This is highly shareable because of the controversy it includes. We have a privileged Olympic athlete that took complete advantage of his situation.  Not to mention his race. 

Participation in this campaign not only shows how Lochte is a douche, but shows how media exploits his escapade. 

This is totally authenticated by the media outlet and the owners of NBC. They have created this and made into the world headline it is today. 

Anything these days related to the Olympics will travel fast globally. Social media has torn Lochte and the US to shreds with this.  

The kick here is that it’s a white male.  If this was Gabby Douglas, there would be complete outrage.  Now all we see are social media posts poking fun of the situation.

Why I think this video has viral SPARK

This was extremely shareable on Facebook, especially.  Given the recent craze over Pokemon, everyone could relate. I also have a big circle of women that enjoy wine in my life. 

This video may or may not have caused people I know to hide glasses of wine in their yard and have a Chardonnay Go party.   

The fact that every news outlet has shared this viral video explains it’s credibility. It’s authentic. 

This reached the masses as quickly as Pokemon Go! Who wouldn’t laugh at a mom running through her neighborhood drinking random glasses of wine and freaking out her neighbors?

The “kick” was the humor and originality.  This woman was probably going through her Facebook feed and seeing all these posts about Pokemon Go and all the crazy people ditching life and collecting virtual animals.  She thought, I could do this with wine! Moms love wine.

I picked Eklund here because of his dedication to the game of hockey.  He is also fun to follow.  His posts about his kids and his dog (Buzz) bring you into his world.  In the hockey world he has many followers eagerly awaiting the breaking news from the rumor mill.  I could honestly say even without rumor ratings, I could tell when Eklund has a solid lead on something brewing.  My friend and I always debate who has the most reliable rumors and Eklund is always in that conversation.  At 249,000 followers, he must be doing something right.  

What surprises me the most is his ability to stay even keeled when it comes to the Flyers.  As a Rangers fan myself, I could see the bias if it existed. It’s not there. I respect his opinions and the news he reports. 

Just today Eklund was reporting on the abrupt exit of the head coach of Colorado, Patrick Roy.  He also tweeted this (https://twitter.com/Eklund/status/763814813323685888) this afternoon.  It’s a bold statement considering QC was not given a team.  Is something in the works for QC? You bet! I think a team will relocate and it will be Arizona.

Challenged

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was the first groundswell that I participated in.  I used to think those videos meant nothing. But the difference here was the challenge.  Friends of friends on Facebook were posting their videos, and you knew eventually it would be your turn.  When my number was called, I didn’t hesitate.  I wasn’t going to let my friends down and my attention was drawn to the power of this.  Not only did I dump a bucket of ice water on my head, but I donated as well.  It was an impulse, yet felt right.  Part of the fun was creating the video and who was going to film it.  Everyone was doing it, and rightfully so. This challenge raised not only money for research, but more importantly raised awareness for an incurable disease.

Saving The Game

In recent years America’s Pastime has dipped in popularity. The core fan right now was just growing up in the 1970′s and 1980′s.  It’s now 2014 and these fans are aging.  These fans are having kids of their own.  This next generation of fan is connected to the game like none other.  Media coverage of the game is at an all-time high and what better way to connect with young fans on the fringe than social media? 

Marketing to this next generation fan via social media might actually be easier than we think.  The question is, what platform do we base this campaign on? The objective here is to connect to the fan that will bridge fandom to future generations.  Without this young enthusiastic fan, baseball could continue to fall. 

I am proposing that we use hashtags as way to have fans young and old share their baseball experience.  Social media has reached a point where every generation is connected.  Even Grandma is posting on Facebook.  By using hashtag #THIS, we can show MLB players in the natural state. Whether it be before a game, during batting practice or even walking to their car and signing autographs.  It shows fans that these larger than life ball players are relatable. You can connect to the game, simply by using a hashtag.  

Not only will fans be using social media, but MLB has the ability to post a promo worldwide.  The hashtag is not something you target, the hashtag has no boundary, it’s something that you spread and watch it grow.

Native vs Immigrant, Digital

In trying to decide whether one is an immigrant or native digital user, I find myself stuck in the middle. As a consumer, I am at the forefront of technology yet I struggle with creating my own.  If only I could write code.  I am sure that with some effort I could learn such ability, but why? Mobile technology is incredibly easy.  Everyday applications are simplified with gadgets.  So at my age of 35, I have seen the days of CDs and VHS.  I have also used a flip phone. Given my brief experience with life before the tech boom, I would have to consider myself a digital native.  I feel like those even a few years older (and younger) than me would lean to the contrary, but things had changed quite rapidly from 2000-2007.  Even now keeping up with our digital world can be daunting.  Just to keep up with current trends, you need to lean on the digital world and social media.  Staying connected is almost key to survival. #NECnative
