 The way Kyou moves around her, slips between the space of her frame and the wall to block the hallway path is a familiar one; it’s almost as if they are no different than the tiny selves they were all those years ago. Almost. Fortunately for Rin, she’s not holding one of her stupid dolls; had she been, he’d step on it.

🍪 Our muses bake and decorate Christmas cookies!

This was a terrible idea, he realizes, from his position in the kitchen, where he can see Hajime on the other side wrestling with the icing tube for the cookies still cooling on the counter. 

He inhales with the intent to sigh but by the time it should leave him, its already smothered by the frequent resignation that comes with raising a child. Parenting hadn’t kicked in for Kyou as he thought it would - it’s been four years and still, he finds himself making mistakes that should be obvious to avoid. ( Like leaving sticky things within reach of toddlers. ) But he accepts the mistake for what it is, throws it to the growing pile and advances across the room to hoist the energetic boy securely in his arms - obnoxious, sticky, green icing and all.

Standing over the tray of christmas tree cookies, he smiles. Grabbing one from the sheet, he brings it close so that Hajime can reach. 

“Hey, what are you doing, huh? You missed a spot.”

He may not have this whole ‘Dad’ thing figured out completely, but he loves every single day of it.

       For a moment, it looks like he might flag – that his words might stop short, that his expression might flicker. It holds steady in his stillness, expression held neutrally and unmoving with the smile sitting on his lips and lingering in his eyes. It could all change after he unfreezes but it doesn’t – the grin continues to dance in his eyes, lighting them up with warmth even when he closes them and places one hand on the back of his neck: the picture of almost embarrassed enough. 

       ❛ Ah, sorry. It’s a little much, huh? ❜ 

       Objectively, that’s an understatement. This sweater is leaps and bounds beyond even his most – festive of choices thus far. Not only is it patterned in cheerily bright colors, it also features a bow that pops right off of it, golden and glittering softly in the gentle sunlight. 

       Despite the rejection, Kureno still looks enamored with it. 

       ❛ Sorry, sorry. ❜ He places it gently back in the bag, careful not to crush the stitched on bow or wrinkle the plaid striped sleeves. ❛ Are you ready for lunch? ❜
