Artist’s Statement
Laura Poff's work explores gestural, repetitive and obsessive mark making techniques to create abstracted forms. She's attracted to repetitive methods of art making because it effectively conveys rhythm and duration, such processes also become meditative. The accumulation of abstracted arrangements which are created in her work are unintentional, however recognisable images often appear. Poff believes that the processes involved in creating her artwork are just as important as the end product.
The trans-formative nature of materials is also present in Poff's work. Though derived from the same source, she use's dissimilar materials to showcase how an artwork is altered due to its components. Each piece becomes subjective to the viewer’s perception.
Paper cast of aluminium sheet.
Using tissue paper and water I made paper pulp which I then made a cast with.
Photography manipulations
Using a nail and a hammer, I repetitively tapped an aluminium sheet which resulted in a mountainous form. I want to explore repetition through various materials. Although the material is hard and cold, the form that takes shape appears organic and natural,
Once this process is complete, I plan on taking a paper cast of it.

Artist's Statement
Fundamentally, the relation between art and the unconscious is at the core of my practice. I aim to reach out to the viewer’s imagination whilst expressing my own subconscious mind. The surrealists advocated the technique of automatism as a gesture of the hand, I use it as a gesture of the mind. Using video and photography, I want to give the audience an insight into the process in which these drawings are created.
"Take a photograph and enhance elements according to the intensity of the memory"
I took pictures of trees and manipulated them so that they would resemble ink blot (Rorschach) tests. My work deals with the unconscious mind and i want people to engage with my work.

"Take a photograph and censor it"
I created a booklet using the same photograph and manipulating it using ink and water.
