How can I continue to enjoy HP content as a trans person?

I don’t put trans as my identifier, because a whole butthurt load of trans people like gatekeep and say NB people aren’t trans. So fuck it. But if you ask me and aren’t judging. I am trans.

I am a Snape fan. But I am also a Marauder fan.

I like complicated characters and I like complicating one dimensional characters. Snape is already complicated, as is Lily, Sirius, and Peter. But James and Remus could use more complicating.

I wish I could impart the knowledge that atonement and forgiveness are two very different types of redemption arcs to marauder stans. And Severus's redemption comes in both flavours.

His atonement to losing Lily as a friend and unintentionally providing the information that would get her killed is achieved by his act of sacrifice to ensure Voldemort dies and that Harry survives.

His redemption via forgiveness is achieved posthumously when Harry clearly willing to forgive Severus for how he treated them all those years in Hogwarts, by naming his son after him.

Redemption via Atonement requires sacrifice.

Redemption via forgiveness requires someone else forgiving you for your wrongdoings to them regardless whether you asked to be forgiven or not.

Severus Snape was redeemed twofold.

Hey there! I don't usually make posts talking about my own opinions, but this is something we need to talk about openly and as adult human beings. I've been receiving a lot of different messages, some awesome and supportive about my current situation, and others a little concerning. I won't be sharing them here, but they're regarding my drawings of Paapa's Snape. Now, Snape is my favorite character from any media. His struggles, his undying love, his (alleged) selfish acts to achieve silent selfless goals, everything, always.

As a Latina woman, I feel Snape represents one of (if not the) most accurate portrayals of the "self vs self" struggle in media. And yes, having a Black man in the role can change some aspects of how some of us understand him and how we perceive actions by characters such as James, Sirius, and Remus. But I cannot help but see it as an amazing tool that, in the right hands, can be used to deepen a story that has made us cheer and cry over and over again.

I understand your concerns, and no, I won't stop drawing my own interpretation of the character. Nor will I stop drawing every interpretation of the character that ever comes out. Guys, I worry every day about illness, bills, anxiety, and the constant fear of losing the little I have struggled to build. I won't concern myself with whether a character's skin is one color or another. Or that it doesn't represent how I look (Latina) in media. I am NOT the character; I am a person among many others, and there are far more important things to worry about, like who a character is, rather than how he looks.

Anyway, to sum it all up, I will keep drawing Snape just like I always have, and yes, there will be some art inspired by the HBO version, as the fan of the character that I am. I hope you understand. Thank you to everyone who loves my work and is always here supporting me.

I actually love when Remus makes the wrong decision. I love when he's affected by the years of social isolation and discrimination, and his own self worth issues. And how his own pain causes him to hurt the people around him. I love when he makes the worst possible decision- too scared to make the right one, or maybe truly believing it is the right one. I love when he's trying so hard to be a good and I absolutely love when he fails at it. Because sometimes it doesn't matter how good you want to be, you still make the wrong choice.

i could actually write an essay about the fact that snape being race swapped in the new harry potter series is racist in of itself and i think that was intentional. because let’s face it, it’s jkr’s world and there’s nothing she’d love more than reinforcing harmful stereotypes about people of color

But the moment you can be called racist, suddenly you clutch your head. you should write an essay about the new actor for snape being sent death threats and being harassed every single day, and how he has a “serious security team” because of it — since we all care a lot about racism. or is that only for show? i think arguing that he shouldn’t be black is feeding into the racist rhetoric everyone is spewing based on fictional scenes, and that is just as harmful to an actual black person involved. and i genuinely beg everyone (ESPECIALLY if you’re nonblack poc or white) to see that this has become a real-world issue and not something that is fictional anymore. you guys thinking you’re so woke for this take while a black man is being threatened in real life.
