there will never be anything as funny as the mutual disbelief between long form and short form fic writers about each other's style.

short form writers look at people writing 100k+ fics as though this is some sort of talent given as part of a fae bargain, that the commitment required shows some sort of ungodly mental fortitude.

meanwhile long form writers look at people writing 1000 word one shots like god I would cut off my left nipple to be able to say anything concisely. i would love to play with multiple ideas. free me from the shackles of this child I have birthed. i love them but I now must take them to t-ball and doctor's appointments and they're going to destroy everything I own.

That One Korra Scene. You Know The One.

One of my favorite merthur scenes is Merlin’s “I didn’t want you to feel that you were alone” and it’s so beautiful for so many reasons, but what I don’t see ever mentioned is the moments right after Arthur opens the doors. Merlin doesn’t look at Arthur or give any indication he’s awake until he says Merlin’s name.

I think it’s so special because he’s giving Arthur the choice of what he wants to do. He can leave Merlin there and be alone or he can ‘wake him up’ and have a friend. He knows Arthur might not want to engage with anyone after an entire night spent with his deceased father. It’s a beautiful, understated act of consideration, love, and empathy.

Thinking about Frenchie holding Izzy’s hand as the crew talk sense into him about his toxic relationship with Blackbeard. How Frenchie knew he needed all the comfort he could get, even though he was being held by Fang. Even though Frenchie has all his trauma locked up in a box in his brain.

Thinking about Frenchie saving and hiding Izzy at great risk to himself. About Jim and Archie helping Izzy after getting shot by Blackbeard. About Frenchie using Izzy’s thigh as a pillow when they’re in prison awaiting death. They’re a crew. A family. They love each other.

I love Stede so much, but watching him is seeing my worst qualities reflected back at me.

Or rather what I fear is my worst qualities.

- Well meaning but completely out of touch and ends up hurting people because of it

- Easy to manipulate

- Unable to connect to others due to trauma and low self-esteem

- Recives some sort of approval by peers/authority and will then abandon my morals and then manages to add MORE self-hatred into the mix like a champ

- Dismissive of others

Not sure if this is what others see in me but yeah. That is where I am at. And yet… I love him. I see the bad but what’s good too, and thus it’s easier.

The good, the bad and the ugly and I love him and it feels weird (but good weird.)
