Darth Vader is a Whiny Bitch… And it Rocks
One of the main issues that viewers have with the Star Wars prequels is the depiction of Anakin as an arrogant, whiny, obsessive cry-baby. They say, “Where is the calm foreboding of Darth Vader? Where is the Jedi of legend? Who the hell is this kid and why should I care what happens to him.” I, on the other hand, disagree. Whilst not being perfect I love how Anakin is portrayed and here is why.
His faults make him human
We all have flaws and it is seeing our flaws in characters such as Anakin that make them relatable. Anakin is a teenage boy so he acts like one. Someone that is never scared, never vulnerable and always effortlessly cool may sound good but they’re not real. And furthermore with having no father figure, being taken from your home, banned from your emotions, your mother being murdered, the pressure of being the chosen one and the belief that the person you love most is about to die, wouldn’t who be whingey to.

Who can honestly say that the Vader of the originals isn’t as whiney and arrogant as he is the prequels. Force choking people when things don’t go your way; sounds like a temper tantrum to me. And saying things like “*I* am the master” and “You are beaten. It is useless to resist”, how is that not arrogant.
Whininess must be genetic. In a New Hope and at least part of Empire Luke is just as, if not more whiny than his father. “But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some poowweer converters!” The difference is Luke managed to overcome these qualities by letting go of his fear and anger – (a direct cause of whinging) whereas Anakin didn’t. His inability to let things go led him to the dark side (Waa, Waa, the Jedi are so mean. My life sucks. Everyone I love dies) and then keeps him there. It is only when he lets go that he can finally join his son in the light.
I love that Anakin/ Vader is whiny, arrogant, overly emotional and obsessive as well as being brave loyal, passionate and badass (not to mention smokin’ hot) personally I can’t imagine him as being anything else.
