unpopular opinion probably but I actually like that ao3 doesn’t let people take back their kudos.

unlike social media platforms (which ao3 is not) where people unlike stuff whenever they think or find out the original posters’ moral compass doesn’t perfectly align with their own’s or whatever, and “likes” can be taken back at any time, ao3 treats kudos as something sacred. once you give it, it’s the author’s to keep forever.

Best part is if someone deletes their account, the kudos remains, and it just gets swapped over to a guest kudos instead. The body is gone but the love remains.

to be clear, I believe younger artists and minors can write good fics (not to say “fanfic must always be good” either because it is a hobby and I still believe that as long as it’s done with love and the artist’s joy, it is good) and I believe it’s good when younger artists and minors start making art at young ages.

that said, a lot of fanfics out there that you read and love are done by adults with kids, jobs and responsibilities. adults who have years, decades of practice under their belts. adults who don’t let life and responsibilities take away their joy in creating.

someone’s love and passion don’t suddenly go away the second they reach a certain age. so if anything, I feel sorry for people who say “adults shouldn’t write fanfics or make fan art” because what these people really say is that they expect themselves to stop having fun and finding comfort in things that bring them joy and comfort the second they reach a certain age. it’s sad that they put an expiration date on their own fun and source of comfort.

The Greek prefix for "hand" is "chiro", so perhaps it is a chirocephalic pentapod, or maybe a pentapodactyl cephalochiroid?

@elodieunderglass I'm curious how you pronounce "Cephalopharyngeal" - my instinct is to pronounce the opening as a dactyl, like in "cephalopod", i.e. "SEF-uh-lo", but the scansion of that line feels better to me if it's an amphibrach, i.e. "suh-FAL-lo"

This short story by Junji Ito is about a fault that appears in Amigara mountain after an earthquake. The earthquake exposes countless human-shaped holes in the mountain which seem to have been made about a thousand years ago. People, intrigued by these silhouettes, gather at the site and that’s when things get creepy.

my personal opinion on the usage of it, whether or not I agree with it and the ethical aspect of it asides, it’s no different than asking a human beta reader for help — if you’re not saying your human-made fic, that has been beta read by a human beta reader, is written by your human beta reader just because said human beta reader helped you with grammar, typos, sentence structure and such, then a human-made fic is still human-made and written by a human, even though ai helps it with grammar, typos, sentence structure and such.

if someone tags their fic as “ai-generated”, I will assume they mean their fic was written from start to finish entirely by ai. I don’t agree with their choice to let ai write for them, but what they do with their hobby is not my business. and I’ll never condone harassment.

if someone asks ai to help their human-made fic with grammar, typos, sentence structure and such, then I don’t expect them to tag their fic as ai-generated. even if I may not necessarily agree with their choice to ask ai for help with their human-made fic, what they do with their hobby is none of my business. and I’ll never condone harassment.

I know this is probably a controversial opinion. and I’m still not a fan of ai fics. but what other people do with their hobbies is really not my business. and overall what I said in the first two paragraphs is still what I personally believe counts as human-made and what counts as ai-generated fics. again, just my personal opinion.
