assignment 7: environment design, part 1
description: what is this?
the underground ruins of the Hearth, a planet much like earth, where my main character is from. the underground used to be known as "Zameen"
my character comes from the Hearth and left it as a child, but now travels here frequently as she is an intergalactic thief and bounty hunger target and needs to lay low.
you can see in both works the body size versus everything else. in the first image, it was in the bottom right and in the second, it is in the bottom left.
walkways divide the cityscape space, as walking was highly prioritized in Zameen (transportation was limited, due to the poor ventilation underground)
bone-like structures serve as supports for the underground, wrapping it into a semicircle shape (much like a modern day subway). even in a sprawling ultra modern world, they still looked to nature for inspiration
the Zameen is a sprawling underground city that has since been abandoned when the Hearth became a desert wasteland, over and under ground
the cities were abandoned and crumbled to ruin, but before they did so they were overtaken by nature. but the hearth's ecosystem died entirely, so the overgrown nature is now dead and lifeless
industrial and natural structures lay side by side, lethally destroyed by one another, as the people of Hearth could not find a way for them to coexist.
the fact this actually looks like something LOL
the layout and perspective (it's not perfect, but it works) (in my defense this is a hard perspective/concept to work with)
perspective is weird and could be clearer
need more medium tones (greys) for variance
wanted to show more scale and how many abandoned buildings there are
not very clear between dead roots and destroyed buildings, look too similar - could be differentiated by value
iiiiii am not a landscape concept artist. i would like to be, but... wow, i have a long way to go. it is pain and there are so many small details that no one will see but that HAVE to be in there for things to feel real
