“I have very lazy feet, you see.” Lily giggled but followed her to the dance floor nonetheless. “Didn’t say anything is wrong.” she smiled. “I warn you, I’m not horrible but there’s still a chance of stepping on your toes.”

“Oh stop it with the excuses, Lazy feet.” Lennox laughed, not letting go of Lily’s arm as she led her onto the floor. “Don’t worry about it. I’ve become quite a good dance instructor and Im use to people stepping on my feet.”

"Did you become a dance instructor tonight or did you always have it in you?" she asked as they started to dance. "I always admired people who can dance. It needs some serious ha d eye coordination, which I unfortunately lack." she chuckled.

“Alright, then. Maybe I dropped it by the restrooms. We can check there.” she offered, walking towards there, her eyes on the floor and searching. “So, who did you came here with?” she asked absentmindedly. She was sure the redhead walked in with a boy in her arms, she was really pretty and known to have her way around usually.

Doris followed the girl, scanning the floor for the earring. “I came with Sebastian. But…I’m not really the best date. I hope he’s at least dancing with other girls.” She said with a sigh. “Did you come with someone?”

"You ditched him?" she asked, her brows shooting up. Not that she was judging Doris but more like her mind drifted to another person who wasn't around. Could James have ditched her as well? She sighed, keeping an eye for her earing. "Yeah, I came with Potter."

“I’m not lame! I’m resting my feet.” Lily shook her head. “Besides, I’ll probably step on your feet all the time and I doubt it’ll be fun for you in the end.” she smirked but she didn’t object anymore when the other redhead begged. “Fineee.” she sighed and got up. “We’ll look like twins there. Two redheads.” she giggled.

“You cant be resting your feet yet. The dance just started. Come on Lily.” Lennox urged, a smile coming to her lips as the other ginger stopped objecting and stood up. “Nothing wrong with that.” she held out her arm for Lily.

“It’s rather awkward, Edgar. But it’s your call.” Lily shrugged with an amused smile. “I’m fine with it as long as McGonagall let’s you.” she snickered.

“I would but Little Nott threw a fit a while ago and I dropped the idea.” he rolled his eyes. “Yeah.. I doubt she would, maybe I should try it some other time. Where’s Potter? I’d have thought he’d be using events like this to tail around you even more than he usually does.”

"Gabby? Well she's a prefect and clearly sees logic better than you." Lily chuckled. "Potter? Hmm.. I don't know, he was off to the loo. Must be around." she shrugged. "Why do you care, Bones? Upset he didn't ask you?"

“I don’t know, just a hunch.” Lily shrugged, biting her lip. “That makes two of us. I am done with drinking - especially after the last party.” she chuckled.

He ignored her comment, not that he really wanted to dance with the girl. “Really? Why, what happened in the last party?” he asked genuinely curious.

"Nothing. I just drank too much - which is basically drinking itself - and the headache was horrible the next morning." she lied smoothly, not really wanting to share the juicy gossip of he event that involved none other than herself.

Lily’s blood ran cold upon hearing the name. How many muggleborns was Lestrange after? “I… Did you do anything about it, Hugo?” she asked, she was even surprised he could so easily let out the name who did it when she couldn’t.

“Well, I - not really, not yet.” he said shrugging. “You are the head girl, can you tell me what I should be doing? Not like people get punished around here for what they do unless it’s missing homework assignment or something.”

"Tell Dumbledore." she said, very straightforward with her tone. But then she realized she could be putting Hugo in danger. "Did he say anything about hurting you if you told anyone? Did he threatened?" she asked, hoping the answer was no so she could suggest him to tell Dumbledore with clear conscious.

“Of course he was.” Lily rolled her eyes. “Well, maybe I should come alone, it’s not really like I am with a date here anyway.” she muttered, clearly a little offended. “What about you? Asked someone?” she smiled at Peter.

“No no no. Lily. He just wants to impress you. He’s really nervous. He kept muttering nonsense.” He said. “Oh and no. I just came because my friends were coming. Maybe I’ll find Lia later.”

"Impress me? Potter, wants to impress me?" she asked and followed with a hearty laughter. "Peter, as much as I love you trying to cover up for your friend, I highly doubt he cares about impressing me for some school dance." he said with an understanding smile. "I'm still surprised he even wanted to go with me." she shrugged. Of course she was surprised - not only did she not think he liked her but she knew she just gave ruined whatever chances she could have had by kissing Severus at the last party. "Lia? You two still...?"

Lily didn’t comment on Marlene’s words about her sister, she knew the blonde wasn’t fond of her - just like the rest of her lily’s friends. “I’m not on the team because I’m terrified of heights, the same reason I find traveling with a broomstick ridiculous.” she informed with a roll of her eyes. “Potter as in James I’m going to the loo really quick’ Potter who is still possibly in the loo or missing?” Lily asked raising her brows innocently. I’m not sure if he simply lost me or is runing away on purpose.“ she sighed. “I think I like them uncharmed better, now I think about it. Gives me an excuse to step on both your and potter’s toes.” she grinned at her friend.

“Oi, as if traveling on one of those arrowed panes is any better. At least you can control your own broom.” She laughed, taking a sip from her flask. “James, as in, James, my best mate is Sirius, son of a bitch, my pride is more important than your feelings, Black, but I put up with him, Potter? Yeah, my guess is Black caught his attention and is being a little fuck and James is trying to make sure he doesn’t burn down the castle, or something.” She said bitterly, rolling her eyes. “Yeah, well, you step on my toes again, and I’m going to leave you to dance with a bottle of firewhiskey.”

"A broom has no protection! What if I fall? What if it's too windy out and I get knocked off of my broom?" she asked with a shake of her head. She listened Marlene speak with an amused grin. "Trouble with Sirius?" she giggled. "What is it now?" she asked, not really thinking it could be a big deal. "Oh please, if sirius was to burn down the castle, James wouldn't be stopping. He'd be fanning the fire and make it bigger." she rolled her eyes. "Please don't leave me with the booze. Last time proved I'm not good with it but I really might get intimate with it again if Potter doesn't show up any time soon. I've been ditched, Marls!"

“Pot brownies? Oh dear Merlin.” she fanned her face. “What?! Who tried to drown you, Hugo?” she asked in absolute horror.

“Lestrange.. the older one, old news. I am fine and especially, breathing now. You know, breathing air, not water.” he chuckled.

“I realized about five minutes ago she sighed.” And searched the floor. “Oh you don’t need to. It would take your whole night. I should probably gave upon it as well.” she said sadly.

“Well, if they’re important to you, we should try to find it before someone steps on it.” Doris said, looking down around them. “I don’t mind helping. I could use the distraction anyway.”

“Forced?” Lily asked, brows raised as she tried to see how that would happen. “Didn’t know you were that close with Mulciber.” she muttered when he mentioned borrowing s suit. She couldn’t tell Sev to who to befriend or not but it really did bother her that the people he chose to be associated were those elitist Slytherins who were obviously future deatheaters. She sighed, deciding to not make any more remarks on the topic for she didn’t want to argue with him that night. She went there to have fun and she wasn’t going to ruin it by discussing Sev’s friends. “Oh I think it’s a muggleborn trait. You have to learn how to fit in in both worlds, we’re like little chameleons.” she chuckled softly. “Not really.” she replied his question, mimicking his answer. She was curious who she brought. “Who’s the lucky lady?”

Severus cleared his throat, trying to hide his awkwardness at her question. There was no way he was going to tell her the real motives for him attending the ball but at the same time he couldn’t come up with a proper explanation. “Uh, yeah I lost a bet with a friend so she made me come, as friends that is.” The lies flowed out quickly as he shrugged casually. “And I’m not really close friends with him but he was nagging about how all Slytherins had to look good so he let me have it. I would not have been able to afford one otherwise.” Sev explained. “Maybe it is, but you do stand out with amongst those that share your background. You always stand out… and that would be Emmeline. I wouldn’t call her lucky, though, I’m not really good at these things.”

When Sev went onto explain first why he was there and then why he was wearing a suit of Valerius Mulciber, she felt like she was interrogating him and immediately felt bad about it. She was in no position to make him feel like he had to explain stuff to her. They only kissed once, it wasn't like there was a relationship where they had to tell each other everything...

Realizing where her train of thoughts were going, she coughed away a choke and tried to shake the thoughts away. She was there with a date too, with the boy she claimed to like and yet she also thought about her kiss with another boy, who was her former best friend. What a mess! And the way he looks at her and talk wasn't helping her confusion either so she decided to not comment on his words, looking away, hoping she didn't blush. "Oh please, you'll just bring her drinks, chat and dance with her at the worst case scenario and I can't imagine spending time with you would be so bad, Sev." she chuckled. "Where is she now?" she asked curiously, her eyes searching for the girl.

James was still missing and after talking to a lot of different people, and even dancing with them, she was worried that her date wasn’t going to show up for the rest of the night. Despite having a good time with other people, she was tired of having to stand at a corner every time a slow song came on. She was once again waiting and hoping James would appear out of nowhere and maybe even ask her for a dance but who appeared was not him. Lily wasn’t expect to see Severus at the ball let alone find his lean appearance very handsome in a suit. He looked nice, whether he was aware of it or not and for a moment she was ogling. She quickly recovered, blaming her reaction to her lingering feelings after their shared kiss at the party and smiled at him, putting aside whatever argument that was left after she confronted him about the incident at the party. “I’m not. But neither are you and look who is here.” she chuckled. “You look really nice, Sev. Very fitting in the environment. You should have attended these more often.” she said, putting a hand on his forearm affectionately. “Did you come alone?”

Seeing Lily without James gave him a lot of relief, so much indeed that he forgot he was already planning on leaving. “Yeah… I was forced.” Sev smoothly lied with a shrug of his shoulders. “Not I don’t, I borrowed this from Mul…” He awkwardly drifted off knowing Vale’s existence wasn’t well appreciated after the torture rumors. “Uh, you look really beautiful, you fit in a lot more than me though. You always have.” A slight sigh left him as he said that. It wasn’t always that he found at an event like that anyways; he placed his hands in his pockets and smiled at her a little as he shook his head. “Not really… you?” Asking that brought back the anxiety, and he glanced around quickly to ensure that Potter was in fact nowhere to be seen.

“Peter!” Lily exclaimed in relief. “I can’t find James. I thought maybe he could be with one of you guys. Have you seen him around?”

“He was freaking out over his hair when I left the dorm.” Peter said, tapping his chin. “I don’t think he’s made his way down yet. Don’t worry. He’ll be here.”

"Of course he was." Lily rolled her eyes. "Well, maybe I should come alone, it's not really like I am with a date here anyway." she muttered, clearly a little offended. "What about you? Asked someone?" she smiled at Peter.

There was nothing more that unamused Severus than the idea of attending a ball with half the people he disliked. For a while he had deliberated not going, but when he heard a rumor of Lily possibly attending with none other than Potter he changed his mind and upfrontly asked to the ball the only girl he knew would take pity on his cause, Emmeline. She somehow agreed and the next thing he knew is that he was surrounded by girls in sparkly, glamorous gowns and boys in their best suits. Severus forced himself to have a decent time and spent the first hour talking to Emmeline and avoiding any activity that required having to dance. Once he noticed she had gotten bored of his routine he offered to get drinks, which mainly translated into using that as an opportunity for the two of them to do something else. He slowly wandered around for a while, stopping only to briefly talk to some of his housemates before he finally decided to leave. It would have made things easier for him to leave right away but just as he was turning to leave he spotted Lily alone. Seeing her there alone was odd, seeing as it brought back specific memories from the last party, and for a moment he just stood there, noticing how beautiful she looked. It didn’t take much to convince himself to go talk to her so he did, slowly waving his hand at her as he approached her. “I thought you weren’t much of a party girl.”

“No no, I know what it means,” she chuckled. “I was just… Never mind.” she gave up, realizing it’d be too long to explain her thinking process. “I do know you’re a prefect, that’s why it’s more scary.” she laughed. “I should probably stop worrying about such things at least tonight.” she muttered, more to herself.

“Potter’s not as bad as he seems. And he’s a hell of a quidditch player. I think Dumbledore made the right choice in him as Headboy, he’s a natural leader.” She said with a smile, shrugging. “Don’t worry, I take my job seriously. I mean, not too seriously, but seriously enough.” Sophie laughed, nodding in agreement. “You should. The place looks great. I mean, there are no apples to bob for, but what can you do?”

"I know..." Lily trailed, agreeing with Potter not being a bad person. She did realize that over their sixth year and then through the summer break, she did saw more that she'd been dismissing for so long. "Not so surprisingly, he is. I think it comes with the Quidditch thing. He likes leading." she smiled. "Oh I'm glad there are no apples to Bob, it just gets ridiculous too quickly and I think I'd rather have everyone have dry dresses." she chuckled.

“I’m not sure if you’d suggest such thing if you were sober.” Lily retorted with a sigh and an almost eye roll. “Are you drunk already, Nott?”

“Why wouldn’t I?” he asked, a pleasant smile on his features. “I haven’t been drinking much, actually. Not in the mood for it.”

"I don't know, just a hunch." Lily shrugged, biting her lip. "That makes two of us. I am done with drinking - especially after the last party." she chuckled.
