it hurts my feelings when people frame my criticism of systems and institutions as negativity. i spend time thinking about all of this because I am very passionate about human welfare and I think our society does a very bad job of ensuring welfare for the humans who make it up in the way it is currently structured. talking about this and discussing alternatives and connecting with other ppl failed by these systems is something I do out of a fierce and defiant love of us, the people who are considered acceptable to discard. I love us. i love us so much. i want everything for us. i want joy and safety for all of us.

the things I say are only "negative" if your priority is protecting systems rather than people. its remarkable how well systems ensure that individuals feel connected to and defensive of them even when we are not being well served by them. standing up and saying "hey actually this hurt me. it hurt a lot of people. I can see exactly how and why it hurts people and I can't ignore or justify this" is a positive stance. a positive action. i love us the disposable people.

i am not glad that what happened to me happened. but, if the world works the way it does, I am grateful that I was put in a position where I was able to see that. i would not choose to be isolated from the harm if given the choice, because that would mean abandoning the people who are harmed. now that I have seen the faces of everyone else standing outside the gates I would not want to exist in a bubble wherein I refused to acknowledge their very existence. that's intolerable to think about for me. that's ghoulish.

When Bernie sees Dom stumble onto the roof with a dazed look on his face, she grins. “You look like you’ve just been snogged senseless!”

Dom grins back. “That’s because I have … and more.”

Bernie guffaws. “Where on earth did you find the privacy for that?”

“If you know where to go in this maze, you can find some very private spots,” Dom replies. “Certainly better than snogging your ex in a locker room. Come on, I’ll show you.”

Months later, Bernie remembers this conversation fondly as she’s guiding Serena through several corridors to Dom’s secret room in the basement.
