I really had to listen to John Deacon say he didn’t like Hot Space when it was finished with my own two ears and I feel betrayed.
…what the fuck man…
For anyone wondering his exact words were:
Interviewer: The last album Hot Space didn’t really do that well
John: No, no.
Interviewer: Um, what do you think accounted for that?
John: I don’t know,um, I personally didn’t like it very much
Interviewer: Oh, really?
John: No not when it was finished
Interviewer: I talked to Brian May the other day and he said he was very satisfied with it.
John: Oh yeah? I didn’t like it really. Um, and I also, it was all a bit much in one direction. And uh, in America I know we lost a bit of fans, especially from the rock side, because of the direction. And now we’re having to pull back which is quite hard.
Interviewer: It does seem that you have a lot of different sides to the band. Like you got Brian May pulling it in a very rock like direction.
John: Yes, yes that’s true.
Interviewer: Where as Freddie you got-
John: No Freddie writes his own style of songs. Which tend to be more melodic. Yeah, and ballad like. He doesn’t really tend to write any heavy songs. Well, he used to in the early days. And Roger whose writing has improved a lot over the last few years. And there’s me as well. I tend to uh, go towards a more, you know, I quite like a funk style a bit and a bit more poppy. In a way more that sort of thing. So you know, we do sort of have these pulls in different directions. Which is a problem really.
Interviewer: Well who on earth pulled it that in the funk direction after that for hot space?
John: Well I don’t know really. That’s difficult in a way.
Interviewer: It behooves me
John: Yeah, it behooves me as well. And no cause we had a big success with Another Bites the Dust right?
Interviewer: Oh I see. So it was an extension of that?
John: Sort of in a way, yeah. I don’t know. Freddie wanted to do two or three things like that.
Interviewer: Which turned into a whole album?
John: Well, not a whole album but a lot of it really, yeah.
The whole interview can be found here. It’s from 1984, during John and Rogers press in Japan. Right after their TV interview.
John Deacon’s hands, yall
I had a blast making this post
My hand/arms kink going strong
Enjoy 💦
Today (17th April) is “Queen’s Day(クイーンの日)” in Japan!
44 years ago, on 17th April 1975, Queen arrived in Tokyo, Japan. This was their first trip to Japan, where the exciting fans there gave them a heartwarming welcome they have never experienced before.
Roger Taylor as Furbies
This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen … I love it.
reblog to have good concert luck
appreciation post for when brian’s legs do That™
This genius here played some of the best lines. Some of my fav are :
- The millionaire waltz. The intro is a gift to the world.
- The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke , he’s a master.
- Liar, for the crescendo, I could listen to this again and again, on repeat for hours.
- Another one bites the dust, duh
- Under Pressure ding ding ding ding ding ding, do I need to say more?
- The show must go on. This one always gets me. I find something stirring in this bass line, which of course add something in this particularly song. and it always gets stuck in my head. Actually that’s why I’m writting this post.
Of course there are a lot more bass treasure in Queen music
What’s your favorite?
Brian songs: “We’re all crippled by internal existentialist dread-” (guitar solo) “Can you feel the weight of the cosmos pressing down on you? Can you feel the universe’s expectations?” (Choral interlude)
Freddie songs: (piano riff) “All I want is love. Why is that so difficult?” Or, alternatively: (piano riff) “Thou who hast wronged me shall perish by sword”
John songs: (sassy riff) (bongos) “Fuck you”
Roger Songs: “Down with the government.” (Bass slap) “Burn this oppressive regime.” (drum machine interlude) “Better to die standing-” (skkrrt) “-than live on your knees.” (keyboard explosion effect)
I’m just going to leave this here…
im on mobile, can someone make one that adds “jews”
Done

thank you for coming to my ted talk
My new favorite activity is showing straight guys this picture of Rogerina and watch them talk about how attractive she is and see how long it takes them to realize the truth
You cannot keep up with Roger unless you have all your wits about you and you don’t sleep. He reads the papers… he’s aware of trends. And he’s into being a rock and roll star… to live it and breathe it. And he was. - Brian May
