I don’t think being villainous or having an undercurrent of a wounded, toxically masculine ego behind his desperation precludes spamton from being trans. like. There are plenty of trans men who project their own warped views of masculinity onto others who have a healthier outlook on what it means to be a man (or even just on gender in general). Also, simply from a storytelling and writing point of view, if characters are presumed to be cis by default, why would a writer go out of their way to include multiple parallels and connections to at least two other characters who are trans coded just to say “this salesman character who constantly shits out eggs is definitely cis”?

I've seen too many people discounting it because of the Weird Route which isn't the only canon, and which actively discourages, if not outright punishes you (and others—Spamton also) for playing. Ah yes this side of the media that is actively called the Weird Route, where we are clearly meant to see the truth of the character (and why the character is unlikely to be forgiven—and what could that be saying about trans men!?! the answer is nothing btw because it's a story about the cycles of abuse and vulnerability and responsibility and abandonment Frankenstein-style), and not a twisted, fucked up warped, weird version. Like okay.

Okay, sure . Yeah. I don't know. Why are we assuming this quality speaks to trans men rather than the responsibility we share for one another, how the vulnerable are more susceptible to isolation and abuse, and how the fault is shared, actually. Spamton slipped through the cracks, there was no safety net, he was shoved aside, picked on, abused, sometimes for money, and we're still going "What does his attitude of stepping on others and toxic masculinity and freedom as power imply for trans men?" I think it implies that people who are hurt may hurt others for a shred of control in a life that has afforded them none, and I think it implies that things don't have to be that way, and I think it says that when we support people, we can grow to be better than we were. I think it says it isn't too late, even if you've fucked it all up.

I think it says that running from yourself will make you the worst version of yourself but that you can turn around and face it anytime. I think that the Weird Route shows us how violence feeds violence, I think it says that when we uphold these systems, we hurt everyone, even ourselves, through our insistence against change, but when we are actively being hurt, we may lock ourselves in. How do you heal when you're constantly being wounded? Spamton makes himself bigger to hide his vulnerability, which has always been punished. He puts layers on just to live in the world. But in the normal route, when he loses that one final time, he gets to change and start to heal, even if it's difficult.

The fact that his capacity for evil is taken as somehow being against the trans Spamton narrative doesn't make any sense to me. Everyone is capable. He upholds it because you are all locking each other into a cycle of brutality and violence. You're locked in. He's stuck in survival. He's scraping by and he's such a shit in WR because that's all it really allows him to be. It's literally "kill or be killed".

hey it’s the anon from yesterday. last rant I promise lol. So the post I paraphrased referenced: “Tenna’s not too keen on that behavior. It reminds him of a certain… y’know.” The OP said this dialogue explains why Tenna hates the pippins (saying he associates dishonest behavior with Spamton). but imo this implies that at worst, bse Spamton was an incompetent loser who sucked at Tenna’s games and couldn’t swindle him if he wanted to (reminds me of the Spamton dialogue from the sweepstakes about losing against Jevil - “even if I cheated (theoretically)” he never won against him once).

“Spamton ruined everyone in TV World’s lives” came from a comment in the tags where I found it. What I really took issue with in the OG post is that they said Ramb’s dialogue “inherently acknowledges” a personality change on Tenna’s part and that he only started getting strict with contracts after apparently being swindled by Spamton through “unequal business transactions.” I don’t know what they’re referring to besides the fact that Tenna doesn’t understand new technology? Tenna losing his “digital currency” lol?

Anyways imo this is the other side of the coin where people paint Tenna as a pure innocent little meow meow, which is honestly so boring (and flat out incorrect). The purple cliffs shuttah dialogue (“children of Tenna’s contract”) directly contradicts the OP’s point by implying he was like that before Spamton entered the picture, no? “Sinister types” in the shadowguy’s enemy description also alludes to him. Tenna is a genuine sweetheart and a little naive, sure, but that doesn’t mean he can’t also be kind of a prick. he has taken advantage of others and i don’t think it’s all because of Spamton. Like that aspect of his character makes him compelling and three dimensional!! Why can’t they see that. It’s almost robbing him of any agency. like every time Tenna says “How is it MY fault?!” theyre unironically like “yeah go off king”

ooohh i see... tbh i always thought the point of that dialogue existing is less to say something about spamton himself and more to indicate how much tenna does not shut up about spamton to others. and also how much of his mentions of him r shit talking bc thats how he copes with the mountain of guilt he feels. it also could be about him just sucking at games ofc. so im amazed that somehow someone used it to claim that spamton actually did ruin everything

i have no idea how i stumbled on this blog bc i don't even know your main, and i hope asks like this are okay (if not i apologize), but i just wanted to thank you for your good spamton/ spamtenna takes because now i feel slightly more sane lol. the side of the fandom that characterizes spamton as evil cis mettaton who "ruined tv world" (because of ramb's z-rank dialogue, apparently) is so baffling to me. i think my last straw was seeing fanart of spamton tightening a corset(?) around tenna to the point of pain on one side, contrasted with mettaton on the other side saying something to the effect of "you don't need to change your body for me baby uwu". like who is this person. why would he have acted that way if "their smiles seemed so bright". why would tenna want him to sign a contract that would keep them together if he was actively ruining tv world. how did he even ruin tv world. why does he care about tennas waistline so much. isn't he obsessed with "big" things anyway. arrrggghhhh lmaooo
