This is in reply to him coming out to his grandpa. Big Eden is a lovely romcom about two men in a small town where everyone is just lovely and welcoming. You should watch it.

I would like to gently clarify that this scene actually takes place before Henry is officially out to his grandpa. The grandfather knows his grandson (Henry) is gay and has known for a long time (and during the events of the movie he actually tries very hard to sneakily help Henry’s love interest court him.)

The grandfather also knows that Henry is out to almost everyone in his life EXCEPT him. So this scene is the grandpa both addressing the (fear of) rejection Henry wrestles with during the film and, more importantly, trying to make it clear to Henry that it’s safe to be out to him and he’s sorry if he ever made Henry feel like he couldn’t be.
