Stop and Smell the World (Terezi/Jade)

It just so happened that Jade was still hanging around the slave hold, receiving the confirmation that she’d been rented out by one Terezi Pyrope. She’d never met the teal blood before but she’d heard nothing negative about the troll girl. Although honestly Jade never really trusted second hand accounts until she’d made an assessment herself. The human girl perked up as she heard footsteps coming towards her room. Her head cocked to the side before recognition flashed behind her eyes.

Of course, she was being picked up today. Her suspicions were confirmed when she heard the high feminine voice outside her door. “Be right there!” Jade called back, rolling over and lifting herself up from her bed. She kicked aside a few stray pillows and blankets gathered by the door and pulled it open to reveal the teal blood. “Sorry, I almost forgot you were coming to get me! The guardbots usually do the picking up.” Jade rattled off, opening the door wider to allow the troll girl inside.

“Come on in! I’ll get my things?” She said, trailing into a question with an uncertain lilt to her voice. Would they be leaving the slave hold? So far every master she’d been rented by had done so. It stood to reason this would be no different.

The human girl’s response came quite soon after her initial call.  She stood outside for just a few more moments before the door swung open.  She grinned as Jade explained the situation, shrugging after she’d finished.  “Yeah, I know, but I only let the guardbots pick up for me when I want to be cold and impersonal.  Hardly what I’d call a good first impression, don’t you think?”

She stepped inside as the door widened, giving a nod at the uncertain statement.  “Go ahead.  We can head back to my hive when you’re done.”  She seemed like the type who’d be at least a little captivated by her hive, as well as the whole forest it resided in.  Terezi looked forward to seeing what sort of reaction she’d have- hopefully she wasn’t afraid of heights, at least.

Stop and Smell the World (Terezi/Jade)

Sometimes Terezi didn’t quite feel like renting someone she’d spoken with before.  Whether it was to see if she could irritate the crap out of Tomori, or so she could spend more time with Karkat...sometimes she just wasn’t in one of those moods.  There were times where she wanted to rent someone she’d hardly even spoken to before.  Long as she was waiting around in here for the whole thing to come crashing down, she might as well get to know more people, right?

This was one of those times.  She’d noticed Jade Harley around the hold every now and then.  It wasn’t often enough to really know much about her aside from the fact that she lived here, but that was good enough.  She seemed to be pretty upbeat, which the blind troll liked.  Some of the people here were absolutely miserable, both in their personalities and to be around.  Seeing a bit of positivity every now and then was refreshing, so hopefully that really was the case and not just a misjudgement on her part.

Well, she’d find out soon enough.  It wasn’t very long before Terezi came to a stop right outside Ms. Harley’s door.  She knocked a few times, backing away from the door soon after.  “Anyone home?” she called out, not expecting a response aside from the door opening- or maybe a quick exclamation of affirmation.

Sollux slinked off the platform, his gaze cast downward as he kneaded his bottom lip between large front fangs. His face was hot as he wakes passed the high blood, eye contact carefully avoided. Sollux stopped slightly behind her as he waited for her to raises herself on the platform.

This was stupid. He was stupid for acting like this. He’s fought loyalist and drones for his and others’ freedom and what does him in is a tiny elevation platform? Why would any troll make what was essentially their doorway a death trap? As thoights like these raced through his head, Sollux fidgeting quietly as embarrassment and mild shame rolled off of him in waves.

Avoiding eye contact probably wasn’t nearly as necessary as he seemed to think it was.  It was just another sign of his humiliation- again, something that Terezi relished.  She wouldn’t mock him for it- as wonderful as the feeling was, she didn’t want to be mean to him about it.  He still seemed fun to get along with, after all.

Once she stepped onto the elevator she grabbed the rope and started pulling, quite easily hoisting herself upward.  Granted, it still took her a good minute or two to get to the top, but there weren’t any real hindrances.  Once at the top she flipped a switch on the central pulley wheel and dropped the elevator back down.  This time it descended in a complete freefall, stopping just short of the ground by her grabbing the rope.  She then flipped the switch back to its original position.  “Alright, grab on!” she hollered down to him, ready to bring him up to her level.

Trial and Error (Disciple and Terezi)

It wasn’t always easy for Terezi to hide her support of the rebellion.  Having constantly been in contact with people who genuinely hated it, she’d gotten more used to how to act in such a manner.  That didn’t mean it was constantly the first thing on her mind.  In fact, a while back when Tomori was screaming at Herana  in the common room, she knew she was pushing it a bit by trying to get the handmaid to stop.  But in all honesty, most people she knew wouldn’t have minded such a thing, given Tomori’s reputation in the hold anyway.

The tealblood figured now would be a good time to work on that.  She’d elected to take a bit of a risk this time around by renting Herana herself, then practicing how to act with her.  She needed to find a happy medium that hid her support of the rebellion, but wasn’t overly harmful toward the members, least of all the leaders.  This would be the perfect way to get her edge back!  Once she arrived at the disciple’s door she gave it a few knocks.  She stepped back and breathed deeply but quietly, mentally preparing herself to get to observing.

Sollux stared hard at her for a moment. He was frozen in his spot at the thought of letting go. When rope slid slightly in his sweating hand he chirpped in distress and steady himself before slowly sitting down the rope still held tightly in his hands.

“If I die from plummeting to the earth,” the psionic’s strained voice called from where he was now partially hidden from the platform. “I swear by the juices that will undoubtedly leak from my pan that I will haunt your cackling ass for the next FOREVER.” As Sollux finished, he peeled his straining fingers from the rope.

True to the highblood’s word, the platform gently descended back towards the ground. As it settled safely on the ground, Sollux’s cheeks were dusted bright gold while his dual colored eyes avoided Terezi as he remained seated. He cleared his throat quietly before speaking, “That was actually a very pleasant downward movement and I’m not even sure what I was so worried about in the first place because not even you seem crazy enough to create a non-accident proof lift.”

She continued looking up at him, unfazed by his continued threatening.  A lack of complete trust was definitely understandable, but she knew it’d work out.  That elevator had been working just fine for her as she intended for the longest time, so there’d be no plummeting or haunting anytime soon.  “I’m fully ready to accept the consequences of whatever painful death you will not experience as a result of my advice,” she replied.

As expected, the slave’s descent went just fine, and he was quite obviously embarrassed when he landed.  This, of course, delighted the blind troll- she was indiscriminate when it came to flustering others.  “Of course not- crazy as I may seem, I know what I’m doing more often than not.  Now get off- I’ll go up there first and help bring you up after that.”

It’s took everything in Sollux’s power to not look down the moment she said that. His half aborted movement cause the makeshift lift sway slightly under him. His voice rose in pitch as he white knuckled the rope used to raise the platform. “You are really not helping! I’m actually trying to use your stupid death trap of an upward mobility device so would you SHUT UP AND LET ME DO IT!” As he yelled Sollux tipped his head forward over the edge of the platform to look at tealblood below him.

The moment his fury faltered was the moment he regretted that decision. His tired arms shook from the exertion as nerves filtered through him and settled heavily in his chest. He let out a breathy whimper as he took in the distance he had made versus what he still had left. “I have done two of those things. My arms are stanging a very weak revolt and I’m getting full ganderbulbs of the ground. Fuck. Why did I think could actually do this? I’m going to die.” His sentences began to run together at points nearly splitting them perfect pairs as he remain unmoving above the ground.

Admittedly it was fairly twisted of Terezi to mess with Sollux the way she was.  In all honesty, though, she didn’t quite know he was that tense.  His gradually rising voice got a restrained giggle out of her, but she could tell he was in genuine distress.  Her games would only go as far as she planned for them to, and it was time for this one to wind down.  “Alright, fine!” she yelled back up at him, hands raised defensively.  “Normally when I tell people not to do those things, they don’t do them, y’know.  But I can tell when my perfectly sound advice is unappreciated!”  Oh yeah, the games were over, but the sass would never be.

Of course that one look was enough to make him start panicking.  Sheesh, he was a fragile one.  She’d probably have to lighten up a bit on the shenanigans if she wanted to get along with him.  “You’re not even that high up!” she shouted up to him, arms thrown out at her side.  “Fine!  You want to live?  Sit down on the elevator and let go of the rope.  It should slowly lower you back down.”

Sollux arked an earbrow as she explained, his worried look shifting to slightly skeptical. “You want me to pull myself and the death stage contraption all the way to the top of this questionable decorated mockery of a human holiday tree with THESE?” He punctuated his statement by throwing his thin arms out in front of him.

For a moment Sollux just stood and stared at the highblood in front of him before sliding nervously back into place in the center of the elevator. He wrapped his delicate hands around the rope and looked upward the hive wrapped high around the branches. With a solid tug the platform shifted under Sollux’s feet causing a short sharp squawk to fly from his mouth as he clung to the rope. He attempted to regain want little composure he had left as he slowly and carefully began hauled himself towards the top of the tree.

The tealblood listened to his concerns patiently.  While she understood they were absolutely valid given his physical condition, that didn’t stop her from responding with a firm nod.  “Yes, exactly!  Unless you’ve got another way up there...or you want to pull yourself up with something besides those.”

She nodded again as he took the proper position, this time more gently.  The cry he gave as the elevator shifted got a few giggles out of her, but she quickly resumed her silence, her olfactory gaze following him the short distance up the tree.  He seemed to be doing pretty good so far, though he was making very slow progress.  “Keep going!  It won’t get any more difficult going further up unless you let it...or your arms get tired.  Or you look down.”  Okay, she was kinda pushing it at this point, but she was entitled to some fun if she was going to be waiting so long.

One of Those Other Reasons

Oh boy did that ever get a rise out of him. Not used to being complimented, red rose into his cheeks as his body tensed up just a little. Tripping over his words, he fumbled a bit in his footing before clearing his throat. “Don’t mention it,” was his simple, mumbled response as he followed her onto one of the transportilizer pads. His eyes glanced away, still quite a bit flustered from her reaction as having not anticipated it in the slightest. There was a considerable bout of mixed feelings for this teal-blooded troll, and despite his moirail’s clear black advances towards her, his own were considerably more red. Whether or not he would pursue them was an entirely different case, but for sure the interest was there.

Terezi grinned and chuckled before turning her head forward again.  She knew when she reacted how she did that he’d either end up flustered or irritated, and of the two, the former was obviously the one she preferred.  While he could definitely grate on her nerves from time to time, she did feel significantly flushed for him, and she’d picked up that it was almost certainly reciprocated, perhaps in a similarly complicated manner as her own interest.  She wanted to wait, though- let him make the first move.  Knowing she could probably do it and be successful was enough satisfaction.  Forcing him to take action instead was just enjoyable.

Once they were on the pad she typed in some coordinates really quickly, soon sending them to the main platform of Terezi’s hive, right up where the elevator would have taken them, because she wasn’t in a mood to take the time to go up one after the other.  The blind troll walked over to the front door and unlocked it, heading inside while leaving the door open for Karkat.  “Don’t dawdle now- court is set to be in session shortly!”

Sollux’s tongues clicked against the roof of his mouth as they appeared. He blinked a couple of times to make sure that he was indeed gazing upon what appeared to be a hanging tree. “So you live in the culling yard of the forgotten toys? Why did I not see that coming?”

He slowly followed her direction and gingerly toed his way into the elevator. “Is this thing even safe? Excuse me if I seem sceptical of a one person lift built into a tree with mock executions on every branch.” He stood anxiously in the center of the elevator before looking worryingly back towards the troll on the outside. It was times like this when he truly missed having his psionics.

Terezi turned her head to him at his question and grinned, “looking” up at the tree again soon after.  “I wouldn’t say ‘forgotten.’  Let’s just say they’re up there for good reason.”  It was possible he’d find out what that reason was during his time here, but until then it was more fun to just be vague about it.

“Pfffft.”  She waved her hand dismissively at his concern.  “It’s fine!  I’ve been using it for sweeps and it's hardly ever broken- and when it did it was close to the ground.  All you have to do is pull that rope with the knot on the end and keep pulling until you’re at the top.”  Sure enough, there was another rope hanging down near where the other one was, except rather than being attached to the elevator, this one hung loose, with a noticeable knot tied into the end.

Sollux squawked our a laugh, “i hope you enjoy crushing a limp nerd under your as s for two weeks because that’s what a piggy back ride from me would be.” He shuffled long behind the tealblood shifting his light bag higher up on his shoulder. Maybe he should find a book or a game he can bring with him on these trips.

He watches as the other troll programed the teleporter to what drop them into what he assumed was still going to be her hive. The last time he was rented wasn’t all that bad so perhaps this would be no different.

She cackled briefly at his admittance.  “Sounds fun!  Maybe I’ll give it a try just to see what it’d be like.”  Of course she didn’t really want to end up hurting him, but...maybe if it were in a controlled environment like her hive then she could see how it would go.

She helped him onto the transportalizer after inputting the coordinates, the two of them being zapped in an instant to the base of a rather formidable tree.  Plush scalemates hung from the branches by makeshift nooses, surrounding the hive built into its canopy.  “Here we are!”  She headed over to the elevator she used to get up and down, standing beside it and looking to him expectantly.  “Come on, you first!  It only supports one at a time.”

One of Those Other Reasons

That was one thing Karkat wasn’t all that fantastic at - coming up with activities to do. He’d read more than enough lately with all the free time, so that didn’t sound all that appealing. As much as he loved romcoms, movies were never something they could agree on, and even if she was willing to put up with romcoms, he’d watched quite a fair share lately at his kismeisis’ place. When it came to activities outside of those two, he didn’t really know what to do. Being mostly constricted to master’s houses didn’t help either. “I really don’t know,” he responded, “I guess I wouldn’t mind being in one of those trials of yours.” He hoped he wouldn't regret offering.

Hearing that he was unsure of what he wanted to do did have her raising an eyebrow, but not nearly as much as hearing the suggestion.  She, of course, had no idea that he’d exhausted all the things she knew he loved already, so that was what she was most expecting.  The expression of disbelief on her face when she turned to him relayed this.  “Wait, really?”  Through the shock, she was genuinely excited that he would suggest a trial...but of course she had to play things up a bit.  Her surprised face gave way to an elated grin as her hands were pulled up to her chest in excitement- which yanked Karkat’s arm a bit too.  “I never thought you’d actually suggest a trial!  You’re soooooo sweet, Karkat!”  It was around this time that they set foot in the transportalizer room, where hopefully there wouldn’t be anyone else around for the other troll’s sake.

The low blood looked at her blankly before turning and walking back into his room leaving the door open “Well just so we’re clear when the day comes and I’m dress as a sexy whatever it is you decide I want to be dress in primarily primary colors,” Sollux mused as he stood in the center of his room looking around. How long was he going to be at her hive?

Sollux grabbed his back pack and tossed a couple changes of clothes inside. He grabbed a sweatshirt and slip on his shoes before giving the room another once over. He turned back to the high blood and scratched at the scabbed wound behind his ear where they put the chip as he waved her back out of the room. “Lead the way, oh master of mine,” he said dryly as he shut the door behind them.

Terezi chuckled at the other’s response, shaking her head.  “I believe that’s up to me.  I may consider your input, though.  Very nice choice of color palette, if anything.”  She could always get when someone had an appreciation for the less subdued hues.  Taking a deeper sniff than normal, she got another look at those sweet shades he wore.  Maybe she could convince him to get a pair for her, even if she loved her solid red ones just fine.

The blind troll waited quietly as he got everything ready.  Once it looked like everything was all set she pushed herself off the doorway, stepping back out of the room.  His snarky comment got a grin out of her.  “Smart tongue you have on you, Captor.  Better be careful with it or I’ll be piggybacking on you wherever I go for the next two weeks!”  She wasn’t totally confident such a plan would work with how scrawny this guy was, but it was fun to make that sort of threat anyway.  Still smiling to herself, she turned and started heading down the hall toward the transportalizer room.

Sollux twitched out of his bored daze. He had been laying on his back in a half asleep stupor when the loud knocks startled him back to reality. Blinking his eyes quickly the slow sat up and stared at his door. Perhaps if he ignored the raps whoever it was would go away and he could go back the fleeting thoughts ghosting through his mind.

Sluggishly he shuffled over towards the door slipping on his glasses and he opened it slightly, his thin body still half blocked by the wood. His brows fell in thought as he looked at the his reflection in the tealblood’s red glasses. He recognized her. Sort of. Every time he had seen her something was going wrong so he never had the chance to actually meet her. "Did you need something?“ his voice was slightly raspy from his half sleep. "Is this the part where you tell me I’m your slave and drag me around this hell hole by my ankle while I wear something dumb or are you just here to say hi?”

Soon enough the door opened up, the room’s owner standing there and seeming pretty tired.  Had he just woken up or something?  Wouldn’t be the first time she got someone who’d been taking a nap just before she showed up, but she knew better than to make a big deal out of it with someone she hadn’t really met who’d possibly think she was legitimately pissed about it.

Terezi chuckled a bit at his question.  “What a perfect idea!  I’ll have to remember that for later.  But anyway, no, I’m not here to do exactly that...aside from tell you that yes, you are my slave for the next couple weeks.”  She grinned and leaned against the doorway.  “You shouldn’t worry about it too much, though- I doubt we’ll have any issues for a while.  Now, just pack everything you think you’ll need and we’ll get to my hive.”

Slow as life in the hold could be sometimes, even masters didn’t always get time to do everything they wanted to.  Terezi had felt that unfortunate reality for a while now.  It had been a month or so since a particular new slave was brought into the hold, and even if she’d been in the common room with him a couple times, she still hadn’t really gotten to spend a whole lot of time with him, whether he was busy or someone decided to fuck her day up or anything like that.

Well, that was about to change.  She managed to rent the mustardblood for this list, which would surely make the perfect opportunity to spend some time together- provided he’d be cooperative.  He didn’t seem like a major prick or anything, so she was pretty sure that he’d be fine with it.  She’d just have to take him back to her hive and then they’d have all the time they could need.  Terezi strolled down the slavehold hallway, soon finding the room she’d heard he was being kept in.  She gave a few firm knocks and stood back, hands behind her as she waited for a few seconds.

One of Those Other Reasons

As he’s tugged forward, he stumbles in his footing, not having expecting such a quick tug. “Woah woah alright fine calm your shit,” he insists, managing to keep up now as he follows along her side to the transportilizers. “What do you even have planned for while we’re there?” He wonders if she’s even thought that through. He’d rather not sit through another trial only to be proclaimed guilty, but at this point even any mock trial would be better than sitting in his room alone. While he probably won’t admit to it, he’s pretty thankful for the other offering to spend some time together.

Terezi broke right into a hurried pace, though not so hurried that Karkat would have to run.  The stumbling was anticipated, though, and she snickered under her breath at his response.  His question made her throw up the hand not holding onto his own in a noncommittal gesture.  “We could figure something out, but since I was originally going to just hang out in your room, I wasn’t planning on doing anything we couldn’t do there.  If you want to suggest anything, go ahead.”  She felt she could guess some of the things he’d suggest, and while they weren’t her favorite activities, spending time with him was nice anyway.  The transportalizer room was now just down the hall, which led her to slow her steps ever so slightly.

“I assumed you’d be preoccupied with your cerulean blooded shithead of a slave, so yeah I’m a bit surprised,” he scoffed, quirking an eyebrow, “But a break sounds needed. Not to mention any excuse to not be sitting around bored all day sounds like a good enough excuse for me.” Thankfully unlike last time she swung by, he’s already dressed, and anything he might need is already in his sylladex. “I don’t think spending any time here is that much of a good idea though. The most I have are some books in here, and the space isn’t much bigger than maybe that of two decent sized closets, if we’re talking like Harry Potter closets here.” He scoffs at the thought, before his attention turns back to her. “If anything heading back to your hive would be the most optimal choice out of the two, unless you wanted to just hang around the common room.” The common room, however, only warranted encounters with a few people he’d rather not see.

“Oh yeah, she definitely hasn’t been easy to manage, but I’ve been making it just as hard for her!  It’s sorta like when I rented Tomori except not total hell.”  Sure, that hell had been worth it in the end, but still.  Terezi grinned widely as he accepted the idea.  “Great!  Now neither of us has to suffer the day alone!"  Of course, Karkat could always just go to one of his quadrants’ places if he wanted some company.  It was fortunate he hadn’t already, in fact.

“Huh, good point,” she muttered, sniffing past him to check out the cramped quarters.  Rose had made hers more bearable through turning it into a big pillow fort, but Karkat’s didn’t seem nearly as appealing.  The blind troll shrugged when he gave his suggestion.  “Yeah, going back to my hive sounds a lot better than the common room right now.”  She did not need to deal with any potentially unpleasant people right now- now was the time for taking it easy.  She grabbed his hand and pulled on it in urgency.  “So c’mon, let’s go!”

‘Sibling’ Rivalry // Vriska and Terezi

“Flattery so soon? I must have caught you in a good mood. How fortunate of me!” Near predatory eyes watched Terezi closely. This was out of character. This was a game and she wasn’t keep on losing, especially to an old rival. Pyrope had always had her appeal, physically she was all unforgiving angles, and while it was easy to underestimate her, Vriska has seen her her achieve feats that would give wrigglers nightmares. Still, she was always unpredictable. A constant pendulum that either resembled a snake about to strike, or an old friend. It was off putting, in the least. Always causing the cerulean blood to be on her toes lest she wanted to get bitten.  Even so, Terezi’s words had an after taste. One that she wasn’t sure whether she should anticipate or dread because fuck the potential was a flip of the coin. “We’ll see if you have anything for me to do later on? We both know that you wouldn’t have had me brought to your hive if there wasn’t a set agenda. You don’t play chance without knowing the outcome. So tell me, Pyrope. What exactly do you want me for?” She sat on the nearest chair and tapped her fingers in mock anticipation. She was curious. Gods she was so curious but if Terezi caught on to her, what, giddiness? Excitement? At FINALLY being around someone who was a competition. She wouldn’t let her live it down. She’d be so fucking smug and Vriska couldn’t allow the only entertaining person in this god damn shit hole the satisfaction of riling her up in such a way.

“Got that right!  Looks like your luck hasn't completely run dry, huh Serket?”  Her head turned a bit so she could sniff out the spider troll's expressions.  Even though Vriska's stare went without being reciprocated- for obvious reasons- Terezi could tell she was keeping a close eye out for anything that'd tip her off to what she was planning.  She wasn't planning on giving everything away, of course, but maybe shedding jut a bit of light on what she had running through her head wouldn't go completely amiss. Fun as having Vriska at a disadvantage was, it wouldn't be quite as interesting for her if the only thing she could do was be as paranoid as possible.

She looked back over as the other spoke, seeming to work things out pretty quickly.  It wasn't unexpected- while Terezi did know how Vriska worked, the reverse was true as well.  She was bound to catch on sooner or later.  Of course, she still had no intention of letting everything out in the open just from one question.  “Okay, fine,” she admitted, turning around to face her all the way now.  “I might have a couple ideas of just what to do with you.  Mock trials, errands, humiliating outfits...basically everything I do with my other slaves, but maybe a bit more of it just for fun!”  She gave that shit-eating grin of hers to Vriska for a few seconds before it dropped and she continued. “But if you really want to, we could take some time to catch up a little, since who knows how long we're gonna be stuck here with each other?”
