“Honestly, I don’t really know,” she sighed, turning away from the store and at him. “I’m just hoping to find something to give my daughter and grandkids. But I’ve been gone so long I figured it needed to be something extra special but I’m just not sure what.” Tara sighed, laughing a bit at the end. “I’ve always been bad at Christmas shopping, honestly.”
"Can I just say that you do not look old enough to be a grandmother? You are far too beautiful to be a grandmother." He questioned, looking over at her for a moment. "You really don't." He thought about it for a moment. "Maybe I can help somehow?" He offered. Honestly he knew nothing about children but he was at least going to try and help her.

“I uh, didn’t mean to be in the way..” She told him before getting up.
“You’re fine..never really in my way.” He told her. “Michelle..”
Letters From War || Closed
Dear Michelle,
Usually someone should start a letter by saying hi and you know that its crap because of everything that is happening here. But I will say that, I do miss you. You are the one reason that I look forward to going home but its getting harder to leave each time. I hate leaving you and my family behind but this is what I have to do. This place is where I belong at least for now. Its hot here, that still hasn’t changed. To be honest I’m a little bit worried and scared because I know what this letter is. I hate writing this but it has to be done and we both know why. I can’t take the chance that something is going to happen to me and leave you wondering what that was. I’m watching people that I care about be here one minute and gone the next. Leaving their loved ones to wonder what happened and I don’t want to do that to you. Because of how much I love you and how much I care about you. That is why I can’t do that to you. You mean more to me than what you know or realize, Michelle.
I hate writing this letter, I really do. It hurts knowing that I have too but its better this way. I’m just trying to protect you from that pain. The pain of something happening to me and you not knowing. We’ve been together for six years now and I know how hard it is for you to be away from me, much like its hard on me to be away from you. But just know that I’m going to fight like hell to come back to you. Even if when and if I do come back in one piece, and we aren’t together, just friends thats fine. Just know that I do love you and that I do care about which is why I’m doing this. Writing this to you is not easy, Michelle. You have to know this and believe it because its the truth. Honestly, I don’t want to be writing this letter but its best if I do. I hate myself for having too.
So…I guess this is it. You are free to date whom ever you want to now. But just remember no matter what happens that I do love you, Michelle and I will do my best to come home to you. Also, inside of this letter is a pair of my dog tags that I want you to have. You can throw them away if you want or keep them. Your choice.
Love,
Landon Greene
Folding up the letter, he placed it inside of envelope before licking it closed. Writing Michelle’s name on it, he moved out of the tent and over to the man that was picking up the mall. “Make sure this gets out first thing.” Watching the man nod his head, Landon thanked him before returning to his tent. Laying down on his cot, he closed his eyes, regretting instantly about sending Michelle that letter. But it needed to be done and he was doing this to protect her. Just in case something did happen to him. He had to remind himself of this. It was hard and it hurt like hell because he did still love her and he probably always would.
“I’m sorry, but what did you just say?” She asked after looking up from her phone. @secretsummerstarters
“Oh umm--just wanted to get by.” Landon felt awkward and he hated it. “I’m sorry.”
tara-everxtt:
“Really?” Tara asked, looking between him and the window for a few seconds. “That’s a shame. It looks like it would have some good ideas.”
"I thought the same thing but I was clearly wrong." He chuckled a little bit. "But it's totally up to you if you want to go in or not."

Tara had a lot of extra free time on her hands now that she had put in her retirement paperwork so she figured she would go shopping for Christmas gifts. She wasn’t sure what she was going to get yet for anyone, but browsing didn’t hurt. She was looking in one of the shop windows when she spotted someone coming out of the corner of her eye. “Am I in your way?” she asked, getting ready to step out of the way for them.
Landon hadn't even realize that Christmas would be soon, until he saw the festival and such going on. He was just browsing the shop. Coming out, that was when he seen her, taking off his sunglass this way he wouldn’t be rude or anything like. “No you aren’t. But I can tell you there isn’t much in there.”

→ Background
Landon Greene was the pride and joy of Baberton at one time. A top student, star athlete, volunteer worker, and all around good citizen all throughout his high school days. Of course, he did party it up like all teenagers do, but he was never one to do anything too stupid or get himself in trouble. Everyone expected him to end up becoming a doctor or a lawyer or something, but he ended up following the ambition he had been harboring since he was a child: to be a soldier just like his grandfather.
When Landon was a kid, he would spend hours sitting with his grandfather in his den, reliving his stories of his days spent fighting in World War II. Though of course, he didn’t teach Landon that war was a grand and glorious adventure. No, he told Landon all about how horrific it was, but that it still had to be done because it was right to go and free people from oppression. Ever since then, all Landon ever wanted to do was take up that noble cause.
Landon joined up with the armed forces right out of high school. Two year later, he was deployed to Afghanistan. He spent the next eight years mostly away from home, sometimes on base and sometimes right in the thick of everything there. Of course, he did have a few leaves here and there, but he always returned to the field eventually. He would write home, telling his family not to worry because he was doing what he wanted to do and he was being as careful as a soldier possibly could be. Above all, he never forgot what his grandfather told him about always telling people he loved them, just in case he never got another chance.
Then one day, around about the time of Annie Pierce’s disappearance, Landon suddenly returned home. He just said that he was on leave and would be staying home for a while. No one asked many questions, but it was obvious to everyone that Landon wasn’t the same as the golden boy that had left town 10 years ago. For reasons only he knew, he was a changed man.
→ Back to Baberton
Annie was only a small child still when Landon left home. He didn’t know her well, but he knew her family. Everyone in this town tended to know everyone on their street or in the neighbouring ones after all. And from what he did know of her, she wasn’t truly a horrible kid. But that was when she was still a more or less innocent eight year old, just a bit younger than his own little brother, Dylan. Upon returning and finding out she had disappeared, Landon was curious, but didn’t think much of it. Two years later when her body was found, he was shocked. Who would have killed an innocent teenager? He wants to see the person found and brought to justice and is willing to help out the cops in anyway. After all, isn’t that why he joined the army? To defend, avenge, and protect the innocent?
Otherwise, Landon seems to be leading a normal life back in Baberton. He’s living in his family home once again, something his brother seems to find amusing, and trying to catch up with the folks in town. The fact that he is acting so normally has some people a bit curious though. Landon has been on leave before, but they’ve never lasted this long and he’s never acted like he would be home with any degree of permanency. He never showed an interesting in staying indefinitely either. What happened while he was away to change him so much?
→ What’s His Secret?
While he was in Afghanistan, Landon witnessed one of the guys he’d been stationed with and become good friends with get shot in the back of the neck. His friend ended up dying in Landon’s arms. No matter how hard he tries, Landon can never shake that memory. This was a trigger that lead to Landon developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and was the major reason was he was put on leave.
Landon is afraid to have to go back into the field. He doesn’t want to witness anymore death like that. He knows that eventually, they will call him back. But until then, Landon is willing to do just about anything to prolong that event as much as possible, even if it means avoiding his treatment so that he is still deemed not fit for service.
Is still in love with his high school girlfriend Michelle Allen. He broke up with her in a letter when he went off to fight because he wanted to set her free, let her move on, in case something happened to him. He didn’t want her to sit at home and wait for him. Since he’s been back he’s tried to see her many times but she always evades him. He understands, of course, but he’s like a chance to clear the air.
