"Under socialism, you don't get fired, your employer just shoots you in the back of the head," is a wild-ass take I have seen from someone who (like me) lives in a country where healthcare is job dependent and whatever assistance was being offered to the disabled via the government is being cut off bit by bit, state by state.
No one even remotely brought up socialism- they just suggested that it's wrong to fire employees for being sick.

I'm never fully sure if it's worth trying to make promotion posts on Tumblr, as that's not really how Tumblr works, but I'm going to throw a little post out into the void here and include some self-promotion.
So, first of all, I'll be streaming on Twitch every day at 10:30 am EST starting tomorrow and every day through Halloween. I'll be switching to 2-3 streams weekly after that.
I've got the time to do this now, as I have burned out on my career and, having given notice over a month ago, my last day of employment was yesterday. I was a costumer at a theme park, and while at the base of it, this was a very fitting job for me and I like costuming and I even liked my job most of the time, I found myself unable to continue.
I live an hour and half away from where I was working, resulting in 3 hours of driving a day. I was doing this for the last 4 years, and slowly over time I wore down and no longer had energy for my personal endeavors. I haven't made a costume for myself in years, and that's been a point of unhappiness for me. I haven't performed in years, and that's always been my true passion.
Then came about a month long struggle with dizziness, pain in my knees, my feet, my elbows and hands. Most of these symptoms are not uncommon for the body stressors that sewing (and driving) all day can cause you. But it was the fact that at the end of a painful work day, I still needed to drive an hour and half home and I would end up straight in bed that really fed into a cycle of physical and mental struggles.
I was depressed.
I got the opportunity to audition for a musical that rehearsed at the end of September (the audition was in August) and ran through October. I decided that when I told my boss that I was auditioning for the show, that I would also just use this as a sign to set an end date for my employment. I did not get cast, so I continued with my job through opening our Halloween events.
So here I am, on the path to trying to figure out how to nurture myself and also find ways to make money. I'm planning to pour my efforts into gaming and crafting videos and streaming for at least a while so if you're seeing this, maybe hopefully join me.
Okay so warning that I'm not actually a Tolkien lore girly, but I'm having a thought and I'm putting it on my dumb Tumblr blog so roast me or whatever.
Sometimes I feel like there's this impression of Hobbits as kinda lazy and layabout, but...they actually have to be probably the hardest working MFers in all Middle Earth. They eat SO MUCH. And they also don't leave the Shire much, so they produce all of that food right there. These cheerful tiny people like make it all a big party or whatever, but somebody's got to constantly be working to grow the potatoes and cook them. Somebody builds their lil houses into the hills. Somebody makes the tools they use to farm and cook. Hobbits don't necessarily have an easier life than the other races, they're just crazy happy anyway.
Maybe it's just me as a casual that got the initial impression like oh the Hobbits just lay around eating grapes. Gandalf goes to the Hobbits to fix all his problems not just because oh the Hobbits are so much less corruptible- they literally are the hardest, heartiest workers in the whole of Middle Earth.
Anyway, here's a short ramble/rant inspired by seeing the trailer for Maintenance Required.
Sometimes my thoughts are so half formed and I hate it. I recognize it takes time to synthesise and build compassionate and productive arguments for the things you think should happen or exist in the world. But man, trying to get to there, and figure out what the right time and forum to approach those thoughts out loud is can really put me on an internal spiral.

Had a dream last night that my family was living in a large home, and we had an absolute fuck ton of Halloween animatronics. They were just lined up a long the wall like a show room almost. I'm chatting with family members, they're coming and going but I'm just hanging out in this animatronics room like yes this is very normal. But every once in a while one of them turns on and I'm like, "Ah, mom must have turned this on when she left the room," and turn it off. But slowly, they just keep turning back on, until I finally realize all of them are moving now and no one but me has been in the room for a very long time and just as I start to go, "Hmm, I think this house is haunted," I woke up with a start even though I wasn't scared in the dream.
Was nice to see my grandmother again though. Don't think I've dreamed of her in a while and she was one of the family members I had a long chat with.
Alright, got a bit of a rambly round up of what I've been watching, playing and crafting lately.
Trying to start back up on the video thing, starting with this rambly update vlog.
Buffy vampire lore is pretty inconsistent, but the fact so many of you have decided the 'solution' to this problem is "oh, the Watchers' Council are lying to trick Buffy into killing vampires for them and actually vampires are secretly good and nice with rich inner lives" is genuinely infuriating to me. Just an absolute refusal to engage with the fiction in any meaningful way at all. The Watchers' Council aren't even a particularly big part of the show's lore (they're only mentioned by name in about twenty episodes and not at all in seasons one, two or six). Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a show about a girl called Buffy (who is complex and interesting and sympathetic) who kills vampires (who are none of these things) and is right to do it. That is fundamental to the whole premise of the show. If you want to watch something where vampires are all tortured and tragic and romantic and unfairly misunderstood then just watch something else!
I've never before heard a Watcher's Council is lying argument, but my own personal take has always been that the Council is very much incompetent, so even if "vampires have the capacity to be good" is a true blanket statement I don't think the Council is out there figuring that out in order to need to intentionally hide it. This is an organization that has rarely successfully kept a Slayer alive into her 20's (partially because they intentionally try to kill them at 18) and the only Slayers who have lived longer lives have done so outside or in direct defiance of the organization. For whatever reason, they care more about control of the Slayer than actually fighting evil, so I just cannot imagine them having the capacity to fathom a "What if vampires are just people?" situation.

I feel like the older woman I used to work with who once corrected me in front of everyone when I called a sewing thread a string would hate this post, LOL. I believe it was even literally in the context of me saying I had a knot in my string, and she instantly just goes "You mean thread."
I wasn't trying to start shit because we were trapped in a room for 8 hours that day but I just stared back down at my work like wtf. Was the distinction really worth it? If someone told her there was a string hanging off her shirt, would she turn around and go, "There's a THREAD hanging off my shirt." Like, we all still know what I was talking about, I just happened to say string instead of thread in that one instant. But at the end of the day it really is all just string.

Well here I sit, almost exactly 8 years later. Wearing the same fucking tank top.
These fans worked for 1 week and then the lights desynced and I performed with them like that twice, but I have since dismantled and repurposed because I was so mad they never worked the way I wanted them to.

I have a co-worker who has asked questions I had the answer to, but she changed the topic of conversation with herself 3 times before even taking a fucking breath so I just never answered her question. Not like, work related questions, just like shit she's curious about that I happen to know about, but if she can't stop to hear an answer, I don't care to answer 10 minutes later when she takes a break. So yeah, often I'm "quiet" today because I know I'm being talked at and not to.

my dnd party has run into an npc who may or may not be evil and may or may not decide to betray us and the dm was in chat today like “just so everyone knows…not addressing this comment at anyone in particular…his favorite colors are red and black…wink” so now i’m desperately trying to get a real physical friendship bracelet done before session tomorrow in the vain hope that i can somehow stop this npc from trying to do a murder on my party
UPDATE: the npc was in fact a shapechanged adult black dragon with violence and conquest in his heart. however he did let merry put a friendship bracelet on him and then when she was like “hm okay how big is your wrist in dragon form” he was like “you wanna see?” and then turned into a dragon and let merry measure him for a second, dragon-sized friendship bracelet. the dm described him afterwards as being deeply confused as to why he did this or let any of this happen to him. call that the merry effect
this guy is now a recurring npc because merry was SO determined to make him her friend that it actually somehow worked. he cast dream to talk to one of my party members like “hey…how’s it going…how are the tieflings in the party…not that i care…also i’m not lonely. bye” and the player was like “is he still wearing merry’s friendship bracelet in this dream” and the dm was like “yeah…”

so merry taught naeric (the dragon) the power of love, obviously, and because his heart was open and beautiful he started dating…a SECOND evil dragon. and then that gf betrayed him and cast ninth level imprisonment on him so now naeric is our damsel in distress and we have to save him from his girlfriend, the actual villain. how the turntables…
and. in the most horrible plot twist of all. the gf stole his friendship bracelet.
I didn't know we were getting to boop again! I didn't refesh the page before scrolling so I didn't see the counter and was confused why we were all talking about boops again.
