theodorepuckerman:
It had taken everything he had to attempt to stay calm ; counting hours, pacing back and forth, and continuous attempts of reassuring himself that everything was going to be okay, but nothing had seemed to work. He’d soon lost count of how long they’d been stuck in the Cigar shop after the first twelve hours, and the longer he spent thinking about the possibilities of what could happen, the more anxious he began to feel.
Theodore had sat hoping that it had all been a dream, and perhaps he’d wake up to find that the last few hours, days even were nothing but a nightmare. The following hours were nothing but a blur, what had left him feeling anxious, had soon left him reeling from boredom, and the mere thought of whether his loved ones were okay, or not - hopefully the former. When the already overcrowded shop, was added with more of those who were stranded, the atmosphere changed completely. So when their attention was directed towards the sister of his boyfriend, Theodore refrained from opening his mouth, but instead made his way over towards her - bottle of water in hand, “Here.” He spoke before moving to take a seat beside her.
Lanette looked between Theo and the bottle he was offering her, her lips pursed. She was still for a moment, before she reached up and took it from him. “Thanks,” She muttered, a small crease forming between her brows. She toyed with the bottle in her hands, not yet making a move to open it. Only really paying much mind to the bottle itself as Theo sat down next to her.
It was quiet for a moment before she spoke again. “Men are the worst,” She said, her expression unchanging. The square of shoulders didn’t leave much room for argument. With her features mostly schooled, Lanette unscrewed the bottle top, hesitating a second, glaring at the men across the room from her, before taking a sip.

Lanette: When this is all over I'm gonna have a long, hot shower. You can join me if you want.
[ MESSAGE NOT DELIVERED ]
We have been stuck here for a few days and supplies are running extremely low. Do you think they will do another supply drop, because with the addition of those four men, the food will be gone by tomorrow, and I don’t know about you, but dying of starvation has never been on my list of preferred ways to die.
It takes a month to die of starvation. I think you’ll be okay, beef jocky.

Lanette pulled her arms around herself irritatedly, not wanting to let on how cold she felt. Her lips were pursed and her brows were drawn together, void of much expression. She’d been more or less silent for the duration of this storm, thinking dismissively of it, but the longer it went on, the more anxious she was beginning to feel. Especially considering the group of older men that had joined them a few hours ago.
She’d never admit it, of course, but she was worried. She couldn’t help it -- Cotton Plant was a small place -- and it's population was fairly concentrated with people she knew; not knowing who someone was, was a bit of a red flag. With the way some of those men were ogling her, she felt a lot less secure than she’d like. “You should smile, sweetheart.” One of the men said to her, making her tense up, before moving across to the other side of the room and sitting down next to someone else. Talking tended to get her in trouble in these types of situations. So, she decided for once to keep her mouth shut. In lieu of wringing her hands, Lanette began pushing down the skin on her cuticles absent-mindedly, not making much of an effort to talk to the person who’s space she’d just intruded.
As soon as it was clear that all of Cotton Plant was on lockdown, Brielle knew that they were in trouble. The skies were dark and the roads were most definitely not safe to drive on, so there was absolutely no way that she could make it home. She ran towards the nearest store to her and closed the door behind her and took in a deep breath. It’s okay, she told herself. And just like that, she thought of all the people that she loved – Cameron, Bailey, Athena, Charlotte, Ashley and her mom. There was so many people that she felt like she needed to know where they were and if they were okay that she felt as if there was a weight on her chest. “Oh, God,” She sighed shakily – pulling her phone out of her back jeans pocket. It looked as if there was no service, but she tried to text Cameron anyway. Her hands were shaking and she couldn’t type much.. she just needed to know that he was okay. That her family was okay.
As much as she knew that she needed to have everything together, she couldn’t. Tears threatened to fall and she didn’t know what to do with herself. That was until she saw everyone who was stuck in the store with her, and she knew she had to put on a brave face. “Hey, guys!” She greeted, a bright (yet fake, which wasn’t often for her) smile on her face. “I know this is really scary right now, but look at this – we have our emergency kits and that’s what’s important.” She paused for a moment, and let out a short sigh. “I know we’re all worried about our family and loved ones right now, but all we can do right now is make sure that we’re okay and healthy. I think right now we should stay away from all of the windows and possibly try to find the back room and stay in there, maybe?” She shrugged. “We also should probably not eat too much, unless we really need to.” Brielle bit her lip nervously, but then smiled her smile once more. “We’ll be okay. Everyone will be okay.”
Lanette wriggled a little, readjusting her body against the wall she’d been leaning on as Brie came rushing into the shop. Everyone around her seemed shaken, to say the least, but she was trying not feel particularly scared. If anything, she was channeling the nervous energy she felt into being irritated about having to spend a prolonged time in this cramped space.
It was already teetering on being painful before Brie walked in, but adding an ex (that Lanette had gone out of her way not to have to talk to these last few years, mind you) to the mix, certainly complicated things. “Thanks for the PSA,” Lanette replied offhandedly, not enough edge in her voice to make the comment biting. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, and peered out the small window to her left to preoccupy herself.

Lanette: Is it?
Lanette: Too many Claringtons.
LASAGNA || NIKNATTE F2F
NIKO: She looked at Lanette incredulously, "You act as if I'm incapable of caring for myself." Which, given the situation they were in, was actually true. Really Niko knew that if it wasn't for the sheer fact that it was frowned upon she'd probably still be at home, bickering with her parents while hoping they helped her out the best they could. It wasn't that she wasn't good at taking care of things, she just wasn't the best. "Why is it a smoothie /bowl/ if it's basically just a smoothie?" She mumbled, slipping off the counter and walking over to her fridge to pull the stuff out. "Completely pointless to add an extra word."
LANETTE: Lanette rose her brow at Niko's incredulity, the corner of her smile bent up slightly in amusement. "Hmmm." She hummed faux-thoughtfully, "And /how many/ pre-made lasagnas have you burnt through, tonight, exactly?" She asked, remaining composed. Lanette pulled a chopping board out from one of Niko's kitchen drawers and placed it neatly on the bench-top. She began roughly chopping the fruit Niko had handed her, smiling privately as Niko mumbled under her breath. "If you're going to critique the recipe you could at least open your mouth the whole way to do it." She commented matter-of-factly, schooling her features slightly.

Rowan: Yeah yeah, he was a good kisser tho so it was ok, but def wasn't take home material
Rowan: So how was your Halloween? I don't remember seeing you but I also don't really remember much about from that night tbh
Lanette: Anyone ever tell you your standards are low?
Lanette: Fine, Boring. I stayed at Brinkley. The college parties were uneventful.

HUNTER
Hunter jumped away from the cupboard when she yelled out, his eyes going comically wide as he held his hands up in surrender. “O-kay.” He said slowly, side-stepping around Lanette to take a seat on the stool and then going on to sit with both elbows on the island in front of him with his chin resting in his palms, still looking like the smug little shit he is all the while. “So…how’s the wife? How are the kids?” He asked, letting out a big yawn without bothering to cover his mouth as he looked around the kitchen.
LANETTE
Lanette seemed to deflate slightly as Hunter made light of her anger, huffing as she pulled open the cutlery drawer. She shuffled through its organised contents, pulling out two soup spoons and forks, as well as a pair of disposable chopsticks before turning back around. “Sorry,” She muttered, placing the handful of silverware noisily on the island’s bench-top. Lanette pulled the chopsticks out from their packaging as Hunter spoke, and broke them apart. “Huh?” She offered, scrunching her brow.

Rowan: I would like to think so too, but I know I would've definitely done it given the chances, especially because his face was cute
Rowan: Ha, that sounds about right
Lanette: No one with a rat's tail is cute. He could've picked any hairstyle and he /chose/ that. Who knows what kind of choices he might make if you took him home.
Lanette: I'm just glad no one tested me.

HUNTER
Hunter marched himself in to Lanette’s apartment until he stood in the middle of the room and did a slow turn as he inspected his surroundings, letting out a quiet whistle as he took it all in. He dropped the bags chinese takeout on to a table and placed his hand over his chest as though he had been shot, letting out an audible gasp. “Nearly thirty? I’ve never been so insulted in my life. I’m firmly planted in my twenties thank you very much. Besides, don’t be agist. Anyone of any age can say ‘check out your digs’.” He insisted, dropping his hand from his chest and wandering in to the kitchen. “Where do you keep your cutlery?” He called out as he searched through her cupboards.
LANETTE
Lanette narrowed her eyes a little at Hunter’s placement of the food -- the bags weighing down the corners of some of the loose grid paper she’d been doing longhand equations on earlier. She picked up the plastic bag as Hunter looked through her cupboards. Her face screwed up in irritation as she placed the bag back down, barely listening to him as she smoothed out the pages. “Jesus fucking christ!” She yelled, putting the papers back down exasperatedly, “Just--” She clenched her jaw, swallowing the annoyance that was coming off her in waves, “Sit down.” She instructed, pulling out one of the kitchen stools from where it sat underneath the small island, “I’ll get it.”

HUNTER
Hunter’s own expression was almost a mirror of Lanette’s as she opened the door, his own eyebrows raised although he had his usual smug smirk on his face. “What do I want generally or? Because I want a bigger house, a nicer car, maybe a face lift in a few years, I kind of want a corn snake, I want a promotion…need I go on?” He inquired, laughing at himself because he was the only person who found him funny. “I brought dinner.” He finally answered her question, holding up some takeout bags as he slid past her to get in to her home. “I wanted to hang out and also check out your digs.”
LANETTE
Lanette held a dead straight face as Hunter spoke. Her eyes bored into him, unimpressed. She only shifted her features to raise an eyebrow slightly after he finished speaking. “You... brought dinner?” She said, trying to piece together a why. Lanette tensed a little as Hunter slid into her apartment. She knew in theory, he had changed a lot since moving back, but that didn’t change how she felt sometimes being alone with him. Rolling her eyes after a moment, she shut the door behind him. “You’re nearly thirty," She commented off-handly, her face scrunched up in annoyance, “Maybe retire the phrase ‘check out your digs’”
