It’s very funny how in Mortos Der Soulstealer the worst thing Zim probably did to Dib was to have Gir shoot him with a sandwich (it was hard enough to punch him through a concrete wall but still)

And Dib’s goal throughout the episode is to kill Zim straight up. Just magic insta-kill him. The fact that Zim has no idea Dib was so close to doing this is pretty funny too.

Zim acts all casual a few times in this one and just starts walking away at the end, instead of like bringing out a laser and shooting Dib on the spot while he has the chance.

That’s accurate with this characterization:

He always seems to want what he’s doing to be some “brilliant” complicated thing (which is why I think Dib is still alive lol)

In Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy we see this too; he sees Dib as enough of a threat to his mission that he’s gonna send a “hunter-destroyer machine” back in time to kill him. But this is a 12 year old child, you can’t just send the robot after him in the present??

Zim is stupid in some ways and smart in others, and when the plot allows him to succeed in a situation it’s usually with something clever. His fight with Sgt. Hobo in Hobo 13 shows that pretty well, he’s at a major disadvantage but is using tech knowledge to win. He’s got some cool moments in FBI Warning of Doom too.

Back to what I was saying in the first place; I think with the differences in Zim and Dib’s character, how seriously they’re taking things, and how they utilize their resources; if Dib were in Zim’s position, he’d probably just shoot him.

They’re very similar in a lot of ways, but in their final characterization Dib often has a lot more common sense than Zim. (If Zim has any common sense at all.) I’m sure he does wanna outsmart Zim, but more than that he wants to win however he can.
