Somehow he's a registered voter now. Called the county clerk. Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty. Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons? Me: Yes, but he's a cat. Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county? Me: He's a legal cat. Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption. Me: He can't file anything. He has paws. Clerk: You can file on his behalf. Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat." Clerk: (pause) Check "unable to serve due to medical reasons." Me: What's the medical reason? Clerk: He's a cat. Me: That's not a medical condition. Clerk: It is if it prevents him from serving. Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later. "Insufficient documentation. Please provide medical professional's statement." Took the letter to my vet. Me: I need you to write that my cat can't do jury duty. Vet: Why is your cat summoned for jury duty? Me: Excellent question. No good answer. Vet: This is the weirdest request I've gotten. Me: Can you just write that he's medically unfit to serve? Vet: On what grounds? Me: He's a cat. Vet: (started typing) "Patient is unable to serve due to species-related limitations including inability to speak, read, or comprehend legal proceedings." Me: Perfect. Sent it in. Got another rejection. "Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court." My roommate thought this was hilarious. Roommate: Felix is going to jail. Me: This is serious. Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens. Decided that was actually the only option left. Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters. Checked in at the courthouse. Clerk: Name? Me: Felix Martinez. Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix? Me: Yes. Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat. Me: I've been saying that for six weeks. Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption? Me: I filed three. All rejected. Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation? Me: Twice. Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this. Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me. Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote? Me: You tell me. Supervisor: This is a data error. Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out. They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience. Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry. Me: Appreciate it. Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted? Me: Probably whatever party supports universal treats. Got a formal apology letter a week later and a voter registration card. For me this time. Apparently I wasn't registered, but my cat was. Roommate: Felix committed voter fraud. Me: Felix committed nothing. He's innocent. Roommate: That's what they all say. Felix is sleeping on the jury summons now. Regarding your (extremely valid) criticism of Tobias being Elfangor's son, I will say that I felt extremely big-brained when I read Andalite Chronicles, because when I was but a young Griff back in 1996 reading #1 cover to cover constantly for months, I latched onto the one line of "He [Tobias] never knew who his father was and his mother decided to leave him a few years back" and thought "Wait, is Elfangor Tobias's father somehow?!"

Ah yeah, I can feel that! It is super cool the first time as a kid that you realize you know where a book is foreshadowing it's going to go. I remember how delicious dramatic irony was when I first figured out the end of the first Boxcar Children before the kids did. So like, mad respect to Andalite Chronicles for pulling that one off.

And I get the argument that it's less about Tobias than it is about Elfangor, and about justifying his decision to have the kids morph. But I still wish the series had found a different way to do it.

He works a desk job managing supplies for the military. No, it's not glamorous or exciting, but it's crucial to the war effort. Do you realize how long these supply trains have to run for? How much they contain? We're talking about interstellar travel. So many things have to run so perfectly, it makes clockwork look like child's play. If it wasn't for him and his work, the yeerks would have taken half the galaxy by now! But does he get any recognition for it? Noooooo, the only time anyone spares him a second glance is when they mistake him for that lunatic war-prince who went nothlit and married an alien.

I am on my knees begging everyone to please vote Ekko. At least get him to tie with Stanford please! Please!!

-Growing up in a poor area, he never had any formal training/schooling and used to work in a shop with his father figure so he’s a genius inventor that figured out all of the technical work ON HIS OWN!

-Last remaining black man in this year’s Tumblr Sexyman poll

-Childhood best friend/crush ended up hurting a lot of his loved ones due to mental illness and unresolved trauma, he shows her compassion and tries to support her during her worst moments (literally invented a way to rewind time for a few seconds and rewinds time over and over again causing harm to himself just to stop her from committing suicide) but doesn’t show her complete mercy when she’s actively harming people and will fight her as much as he doesn’t want to when it comes to protecting others.

-Created a resistance movement and protects those that seek refuge. Gives people hope and a chance at a better life in this little man made oasis amidst the political turbulence and world of despair.

-Man got sent to another dimension where he had his happy ending and got together with his childhood crush and gave it up so 1) he could go back to his world and actually continue to work towards the happy ending his people deserved and 2) the Ekko of his dimension could have his life back. Man knew it wasn’t right to stay there and stuck to good morals!!!

-He has his silly moments and serious moments but when it comes down to it he’s been through a lot. Lost his father figure, his older sister figure, his childhood crush, his friends, witnessed police brutality, the effects of some of his found family being groomed/going down a dark path, and he STILL chose kindness and he STILL chooses to keep moving forward and he STILL shows compassion to others, but not weakness. This man ended up growing up alone and left behind and STILL fights for a better world for everyone, whereas the rest of the main/side characters end up doing shit for themselves most of the time.

-This young adult man has been through so much from family trauma to dimension hopping and is still intelligent and resourceful and kind enough to continue creating new inventions for people. He and Stanford Pines would bond over the similar situations they’ve been through and interests they have and Stanford would love to pass the torch down to the younger generation that’s proven that they can handle the work.

-I saw some people questioning his age. For anyone questioning his age, all characters in the sexyman polls have been verified to be of adult age. For any doubters, Ekko is estimated to be around 19-20years old by the end of the Arcane S2 finale. For League of Legends depending on the game type/season arc/cosmetic skin/promotional animation he is depicted anywhere from teenage age to up to around 27years old, though no age has been explicitly confirmed afaik.

For anyone that wants a more superstitious route: this sexyman poll is known to coincide with the death of prominent figures around the world.

In its first year Sans Undertale won, a skeleton working himself to the bone running a small independent business of a hot dog stand in a lower class area, won. The Queen of England died. Common ground: Sans lived in an area that had a retired queen and a king that had to be overthrown.

Last year, Stanley Pines from Gravity Falls won, an older man who was raised Jewish yet is canonically an atheist. The Pope, head of the Catholic Church, died.

Now let’s consider the implications for a black man winning. Perhaps, a racist would have an untimely demise? Who knows! Only time would tell of unforeseen circumstances not legally related to this poll!

PLEASE consider voting Ekko, at least let him tie please!! Stanford’s brother won last year and both of them are in this poll again. Gomez is still in the running!! There’s a lot of serious competition and Ekko should genuinely be considered for a fighting chance! Please consider this propaganda in your voting opinions!

this book is out now!!! it's a short read, less than 200 pages, and it's SO good. i literally had to pause halfway through just to send the author a message about how much i liked it. definitely leans more utopian than scientific, but that makes sense given the format, and i think it has a lot of good things to say.

once you really start thinking about how restrictive the world is for children and how many bullshit justifications we retroactively come up for it all the time, you can't stop seeing it everywhere. this book makes a good case for including children in our political efforts not as rhetorical devices but as an actual class of oppressed people.
