99. Magical Accidents and 32. Pregnancy fic from this thing
The you mean the one where Kara eats what she thought was an apple at the DEO, only it wasn’t an apple, but something that makes her pregnant.
Yeah. that's what I said.
The fic will start with Alex confirming it- Kara’s been feeling off for weeks and it turns out WHOOPS (“Kara what have I told you about eating strange foods!?!?”). Naturally, it comes as quite a shock. Alex tests it 3 more times before she’s sure and Kara- well- Kara calls Lena.
Lena looks at the 30 board members sitting around the LCorp conference, waiting on her. “I’ll be right there.”
At the DEO, Alex and Lena talk Science for a long time, while Kara looks up important things on her phone like “Can babies really hear music if you put your headphones on your tummy?”. At the end of it, Alex says it is the way it is and, “Well…er… the real question is do you want to, uh, stay pregnant? Like actually have this baby?”
In a move that will be heavily scrutinized in years to come, Kara instinctually looks to Lena, her best friend, for an answer. Lena, who is completely taken aback by this considering her supermassive crush on Kara is completely unrequited, just kind of sputters. “It’s up to you Kara.”
Kara nods, thinks for a second, and then is like “I am having this baby.”
What ensues after this is basically Kara going about doing all the Preparing to Have a Baby activities, but continually asking/dragging Lena to them.
“I don’t know the first thing about children- I’m not even sure I was one!” Lena continues to say as Kara brings to the Mall to create a baby shower registry.
“Should I get the the onesie that makes them look like a baby elephant or a baby lion?” Kara presses on, with 100% denial that this is Significantly Weird to treat your best friend like the future co-parent of your child.
And that’s the other problem Lena is having. Kara, who has always been a stone cold HUNK, is now…
God how is she hotter?
Those cut lines soften, hard edges go round, and Lena’s 100% lesbian soul has found a whole new Type apparently. Everything kind of plumps, becomes soft and inviting and touchable, and it doesn’t help that Kara seems 100% more affectionate in this new highly hormonal state. Everything is ‘will you please cuddle under a blanket with me?’ or ‘want to touch my tummy?’ or ‘can you help me put lotion on my back? I can’t reach and it’s so itchy.’
And Lena does. Lord help her emotionally masochistic heart, she does, and it’s torture. There’s one night, 7 months in, things cross a line.
It was a hard week for Lena. On top of work ridiculousness, it’s the anniversary of Lex’s trial, and the week before the anniversary of Lillian’s. So maybe she’s treating herself to some wine during their weekly-going on three times a week movie night with Kara. Maybe a little too much wine, because in the blue light of the TV, warm and cozy under the blanket on the couch, things go a little too far.
“Ooo, they’re kicking again,” Kara shifts at the sensation. “Wanna feel?”
“Mmm,” Lena nods, head on Kara’s left shoulder. She sets her glass aside and reaches across them both to do just that.
Lena loves Kara's body like this. Like a lot. Hard abs are all well and good but there’s something about softness that draws her in. Kara’s shirt has rucked up under the blanket so instead of tank top, Lena is surprised to touch skin when her hand slides near Kara’s belly button.
“More like over here,” Kara places her hand on Lena’s and guides it closer to her right side. Lena has to stretch a little further to reach it, leaning over Kara’s body a little to do so.
“Feel it?- wait, it stopped. Ugh, again!” Kara rolls her eyes, tosses her hands to the side in defeat. This has been an annoying ongoing Thing- by the time Lena gets there, the little one stops kicking. She misses it.
“Next time,” but then Lena realizes her current positioning. She’s leaning over Kara, breasts pressed against Kara’s swollen ones, nearly in her lap. She goes to move her hand away first, but Kara catches it again. “Your hands are cold. It feels nice. I’ve been burning up.”
“Oh,” and Lena feels like she’s burning up as well. From this close she can see the little indent Kara’s glasses make where cheeks have gotten just a little bit chubby. She can feel Kara’s thigh against hers, strong muscle with a little plush edge to it. It would be so easy, SO easy just to throw that leg over, to move the rest of the way and straddle Kara’s lap. Lena looks at the hand Kara’s captured, the one pressed between her body and her own. “Did you… “
“I just feels nice. Being touched,” Kara sighs, closes her eyes, content.
“Oh. Good.” Lena’s about to try a retreat again but then the hand covering hers starts to move them both. Like some sort of terribly erotic Ouija board, Kara guides Lena’s palm, starting to smooth a slow circle over the soft shape of Kara’s stomach.
“Mmm,” Kara hums, the vibration catching Lena far below the belt. “Feels so nice.”
Lena has to stop this, has to, but she’s caught in a trance- watching Kara’s expression of pleasure, feeling Kara’s body under her palm. At the apex of her belly, Kara’s hand gets too close, Lena’s pinky finger grazing the underside of her breast and the sound Kara makes is very, very close to a moan.
Lena yanks her hand back so hard Kara startles, eyes shooting open.
“Sorry- I- you want some popcorn?” She reaches for the empty (whoops) bowl on the coffee table. “I can make some.”
Kara is staring at her eyes fuzzy like she’s just woken, trying to tell dream from reality. “Uh, sure.”
Lena gets up to make popcorn and has to stand in the kitchen for 4 full minutes realizing just how embarrassingly wet she is from the encounter. She makes an excuse shortly after, early meeting, early squash game, she doesn't even remember- but she’s gone before the hot buttered kernels have even cooled.
She doesn’t come to Game Night the next day. Or for La Maz on Tuesday. Kara calls, texts, but after 3 more days of silence, she waddles her way to the LCorp lobby, and up to the top floor.
There’s a “why are you avoiding me” and a denial, and a rebuttal. It gets heated until,
“You can’t just disappear on me like this- I need you Lena!”
“I AM NOT YOUR WIFE!”
Kara blinks at that. It feels like a non sequitur. “I never said you were.”
“Yeah but you treat me like I am,” and the tears are right at the gate now. “With all your nice words and your caresses and I’m the one you’ve had come to all the baby things, the check ups even, and you talk about what color ‘we’ should paint the nursery…”
“I thought, that’s what best friends do, right?”
“Maybe. Truthfully, I wouldn’t know.” Lena says. “Maybe the problem is just that for me, you’re not just my best friend.”
Kara frowns, truly lost now. “What?”
The time is now, Lena's crumbling if she doesn’t say something. So she finally does. “I’m in love with you Kara. I have been, for a long time now. So it’s been hard to… to separate those things, when you’ve been treating me like a partner. I don’t think I can keep going like this. I’m sorry.”
Kara’s eyes go wide like saucers. “Holy crap…”
Worst case scenario- Kara is upset. She’s angry, she feels duped, lord Lena’s fucked it all up. “Listen, just forget it I never should have-”
“-No, Lena, I think my water just broke.” She smiles, lip trembling with emotion. “I think I’m having the baby.”
There’s a mad dash to the hospital, frantic calls to Alex, Eliza, everyone- while Lena’s driving like a Russian cabbie. No one is there yet when they pull up and Lena is telling Kara that as they put her on the gurney. “I’m sorry you don’t have anyone here yet I-”
“I have you.” Kara says, then. “Don’t I?”
Lena glups, stares right back and finally, “Yeah. You do.”
She goes into the room with Kara, holds her hand through contractions, it’s all very emotional. And when they hand the baby to a freshly crying Kara, Lena is right there, crying tears of joy beside her. They separate and clean everyone up, let them rest and a frazzled Lena meets Alex outside the hospital room.
There they have a heart to heart. Lena says she doesn't want to go in, to face what she confessed. Alex rolls her eyes and says Lena might be acting dumb, but Kara is DUMBER. Kara is clearly in love with her too- she just skipped the dating stage and decided to go straight for the 3rd Wedding Anniversary/First Child stage.
It takes some convincing but eventually Lena goes in, Kara’s eyes flicker open, she grins at the sight of Lena. “Hi.”
“Hi.”
Baby Danvers is in the pram in the corner, snoozing, so it’s with hushed voices that they hash it out. Kara says she’s been dumb, and doesn’t know why she didn’t see what they were sooner. “It was just so good, so easy, I guess i just…”
“Skipped to the good part.”
“Yeah,” Kara looks sheepish. “So,” she starts. “Uh, how do you feel about dating single mom’s?”
Lena covers Kara’s hand with her own. “I don’t really know any. Do you?”
I was always framed by someone else. It wasn’t until Lillian told me the truth, that I realized I hadn’t been living my own life. Finally, now I am. And it feels amazing.
