ADHD is.....
Yes, ADHD can look like what the world thinks it looks like. It can look like forgetfulness, hyperactivity, and silliness. But it goes far deeper than these three traits.
RSD - Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria
I’ve only recently learned this term, but it’s a concept I’ve been all too familiar with throughout my life. When you ask a friend to hang out, and they tell you they’re busy. The rumination that stems from that simple, “I’m busy”. When you go a few days without hearing from someone. Have you done something to upset them? Are they mad at you? You can’t put your finger on it, but you feel like it’s something you did. To remedy this, you become clingy. You do everything within your power to ensure that your favorite people don’t get upset with you. But for some reason, there’s that nagging feeling. It never leaves. You feel like a constant burden. It fucking sucks.
Executive Dysfunction
Yes, you know you have to do that assignment. Yes, you know how to do it. But you would much rather lay in bed and watch tv all day. It’s not that you don’t understand it. You just can’t find the motivation. If your brain would allow you to sit down and focus, this would be a breeze.
Overly emotional
I know that annoying sound should only be a mild inconvenience. But it’s interrupting my entire day. I can’t focus with that sound. It may be small, but it’s loud to me, and I need it to stop. That’s why it makes me so upset.
ADHD is a spectrum and it’s so complex. When we exhibit these traits, it’s not a testament to who you are, but please try to have patience with us. We’re trying our hardest. Sometimes, our brain simply isn’t kind.
