This person sent such a lovingly crafted ask that I can’t answer directly as it contains spoilers for the final EP of YanDCA Obsession Origins. But to answer your three questions:

1. Yes, you are RIGHT on the money. You’re the first person who’s guessed this correctly and I’m glad someone figured it out before the series ends.

2. A yes and a no. I keep their dynamics and labels a bit ambiguous for a reason— that is, so anyone can see themself in Y/N! I personally flirt with my friends so like,,, it’s not entirely romantic but if you see it as such then so it shall be! Also, some parts of this theory were amazingly written, you definitely picked up a lot of the things I’d put down in this series (leave it to the English majors to do such things ahaha you guys are awesome!).

3. I am so very flattered to have my work be put under a microscope like that. Indeed I am intentional about the way I approach my work but this one’s not something I put much thought into, I’m afraid. The asymmetry of their facial expressions is just that— asymmetry. But I’m glad that an unintentional pattern has gotten your [stoned] brain working lol

They left off with more wonderful words but this screencap summarizes it plenty, I’d say:

Your words do mean something. They mean A LOT. And I’m grateful and genuinely tear up over asks like yours ahaha. Sometimes I just make to make something, sometimes I put in so much work that it makes me a bit anxious to even share it in the first place. Posting online is definitely scary, especially with the chance of receiving hate or absolute nothing. But it’s either that or end up in a place that I don’t want for myself. Pick your poison kinda thing.

I hope you also find the courage to publish your own works. Like you said, your actions can affect others in such a positive way! And it’s not just me, but you guys as well :))

ETA as I sometimes don’t get all my thoughts out properly even after writing an answer already lol:

Also because I just like representing non-conventionally attractive features in my Y/N characters. Though I’m not really sure if it comes off that way because my art style unintentionally makes them all look “pretty” (gender neutral). Point is, I think there are a lot of beautiful looking people out there with buck teeth, for example, that aren’t often depicted in media unless they’re the weird, undesirable geek, cast-out character. And those characters end up getting them “fixed” just to look acceptable.

Drawing Y/Ns is a good opportunity, in my opinion, to explore different features and portray them as desirable— after all, a Y/N’s a Y/N because we want to see ourselves in them and they’re often the loved and adored character in the media they’re inserted in. I haven’t made enough Y/Ns to prove my point though, but I definitely have done a few variety of Y/Ns like my TFC one who don’t have conventionally attractive (or even eurocentric) features but are still loved and adored by the character (s) they’re shipped with.

I’ve seen a handful of people here on Tumblr make their Y/Ns the same way (eg, with acne, disabled, plus size, androgynous but not in a supermodel way, etc.), and I think more people should be doing the same. Especially if you yourself have features that you want to see represented in media too!
