down, and before you know it, you're dozing off. You shift and place your head on his shoulder and he chuckles, breaking the silence in the apartment.
Around you, the city has gone quiet after the rain stopped. Only the kitchen light stays, warm lights spilling over your bone-tired souls, held up only by each other.
"Bed?" he asks, and you hum. He understands, like he always does, and gently gets your legs off his lap to stand up. When he finishes stretching, he pulls you up and you land on his shoulder again.
"Won't carry me?" you ask, voice warbled from sleep, and Jeonghan can't help but find you adorable, half-lidded gaze and all.
"Of course" he claims, and goes to lift you up when you back away laughing. You would've loved for him to carry you to the bedroom if not for the fact you knew if he did, both of you would just come tumbling down on the floor. He now uses that tactic whenever he wants to scare you, or snap you out of your disoriented haze whenever you're zoning out.
Dully glowing neon stars greet you on the side of your wall as you enter the bedroom. When he asked you why once, you'd said "I can touch the stars this way." He'd mumbled a joke after, but sometimes that's what he pencils in his diary when he asks himself why he wants to be near you all the time.
Your desk, cluttered as always, is piled with notebooks and papers. He just looks at it and you defend it with "I know, I know. I keep meaning to clean it, but I'm so tired."
He just brushes strands away from your face, "Let's do it together tomorrow, hmm?" you nod, and plop down on the bed. As he brings out the covers and fluffs them so they're warm and toasty, you keep peering at him in the yellow light.
For a faint moment, you think about all the people who could've witnessed the Jeonghan in front of you, about the many who could've written about him better, painted him and immortalized him for centuries to come with their brilliance, but they couldn't. He chose you, and that feels like a quiet victory you didn't know you wanted. You have him now, for everything it's worth.
"Hannie"
"Yes, angel?"
"Stay with me, 'kay?"
He smiles, a wry smile different from all the smiles he's given you this evening. "Just this night or is there a number?" he jokes, as he pulls himself up to slide under the covers with you.
You turn to him, gaze serious, "Every night. As long as there are nights in the world and there's a morning after."
He turns to you now, pulling you into his chest as he leaves a gentle kiss against your forehead.

"Bed?" he asks, and you hum. He understands, like he always does, and gently gets your legs off his lap to stand up. When he finishes stretching, he pulls you up and you land on his shoulder again.
"Won't carry me?" you ask, voice warbled from sleep, and Jeonghan can't help but find you adorable, half-lidded gaze and all.
"Of course" he claims, and goes to lift you up when you back away laughing. You would've loved for him to carry you to the bedroom if not for the fact you knew if he did, both of you would just come tumbling down on the floor. He now uses that tactic whenever he wants to scare you, or snap you out of your disoriented haze whenever you're zoning out.
Dully glowing neon stars greet you on the side of your wall as you enter the bedroom. When he asked you why once, you'd said "I can touch the stars this way." He'd mumbled a joke after, but sometimes that's what he pencils in his diary when he asks himself why he wants to be near you all the time.
Your desk, cluttered as always, is piled with notebooks and papers. He just looks at it and you defend it with "I know, I know. I keep meaning to clean it, but I'm so tired."
He just brushes strands away from your face, "Let's do it together tomorrow, hmm?" you nod, and plop down on the bed. As he brings out the covers and fluffs them so they're warm and toasty, you keep peering at him in the yellow light.
For a faint moment, you think about all the people who could've witnessed the Jeonghan in front of you, about the many who could've written about him better, painted him and immortalized him for centuries to come with their brilliance, but they couldn't. He chose you, and that feels like a quiet victory you didn't know you wanted. You have him now, for everything it's worth.
"Hannie"
"Yes, angel?"
"Stay with me, 'kay?"
He smiles, a wry smile different from all the smiles he's given you this evening. "Just this night or is there a number?" he jokes, as he pulls himself up to slide under the covers with you.
You turn to him, gaze serious, "Every night. As long as there are nights in the world and there's a morning after."
He turns to you now, pulling you into his chest as he leaves a gentle kiss against your forehead.

the one in which Jeonghan stays over and you want him forever and ever

The sky is rumbling with streaks of thunder by the time both of you reach your house. It had started unassumingly, one drop, another, and then before you knew it, the both of you were drenched head to toe. Only Jeonghan and you were working on campus still, and by the time he'd been walking you back home, it was already late in the evening.
Turning your key in your lock, you push open the door as Jeonghan shivers, body trembling with the cold. You immediately dump your bags onto the carpet, and motion to him with a 'Wait here' gesture as you go in to turn on the heater as you pick up a few towels. When you return, you find that he's still at your doorstep, so you give him a weak glare and drag him in.
"Angel, If you want to hold my hand, just say so. Don't be violent" he says, hand brushing back his wet hair when both of you are safe under a roof, and you have the urge to smack him. Deciding to play nice, since you were the host, you shove him into the bathroom with a "I'll get you some clothes you can fit in" and shut the door. As you pick up your stuff and begin wringing the water out at the sink, you hear his muffled complaints. Smiling, you take out all your stuff and go to get changed.
Half an hour and one warm shower later, both of you sit down on the floor, slurping down hot ramen. There are no words exchanged, only the sounds of chopsticks clinking and occasional "Oww" as one of you burns your mouth with the steaming noodles, and the other resorts with a mumbled "Careful".
Satisfied, you take your bowls and dump them into the sink for later, when Jeonghan rolls up his sleeves and begins washing.
"Oh come on, I'll do it later" you try to dissuade him, but he's stubborn as ever, and only steers you to the kitchen stool and plops you down. You give up, and assign yourself the task of admiring him, against the backdrop of your black cabinets and red pans hung up, like a star in the galaxy of your tiny kitchen, a metaphor you come up with so quickly, you would've second-guessed your affection for him if you weren't already together.
When he realizes you're staring, he sends you a cheeky smile and a horrible attempt at a sleazy wink and you burst out laughing.
"Just finish the dishes you dork" you quip, squeezing his shoulder and moving past him to take out a plate.
"Hey, no more plates. I forbid you from taking any more" he says, and you hit back with a "No one asked you to do all the dishes mister" but he stops you by physically standing in front of those cabinets.
Dammit, he was tall. Damn him and his height. What did he have to be so tall along with being so handsome? To ruin your life?
You resort to tickling him, but he starts tickling you back with his wet hands and it has somehow developed into him chasing you across the apartment. You're pretty sure the neighbours might complain with how loud you're screaming, but you don't care.
When both of you (Jeonghan) finally finish doing the dishes and stop being gremlins, you race to the couch and land on it heavily, letting out an "Oof".
Jeonghan, the menace that he is, lifts a leg and drapes it on you. You push it down without even opening your eyes. He puts it up again, undeterred. You push it down again. When he puts it up for the third time, you push his down with far more force than necessary when dealing with him and drape your legs on him instead. He hums content, doesn't even protest. Of course, he probably got you exactly where we wanted you. You huff. Little devil.
Still you can't help but soften when he begins rubbing your legs, the movement comforting. You follow his hands through lidded eyes, already feeling sleepy. His hands, go up and down, and before you know it, you're dozing off. You shift and place your head on his shoulder and he chuckles, breaking the silence in the apartment.
