hi! may i know the difference between извените and простите?
Hi! It is извИните, from вина, fault, guilt, blame.
The difference between the two words is somewhat similar to the difference between “I’m sorry” and “excuse me”. There are many situations when they are interchangeable, but sometimes only one of the pair can be appropriate.
For example, when you ask for a direction, or ask to give you a way in a narrow passage, you can say both извините and простите.
But if you have done something very wrong to your significant other and are trying to save your relationship, saying “извини” would sound weird. Извини is okay when you step on someone’s foot, but if you cheated your sweetheart, извини would infuriate them. Прости would be much more appropriate. It would say “I repent. I won’t do that again!”
Etymologically, прости derived from a root прост* which means “simple” in the modern Russian, but originally, a few centuries ago, it meant “empty”. Basically, прости is “relieve me from the burden of my guilt”, “empty my heart from the heavy guilt, and give me a fresh start!”. Извини doesn’t have those hidden connotations.
I'm about to turn 18, fresh outta high school. What are things I should start doing? LY
You should start investing in yourself:
Take care of your body. That means eating better, working out, sleeping enough (...) to avoid negative consequences in the future, as sometimes it’s too late. Read How not to die by Michael Greger for more details. Go to a chiropractor twice a year, and easy on the coffee.
Take care of your mind. Spend time with yourself, meditate, live slower, journal often, go to therapy - even if it’s one session a month for a year, you will always get something out of it.
Save money. You don’t need as many clothes and cocktails as you think you do - and that might be what makes the difference between an hour-long problem and an awful situation down the road. A year worth of rent and bills, for starters.
Honour your ambition. Figure out your bucket list, make a vision board, decide what’s really important and forget about the rest of the world; picture who you want to be and start acting like her.
Never stop learning. Can be a language, an instrument, code, etc. For your professional, social, romantic life - make yourself interesting. If you like something, explore it. You never know what opportunity could come from that - regrets are a terrible thing.
Treat yourself like someone you love. You shouldn’t need to have a friend coming to shower or take the trash out. Don’t tell yourself horrible things - they’re wrong, and won’t help.
Surround yourself with goodness. You want to enjoy your life, not spend it healing from things that could have been avoided: when someone shows you who they are, believe them. The first time. Don’t stay faithful to people who think you’re replaceable.
Be nicer than necessary. We have enough devil’s advocates.
Stop gossiping, trash-talking, mocking; don’t ever alienate people on purpose - be an example, not a preacher.
Don’t take anything for granted. Your health, relationships, job, house. You could lose anything, anytime. Be prepared for that, and do everything you can to make tomorrow easier.
Love,
Mum
🍋 Nominalisation in Korean 🍋
Why nominalisation? It makes a lot of things easier when it comes to expand your knowledge of vocabulary! And you need to know the basic idea of nominalisation for kind of a lot of grammatical structures~
Quick explanation on Nominalisation:
Nominalisation is when you turn a verb into a noun, which then acts like a noun, too.
E.g.: (to) study -> studying
(to) dance -> dancing
Now that you got an idea, let's move on with the Korean Nominalisation Rules! 시작하자!
There are 3 kinds of nominalisation:
VS* + ㄴ/는 것 (formal)
VS + 기 (less formal)
VS + ㅁ/음
*VS = Verb Stem
Let's get into each of those patterns one by one:
1. VS +ㄴ/는 것
often when describing the process of something
e.g.: 매운 음식 먹은 것을 안 좋아 -Eating
나는 영화 보는 것을 정말로 좋아하지 않아-Seeing
이야기 쓰는 것은 제 취미입니다-Writing
2. VS + 기
often used in enumerations (e.g. to-do lists)
e.g.:
연습 많이 하기 때문에 진짜 피곤하는데 지금 잠자고 있어요.
한국어 잘하기 위해서 내가 열심히 배우워요.
1 - 우유 사기
2 - 한국어 공부하기 ✓
3 - 많이많이 마시기
3. VS + ㅁ/음
creates an independent noun
you can often find those kind of nominalisations as an specific dictionary entry for the created noun (that sounds like weird English, sorry)
e.g. 가르치다 to teach -> 가르침 teaching
자다 to sleep -> 잠 sleep
추다 to dance -> 춤 dance
살다 to live -> 삶 life
Some of the forms above are also used in combination with their original (verb) form :
춤추다 = to dance (lit. "to dance a dance")
잠자다 = to sleep, to get sleep (lit. "to sleep sleep(?that ain't a thing (٥↼_↼))
That's all for now ヾ(・ω・*)ノ and I wanted to thank you for 7 followers I gained within 2 days?? It's not a huge number, but more than I had ever expected :0 thank you so much <3

How did you begin to start Russian
I took a few courses in uni. Before that, I purchased The New Penguin Russian Course book that helped me a bit with the alphabet & some other intro stuff. My professors were amazing and I owe a lot to them.
If you are wondering about how to self-learn Russian, I suggest The New Penguin Russian Course, Colloquial Russian , or Ultimate Russian: Beginner-Intermediate. A podcast for beginners, a language partner such as on Tandem/ iTalki/ Discord/ HelloTalk, and some way to learn vocabulary such as with Memrise/ Anki/ Quizlet/ Lingvist. If you want more beginner study tips/ guideline on starting to learn Russian, I’d be happy to make a post.
