Art Project #4 Performance Art
to create. to study. to relax. to make. to think. to watch.
Artist Statement: To perform and show bits of my "real" life as an artist through these images.
I think people tend to have false ideals about artists that they might live big loud wild lives while creating arts. When people ask me what I do/ want to do for a living, and I would tell them that I'm an artist and want to create art. They somehow always think I'm either spending my time being stashed away in a warehouse for many hours making quirky arts or that I'm doing something wild with many people everyday when in reality, artists are just the same as everyone else. We all have to work, study, and rest. our lives aren't as glamour and crazy as people seem to think. There are still some misconception about artists because of the internet like social media. Social media allows people to perform as someone they're not, as someone they want to be. Because of that, people tend to have a hard time seperating the reality of who that person really is from the persona they created on the internet. That allows people to perceive and create unintentional false ideals about other people such as artists. When we are on the internet, we are performing because in reality, most people don't really want to see the real us. This project is about undoing that.
Reading and Response #4 Performance Art
The first reading "Performance: A Hidden History" was interesting to read because it talks about performance art and what it really mean, but it also mentioned that the meaning of performance art changes over time as it wasn't accepted as a medium of expression for a long time in art history. It was interesting to read about Futurist and Dadaists and example of what they do. There was a lot of history about performance art that I didn't know about. I was glad to read that performance art was finally acknowledged as a medium of art expression because I think it's important for art history to acknowlege that kind of medium because to me, I think performance art can be considered as one of the biggest medium to have an impact on art culture just as acting does.
The second reading "The Other History of Intercultural Performance" went into more details about performance art. the one thing i thought was interesting and sad to read about was the origin of performance art in the west, it only began as people were bought for aesthetic contemplation, scientific analysis, and enterainment in Europe.
Overall, I think performance art is important because it went against the "norms" of elite art and changed the genre of art. I believe it allows people to express themselves more effectively in a way that other art medium cannot. Performance art also offers a chance to bring in culture with their work and allowing more artists to learn from it. I can see why performance art has become the essential art medium in this century now.

Corruption for Profit.
“Cash rules everything around me, dollar dollar bill yall.”
We as society are driving by the all mighty dollar. Everything we do revolves around money and making money. We go to work everyday to earn money to survive. We spend money on the things we need to survive. We also earn and spend to satisfy our wants and desires. What else does the $ fuel? War? Corruption? Government? Politics? Healthcare? It seems that money even fuels the worst components of the world. War for profit. Medicine for profit. People for profit. Power for profit. Corruption for Profit.
The old saying goes that “money is the root of all evil”, is there some truth in that? Some also say that “money can’t buy you happiness”. Does that apply in today’s society? Some may say yes and some no. However we can agree that money rules the world……
Art Project #3: The Supercut Video (A Supercut of Us)
Artist Statement:
I made this supercut to capture a montage of just really special and happy times that I’ve had with my friends. My friends are such an important and influential part of my life that without them I don’t know where I’d be. Whenever I’m with my friends, it’s only good vibes and I always just have a great time and I wanted to capture that joyous feeling through this supercut video.
I was scrolling through my camera roll trying to find videos to include in this montage while still unsure of what song I wanted to use when I came across the first video clip. After a very adventurous day, I took numerous videos of my friends and I singing songs in the car and we happened to be singing “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove as one of them. When this song had first came out, I was obsessed with it because it always just made me feel nostalgic to all the happy summer days I would have being out with friends and how special those days were.
I decided from there to use this song and had the idea to transition us singing the song into the actual audio of the song. I then put the audio and the first clip into the editing app I use on my iPad (Premiere Rush) and then from there found a variety of short videos of my friends and I and put those in as well.
I’m really happy with how the video came out and I genuinely think I captured some of these momentous times with friends. I can feel how happy I get every time I watch it, which I’ve rewatched it an ungodly amount of times at this point.

Art Project #3: Resident Evil Series Supercut Video
Artist Statement #3
Resident Evil (Biohazard) is my favorite game to play. I was captivated by its atmosphere, the strategic survival horror gameplay, and most of all, the the adrenaline.
I wanted to make my viewers feel the same way as I did. To make them feel anxious, on edge, and captivated while watching this video.
The purpose of this video is to show all similar situations from every series which is chaos and fear.
The clips are pulled from YouTube and from my own PlayStation console as I recorded some of the moments. The clips are put together with faster speed. The music is also being sped up every few moments to give that build-up feelings.
The clips in this video: Resident Evil 1 Remake, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil Village.

Art Project #2: Gif Series
Artist Statement:
The GIFs I chose to make were based on some of my favorite scenes from the movie Pearl. The process of making the GIFs was difficult at first because I was unable to figure out how Photoshop worked and was having difficulties with my subscription but I was able to easily import the clips into ProCreate and it would automate a GIF for me. In order to make it below the maximum space limit on Tumblr, I changed the resolution so it’s more pixelated (Web Ready) but was able to upload. I really enjoyed doing this project because Pearl had recently become one of my favorite movies - as well as the overall movie series - since seeing it in theaters and the psychological horror/slasher scenes as well as the Hollywood classic style scenes to fit the time period all tied together and were things that I immediately thought of capturing for this project. I also love this movie and the eerie visuals in each scene that are so casually and oddly portrayed to convey the story of Pearl being trapped and isolated on a farm taking care of her father but striving to be a star one day to escape, moving forward to this goal by murdering numerous people, yet she’s still confused by her actions out of frustration and anger. The theme of this movie is repression and the fact that Pearl has to come to terms with staying on this farm and holding back from experiencing stardom and sexual freedom. She feels lonely and isolated and constantly craves the attention from the outside world and strangers, claiming she’s special and she’s a star, emphasizing her need for this considering she didn’t receive this love from her family and was even more isolated with the flu. The movie takes from concepts of The Wizard of Oz as well as Mary Poppins with similar themes and the same technicolor scenes. Pearl is nonetheless horrific yet there’s still an odd sense of pity for her complicated feelings of despair. It’s a difficult movie to explain with many underlying psychological meanings so I would recommend watching it because it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen.
Artists through Gifs
For my series of gifs, I decided to do my favorite artists. I love listening to music and watching music videos and this was an opportunity to create gifs through them. The movement in each of these gifs are so playful to watch and seeing the different paces in each gif. Especially the color palettes from each video such as Amy Winehouse being black and white and Kali Uchis having a glamour effect. My process through this project was simple for me because I got the hang of creating and editing the videos, just took some time with taking out extra frames and condensing the file for it to be able to upload.
Pushing through everyday. Seeking. Hoping for happiness. For me, with happiness there will always be sorrow but nature continues to prove that even in the worst of times one can find peace and solace. I seek the experiences in nature that will make me forget, if just for a brief second.
Reading Response #3 Video Art
According to Sean Cubitt, Video art is an art form that uses video, light, and sound as a medium. Making it artistic almost like a film. According to Lea Collet, Bruce Nauman was one of people who created video art by filming himself, using himself as a material for art purpose. In Lea Collect’s paper, there was many artists that showed examples of video art which was interesting for me to read and see. In Lea Collet’s reading, there was some artists that used lights as their focus for video art and some others used rhythms and sounds as their main focus. It was clear that video art opened the door for many artists to start using video as a creative process to create art.
In Sean Cubitt’s reading, it talked about the origin of art and how it entered into our world by people discovering they can use outline and reflection as an art before they even realized what it meant. I liked this sentence in the reading “The world we see is but a reflection of a reality that escapes its reflections.” Because it accurately described what art world is all about.
I would like to think that art is a reflection of what artist see in their own perspective of the world. I think many artists have their own way to express themselves with what works for them.
Nam June Paik. He discovered video art by actually using televisions itself as art. Showing videos on them but using TVs as part of his artworks.
Dan Graham would record his audience and display them on tv screen to other audience. Using the idea of using his audience as a part of his art.
Rachel Rose, uses perceptual experiences and would suddenly change the scenery in her video art. Some people would call her video art unsettling because of how it would affect people’s emotions while viewing her video art “Enclosure” that captures a shift in human consciousness.
Cory Arcangel, he uses video games as a part of his video art.
Hito Steyerl, who uses her time in quarantine to create video art that represents the era of never-ending screen time in this society.
Art Project #2: Gif Series
ARTIST STATEMENT #2 Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) film.
I decided to make gifs from this film Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) film because I would spend my days off from school watching this movie growing up. It became my comfort movie because it's such a fun, colorful, and energetic film. To many people, they would say they love this movie because they were able to live vicariously through Ferris and his friends in this film. It provided that escapist, comedic fantasy that a lot of people want to dream of. This film is hard for me to forget because Ferris Bueller himself is such a unique character that we can never forget. I decided to make some of my favorite moments from this film because they are memorable, funny, and interesting to look at. It was challenging to turn these moments into gif. I did not realize I would need to put in some time to compress them without losing good quality. It's been a while since I've made gifs with Photoshop software, so I had to go back into my old adobe textbook to reteach myself how to compress properly. I was happy with the result in the end. It was a fun project to do! I find myself wanting to make more gifs now because it was fun to make something into something else.
Experiment #2: Making Mini-Cinema
X-files is one of my favorite shows to watch! I remember watching this scene as a kid; it always gave me goosebumps!
I love you, dad
I love you, more.
