honestly my experience as a trans man who doesn't pass (and probably never will tbh) has very much been one of falling through the cracks. oftentimes i'll be dealing with large mainly cis organizations with deeply ingrained transphobia who don't see me as a man at all but as a woman who is failing at being a woman. naturally they aren't thrilled about this so i deal with a lot of misogyny for that reason. but then i go to activist/advocacy orgs for support dealing with that kind of treatment and in a weird attempt to affirm my gender they're like "actually you're a man so you don't deal with gendered discrimination". this specific situation - powerful institutions seeing me as "confused woman" vs. activist communities seeing me as "privileged man" creates this catch 22 where i am never properly supported by either of them and left to fend for myself. this is also why the whole "women and nonbinary people" thing weirds me out so much because it implies that if i just IDed as nonbinary rather than as a trans man and kept everything else the exact same suddenly this discrimination would be gender based.

anyway. oppression is a nuanced thing and i think it's important to listen to trans men about our experiences.

You know what's fucked up?

We're forced to learn a second language in school. French, Spanish, whatever.

But in most schools...

Learning your country's native sign language is not mandatory.

This is not okay!

D/deaf people aren't only ones who would benefit from this. Hard-of-hearing or Hearing Impaired people, CODA or those in the Deaf community who's first language is signed, those with Auditory Processing Disorders, those with verbal disabilities, and many many others NEED this to be more widely taught.

We can't force them to speak our language, but we are privileged enough that we can learn theirs. And rejecting this is an insult. It's ableist.

Auditory and verbal disorders also sometimes are comorbid with other disorders and disabilities such as Autism and ADHD.

But if you want a more selfish excuse to learn, consider this:

You can communicate in loud environments

You can communicate in places you're expected to remain quiet

You can communicate under water

You can communicate across a room without having to yell

You broaden your friendship circle by being more inclusive

It's hecking fun to learn!

Sign language needs to be taught in schools. Period.

A fun way to get yourself to do chores when you have adhd is to simulate a sense of panic by setting horrible deadlines that fit into other things that you’re doing.

For example, you set up a kettle of water to boil for your tea. Quick! Wipe down the whole counter before it’s done boiling, for the love of god you’re running out of time! Wipe it down! The water is almost boiling.

The water is boiling and your counter is clean. Now set your timer for your tea for three minutes and of my god there’s cups in your room! Quick! Get all the cups from everywhere in the house! Run! You’ve only got three minutes! Get all the dishes into the kitchen!

Oh would you look at that. You got all the dishes in the sink and now your tea is ready. Nice. Now you can chill with your tea.

I’ve found that little stuff like that helps me. Forcing myself into unexpected last minute deadlines. It fills up empty space and my house is a little bit cleaner.
