₊˚⊹♡ dean winchester vs. baby fever ft. very supportive in love cas & cassie (cas's kitten) ♡⊹₊˚
a/n: this is a silly little lowkey kinda crackfic (especially as we continue) destiel post canon fix it au. it’s been floating around my head for a while so i must get it out my head. i'm basically giving dean and cas a baby. expect many chapters
ao3 link (same fic but on ao3)
timeline: post canon/ post season 15 episode 18
summary: cas has been back from the empty and fully human for about six months now. dean and cas after some fumbling and stumbling on dean's part (dean got some repressed feelings and interalized homophobia thanks john winchester so that took a while to work throught. could techinally be a prequel fic. maybe it'll write it but the prequel would be inspired by this fic) mostly have been together for about five months with cas somehow acquiring a kitten named (cassiopeia (after the constellation) cassie for short) along the way who lucky gets along with miracle. jack is technically still god but after fixing everything after chuck did and dean apologizing and working on making up being a really piece of shit father figure to jack, jack is more than content to just live at home with his family. sam and eileen have been going steady for about six months. dean has somehow manged to mostly fully wean off hunting even thought sometimes he finds himself looking throught newpapers for cases is enjoying being lowkey retired and just getting to enjoy being in love with cas. no cases to rush and solve and no apocalypse. just surrounded by his family..but one thing is missing and dean refuses to say what it is he wants...even tho everyone can tell because dean keeps sending everyone baby animal videos and cooing and looking at every single baby they see in public...dean has been attacked by baby fever..furry baby or human baby
warnings/tags: fluffy, baby fever, destiel, saileen, jack doing godly shenanigans, miracle being the goodest boy, cas plus cassie (the cat), more pets to come because i said so, future witchy sam, destiel baby, etc.
The bunker was quiet in the way most mornings were now.
Not the space in between researching lore and being on a hunt.
Just simple, peaceful, quiet.
The sound of a home not fully woken up yet.
Sure Sam and Eileen were already up and out on their morning run with Miracle. Since Miracle was not patient enough to wait for Dean to get up so he could go outside. And Sam and Eileen had offered months ago to just bring him on their run.
But Dean was very much not fully awake. Because the stupid accident ass coffee machine he refuses to replace was taking forever. But at least Dean has Cas to wait with.
His Cas who is ever since becoming human finally fully understands why humans require coffee to wake up in the morning.
Dean is bare foot in the kitchen in his and Cas's matching bee themed pjs Cas had seen at the store one day and brought on a whim (Dean likes to act like he hates them but he wears them basically every night except when they are in the wash).
Dean wrapped around Cas from behind holding him like Cas is his personal teddy bear. Chin resting on his shoulder.
"Damn, coffee machine taking it's sweet ass time." Dean mumbles sleepily pressing his temple against Cas's
Cas leans himself further back into Dean bringing his hands to rest on top of Dean's arms around his waist.
"You complain every morning, Dean. You should just simply buy a new one. I believe it is taking even longer than normal. It's been five minutes instead of its usual three."
Cas stares the machine down in hopes it will go faster.
"Well Cas, part of the process of having my morning coffee is waiting for the machine to slowly drip out coffee while I have an excuse to hold you in my arms. Plus I can’t expect any old coffee machine to make MY coffee. I don’t need some fancy coffee machine with buttons and shit.”
Dean grumbles burying his face in Cas’s neck.
“Hmm. Sam may be right that you are becoming an old man, Dean. You are quite particular and stubborn like one.”
Cas says as he turns his head slightly to kiss Dean’s forehead.
“You’re one to talk. You’ve been alive since like the beginning of time.” Dean grumbles
Dean pulls his face out of Cas’s neck. His face scrunched up into a scoff.
“That is true. Either way I don’t care if you are growing old, Dean. I am looking forward to growing old with you”
Cas says as he turns around in Dean’s hold a soft look in his eyes so full of love it melts Dean every time and makes him blush like a schoolboy.
“Don’t get sappy with me, Angel”
“I’m simply telling you the truth, Dean. I love you”
Dean feels the end of his lips turn up into a smile. He’ll never get used to hearing Cas tell him that.
Dean presses a kiss to Cas’s lips. Meant to be a little peck but Dean is always a little greedy for Cas’s lips and his taste and just him. Dean ends up going in for another one. Cas is just as greedy and eagerly leans into the next kiss.
Dean is half inclined to drag Cas back to their bedroom. Especially while they basically have the house to themselves with Jack still fast asleep.
Dean starts to say after Cas pulls away from his lips. But a loud very familiar-
Echos in the mostly quiet except for them bunker kitchen.
Cassie, the abandoned kitten Cas had found out alone in the rain one night shortly after they had rescued him from the empty, had decided now was the perfect time to wake up and demand attention from her father (Cas).
Cassie as soon as she spots Cas meows loudly and makes a beeline for Cas.
Cassie rubs against Cas's leg once she gets to him, purring up a storm before sitting herself in front of Cas and talking to him for attention.
"Good morning, Cassie. I love you too"
Cas says as he pulls away from Dean and squats down to rub Cassie behind her ears.
"I didn't know you spoke cat, Cas."
"I do not, Dean. But Cassie loves me and wishes to see me every morning so she must be saying something akin to I love you. So she needs to know I love her too. Plus she slowly blinked at me. And according to goggle that is her saying I love you"
Cas explains as he continues to pet Cassie who is purring like a race car.
"Damn cat ruining my Cas time"
Dean grumbles even as he bends down to give Cassie some pets too. Cas chuckles at Dean's grumbling. The kitchen goes quiet, the only sound being Cassie's purring.
The coffee machine finally finishes with a satisfying beep and Cassie seems to be satisfied with the attention and rubs and pushes into Cas's hand one last time before moving stalking off to probably go find a warm spot to sleep.
Cas stands up and begins grabbing his and Dean's matching bee themed mugs and pours out coffee for him and Dean.
Dean's back cracks as he stands up, his hand moving to rub at the base of his spine.
"Oooo, my back. God maybe I am getting old"
Dean grumbles as he joins Cas, slipping his hand into Cas's free hand and leaning his weight against him.
Cas kisses Dean's temple and they kinda just lean against each other with their coffee cooling in the mugs. The bunker is quiet yet again.
Dean was about to pull away to grab his apple pie creamer because Dean was too old to be pretending that black coffee was ever actually good and that he wasn't just drinking it to get an energy boost and seem cool.
When the sound of the bunker door opening and Miracle’s nails against the floor break the silence of the bunker. A silence that will be gone until nightfall once everyone is back in their beds.
The sound of Sam talking to Miracle to stay still for Sam to wipe his paws and body down with the pet wipes and rags Sam insisted on buying and putting in a basket by the door.
“We’re back” Sam calls out, still wiping Miracle.
“Good morning, lovebirds” Eileen signs while speaking as she walks into the kitchen area heading to grab a bottle of water from the fridge.
Dean clumsily signs back a “Good morning” back along with saying it. Dean has been trying to sign as he speaks as much as he can with Eileen so she doesn’t have to rely on just reading his lips. Sure Eileen can simply read their lips and then answer back with words but Dean wants to have other ways to communicate with her. Plus Eileen has expressed how sometimes she prefers to just sign sometimes.
Everyone else also agreed they should all do their best to learn ASL. Dean is the most behind out of anyone in the bunker. Jack knows every language because of angel nonsense, Cas is an ex-angel and retained some of the “i know every every language” nonsense & Sam.. is well smart as shit and picked up ASL pretty quickly.
“How was your run?” Cas signs.
Before Eileen can answer the sound of Miracle’s nails as he runs across the bunker to get to his favorite human interpret her.
“Miracle, slow down, buddy.” Sam yells out
But it’s too late because Miracle goes barreling at Dean’s leg, almost knocking him down as he noses at his leg and panting up at Dean.
“Ooof.” Dean says almost falling over as Miracle pushes his whole body weight against Dean’s leg. His tail wagging a million miles a minute just so happy to see Dean, his favorite human.
Miracle whines at Dean because one minute without attention from Dean feels like forever.
Dean sighs and reaches a hand down to pet Miracle’s head. Miracle’s noses at Dean’s hand greedy for all of Dean’s attention and affections on him.
“Hey, buddy. You saw me like 30 minutes ago. Not that I’m not happy to see you. But you’d think it’s been months”
Dean crotches down rubs and scratches at Miracle’s chest and sides and just ruffles up his fur. Making Miracle’s tail somehow wag faster.
“Yeah, buddy. I love you too” Dean mumbles leaning in to press a kiss on Miracle's forehead which earns some licks and kisses from Miracle.
“He never acts that excited to see me. You really are his favorite, Dean” Sam walks into the kitchen making a beeline for the fridge for his stupid nasty ass green smoothie he swears tastes great and is sooo healthy.
“You’re such a softie” Eileen signs giggling as she watches Miracle lick at Dean’s face still.
Dean takes a moment to get what Eileen signed and when he realizes what she said he rolls his eyes playfully and goes back to petting Miracle.
“So, what if I’m a softie? I can be tough and a softie who loves his dog” Dean gives Miracle one last kiss on his forehead before standing back up to get Miracle his breakfast.
Jack, having woken up due to the commotion in the kitchen, walks into the kitchen dragging his feet as he rubs his eyes, Miracle upon spotting his second favorite human making a run for Jack.
Jack is not prepared for Miracle basically tackling him and stumbles falling on his butt. Miracle immediately attacks Jack with licks, his tail wagging like crazy.
“Hi, Miracle! Good morning.” Jack giggles ruffling Miracle’s fur and just letting Miracle lick and nose at his face and hands.
“Morning, kid.” Dean says softly looking at Jack with a fond look on face. Dean was glad that after everything the world and he had put Jack through the kid was finally happy. Even if he had godly powers and could probably smite him and everyone on earth if he really wanted to.
“Good morning, Jack.” Cas says just as soft as he mulls around getting Jack’s favorite cup out with little cherries on it for Jack’s daily apple juice.
“I swear you and Dean are Miracle’s favorite people.” Sam walks over to Jack to help him get his butt off the floor because if Jack had it his way he would probably be there for another 10 minutes loving on Miracle.
Once Jack is standing, Miracle heads back to Dean, who at this point is mixing his wet and dry food, so he can have breakfast. Eileen who was just watching this the whole time makes her way over to Jack already signing and asking Jack what he thought of that book she lent him.
Cas stands there pouring apple juice in a glass with cherries on it for his son and feels at peace. After an eternity of being a soldier and then the chaos of world ending disasters and hunts being surrounded by love and family is all he can ever want. He would fall and give up his angelhood a million times over just for one day of this.
Breakfast is Dean’s favorite thing to cook. Especially since he finally perfected homemade pancakes from scratch. Sure he could cook bacon and eggs and toast before but that was easy. Homemade pancakes without pre-made pancake mix sounded scary. But as the saying goes the third time a charm and the third time he made them they came out perfect.
Dean’s pancakes quickly became a household staple for the entire family. So by the time breakfast was read Sam and Eileen had showered from their run, Miracle had already been fed (even though Dean was still gonna sneak him some bacon but no one needed to know that) & Jack had brushed his teeth and his mess of a head of hair. Cas was the only one still missing. He had been talking to Dean about…well something. Dean was normally great at listening to Cas ramble about whatever new hobby he picked up or fact he learned. But he was kinda too focused on the sound of Cas’s voice as he cooked instead of the words Cas was saying.
Cas had walked off at some point to use the bathroom and then vanished. All five of the plates were full of pancakes, scrambled eggs & bacon. Cas’s spot at the table between Dean and Jack was set but no Cas. Dean frowned as he ran some water into the dishes piled in the sink from cooking.
“Do any of you know where Cas is?” Dean says as he sits down in his chair and pulls out Cas for when he comes back from wherever he is.
“Went to feed, Cassie” Eileen answers, only signing out Cassie.
Dean sighs. Cas spoiled Cassie like no other. The amount of times Cas would go to feed Cassie, whose bowls were in the library to keep Miracle from accidentally eating her food, he would end up playing with her or if she was in the mood cuddling with her and talking to her like she was a damn baby.
Dean wished he had a baby…. And there that thought was again. It had been plaguing Dean’s mind ever since he and Cas started dating. It was the next step wasn’t it. They were particularly already married so whenever they actually got married wouldn’t be changing much so a baby was the next step.
Dean always knew he was pretty great with kids. And sure he had Jack and there was Emma for that short period of time. There was also Ben who looking back on it might be his kid. But the root of the issues was him and Cas.
Jack was his, Cas & Sam’s kid. Especially Cas’s kid. But Jack was never an actual baby. Dean wanted to experience parenting with Cas first hand. The late night wake ups, the blow outs. He wanted to raise a kid from the beginning with Cas. As Sam kept making fun of him for he had baby fever. And it all started with that damn-
Cas walking back into the kitchen snapped Dean out of his baby spiral thoughts. And just as Dean assumed Cassie was being carried like a baby half asleep and lightly purring.
“Cassie was being very needy. She required love and attention” Cas simply states as he walks over to his chair and sits down letting Dean push it in for him like the gentleman he is.
“You can put her down now, Cas. You can’t exactly eat while holding her, babe” Dean pouts a little because well he kinda likes having all of Cas’s attention while they eat breakfast. He needs his daily Cas time while enjoying his homemade food.
Cas smiles and gives Dean that fond look he has reserved just for him before pressing a quick peck to Dean’s lip and then giving Cassie a kiss before setting her down.
Cassie moves to happily curl up under Cas’s chair and fall asleep.
“Are we gonna eat or are you just going to be jealous of a cat all day, Dean?” Sam teases rolling his eyes at Dean’s antics.
“Oh, fuck off, Sammy. I don’t make fun of you for how lovey dovey you are with Eileen”
“Yeah, because unlike you I’m not easy to egg on”
“Love you too, Dean” Sam smirks before finally digging into his eggs.
“The way you two argue anyone would know you’re brothers immediately” Eileen says chuckling a bit to herself before taking a bite of bacon.
“Dad, can you pass me the syrup?” Jack asks, looking at Cas expectantly.
Cas eyes immediately soften. Ever since Jack brought him back as a human and Jack had stepped down from being God he had asked if he could call Cas Dad because well Cas was his dad in every sense of the word.
Sure Jack considered Dean and Sam his dads too but Cas was the one he wanted to call dad. Cas would never get over the fact that Jack felt strongly enough about him to give him the official title of dad.
“Sure thing, Cas” Cas says softly as he hands over the syrup.
Breakfast goes by slowly, everyone eating and talking about what they should do that weekend. It had been Sam’s idea to start doing family bonding time every weekend especially so Dean would have something to do before he felt too restless and went through the newspaper looking for hunts.
Everyone was almost done eating when Jack mentioned a petting zoo & pet sanctuary he had seen while looking up places to go that weekend. It was only about 30 minutes from the bunker.. And upon hearing that Dean’s eyes lit up immediately.
“Don’t go putting ideas in Dean’s head, Jack. He’ll end up going there every damn day. Dean’s baby fever will become out of control.” Sam says as he gets up to start gathering dishes to put in the sink.
“I don’t have baby fever” Dean protests weakly
“You send over 50 baby animal videos to the group chat.” Eileen giggles
“You also almost started crying after seeing a video of a fawn with a missing leg getting a prosthetic.” Cas gently rests a hand on Dean’s upper back
Dean groans. It all started because of a video of a fawn & bunny interacting and it made Dean’s heart strings squeeze. Then his feed had been flooding with baby animal videos and the worst were the baby videos especially with the little baby girl in the cuties onesies or dresses. God damn it Dean wanted a baby girl to raise with Cas. He was tired of denying it plus maybe it would get Sam to stop teasing him about it.
“Okay, fine! I have baby fever. But I just wanna have a baby girl with Cas. With Cas’s eyes and my dumb nose. Is that too much for a guy to ask for? I love Jack but I wanna raise a kid from scratch with the love of life!” Dean says a little more loudly than he meant to before slumping back into his chair defeated.
The room goes silent for a moment.
“You want to raise a baby with me?” Cas questions gently locking his eyes with Dean. Cas’s piercing blue eyes soft and warm.
“Of course I do, Cas. I dream about it sometimes too. Don’t you?” Dean’s voice is soft and shy. He hadn’t brought it up to Cas yet because he was worried he was the only one who wanted it.
“I would love to raise a baby with you, Dean.” Cas press a kiss to Dean’s temple.
“You could always adopt.” Eileen signs
“Or you could have Jack use his godly powers to magically make you a kid using your dna or something” Sam jokes lightly.
“There is no way Jack can do that..Can you Jack?” Dean raises an eyebrow while glancing over at Jack.
“I don’t think so…” Jack shrugs.
“We will have a child together one day, Dean. You do seem set on it being a girl thought” Cas rubs his hand up and down Dean’s back.
“Well baby clothes are really cute and baby dresses are even cuter. And I don’t know every dream I’ve had is us taking care of a little baby girl with your hair and your eye color but all my facial features. So I do kind of want a girl.” Dean mumbles leaning back into Cas’s hands, melting a bit at Cas’s gentle touch.
“I’m gonna go finish the book Eileen lent me.” Jack stands up and sets his dishes in the sink and heads off quickly.
“Me and Eileen are going to check in with some hunters just up north tackling a vampire nest” Sam gathers his and all the rest of the dishes and starts washing them.
Eileen signs a quick goodbye and heads off to the library.
Dean and Cas sit there for a long while quietly talking about Dean’s dreams about having a kid with him even after Sam is done washing dishes.
Dean’s back is pressed against Cas’s chest. The sound of the central air of the bunker kicking on fills the room. Cas’s arm is around Dean’s waist. Cassie is in her spot next to Cas’s head. And Miracle is curled up by his feet.
Both the pets are already asleep and Dean is just enjoying the warmth of Cas. Dean feels lighter tonight. Maybe it’s knowing the man he’s gonna marry one day wants a kid with him or just the joy of a relaxing day spent doing nothing all that important with his boyfriend.
“Dean, you are still awake” Cas mumbles into his shoulder
“I know. Just think about how happy I am. And how lucky I am to have you, Angel” Dean rest his hands upon of Cas’s arms
“So am I, Dean. I love you”
“I love you too, Cas. I can’t wait to have a daughter with you one day. Whether she looks like you or me or not”
“I can’t wait to raise another child with you, Dean”
Dean and Cas both go quiet half asleep and warm and content and loved.
Jack is lying awake staring at the ceiling of his room. The lights off his fairy lights are the only thing left on illuminating the many posters across his wall.
He knew Dean and Cas loved him and treated him like a son. And Cas was his dad basically before he was even born. But he never realized wanting to raise a baby was something Dean wanted.
But if he tried really hard he could see it. Dean with a baby girl..two baby girls. Twins babies were for some reason the only image he can conjure in his mind. Maybe because he had watched too many of those baby videos Dean sent the group chat, the last one being a week of outfits of someone's twin babies.
Sam had a point though he had godly powers and was god. So why couldn’t he magic up a baby for Dean and Cas. If it were twins one could have Cas’s eye color and the other Dean’s.
One could have Dean’s hair and the other Cas’s hair. Both their features on two faces to make sure something of them was shown in each one.
Jack could be a big brother and he knew he would be the best brother ever. He could help feed her or get her dress or…change diapers. But according to the internet diapers stinked and babies could have blow outs and get poop all over themself. Maybe he would leave that for Dean and Cas. Especially if there were two.
Jack went to bed dreaming of having two little sisters that looked like Cas and Dean.
