the thing that makes it so satisfying is the fact that this cult has spent so much of its resources destroying people’s lives for exposing their abuses and for the longest time they seemed untouchable

but here comes broccoli haired young TikTokers with their subway surfer music and all they can really do is flail helplessly behind them while telling them to stop and get out 😭

i think i really enjoy....helplessness in a narrative. You or a character are trapped in an impossible situation but you're given JUST enough tools to get a glimmer of hope. You learn the rules of this world and play around it, you learn what to do and what to avoid, you even triumph in some situations. You forget that you've gotten yourself between a rock and a hard place. Just because you can inch your way forward doesn't mean you arms aren't pinned to your sides, it doesn't mean that every time you breathe in, you aren't reminded of the mountain above you. Yet you still forget, because the gravel hasn't crushed you yet. What will you do, when the earth begins to rumble around you, but you've come too far to turn back?

a talking point i often see when defending the consumption of dark content is that it’s a coping mechanism for those with trauma which is very valid and true but i also want to make this abundantly clear: you can like dark content for no reason. you can enjoy fucked up shit in fiction because it’s enjoyable and entertaining. trauma is not required as a ticket for entry. enjoy your dark content bc it’s fun and sexy and don’t let anyone take that away from you
