âThen Iâm glad you didnât ask me to cook,â Madge teases, wasting no time at all in taking his arm as they enter the restaurant. âWe could go right back to my place after dinner, my heart isnât set on dancing.â Especially not when she can think of another type of dance they could be doing...
âI never tire of hearing those words.â
Sickness starters!
( as requested by the lovely @zalemoonshadow )
âYou arenât looking so hot.âÂ
âMaybe you should sit down.â
âI think I need to sit down.â
âJust take it easy today.â
âNo â no. Weâre going home, right now.â
âCan we leave?â
âYou just threw up 3 times, youâre not fine!â
âIâm fine. I think Iâm done now.â
âJust let me take care of you. Why are you so stubborn?â
âWeâre going to the pharmacy and then weâre going home.â
âMy stomach isnât feeling so great.â
âI think my stomach is trying to digest itself.â
âI think I just need some sleep.â
âWill you stay with me tonight?â
âI donât want to get you sick.â
âYouâre gonna get me sick!â
âHoly shit, youâre burning up.â
âI canât stop sweating.â
âI canât stop shivering.â
âAre you ever not sick?âÂ
âHow the hell are you still conscious right now? Your temp is almost 104.â
âUrgent care or ER? Those are your two options. Weâre not staying here.â
âDo you want some tea?â
âI made you some tea.â
âIâm losing my voice.â
âI couldnât get any sleep last night, I canât breathe out of my nose.â
âOh my god, you sound like Roz from Monsters Inc!â
âBathroom. Now.â
âBed. Now.â
âIâm not taking that medicine, itâs disgusting.â
She was a poem but Helen was blind
Putting myself gently down in a tub of boiling hot water feels so good⊠god shouldâve made me a bag of tea honestly
Dark Passage (1947)
đđđđđđđ | @lavcnderladies for nancy !!
â đđ, đđđ đđđđ đđđđđđđ đđ ! â
she waves nancy over, and there is a tenderness in larmaâs tone which betrays her; she would blush had she caught it, but finds that her mind is elsewhere ( of course it is ). briefly she regrets not bringing her camera with her, doesnât quite trust her memory enough, but there will be other nights - she HOPES there will be other nights - and there are things that even she canât capture down a lens. â iâm awfully glad you came. i donât know anyone else - youâre sort of my knight in shining armour tonight. and iâm- iâm very glad to see you again, truth be told. â
Nancy almost always regrets coming to these sorts of events. It seems that the doctors at Brightwood can come up with any number of reasons to throw a party, and when she doesnât show up sheâs labeled not much fun or a poor sport. But that familiar voice changes her entire outlook, and she gives Larmaâs hand a gentle squeeze once theyâre finally side by side in the crowd. âThank you. I nearly changed my mind halfway here, but Iâm glad I didnât.â She pauses, looking out over the sea of faces. So sure of herself normally, her voice falters. âI...I can make some introductions if youâd like.â

ATTICUS QUICKLY FINDS HIS NOTEPAD AND PEN THAT IS ALWAYS LEFT ON THE COUNTER TABLE. He likes to listen while he takes notes; his own shorthand really only decipherable to him. His attention is fully on Velma, quietly jotting names, situations - anything that will help him later on.Â
âI donât believe I know much âbout Ms. Hollis, but I am aware of the Hollis family in itself. Very wealthy, from what I understand.â but he murmurs it, as if talking to himself as he jots down a few more things.Â
âIf itâs provinâ Ms. Hollisâ sanity, then youâll also need a doctor. Whatâs her cousinâs name? Youâll need reliable characters to testify in court, but if what I can gather âbout Ms. Hollisâ cousin is correct, then they ainât planninâ on playinâ fair.â
Itâs as if an electric jolt goes through her as she suddenly remembers that heâll want money. Of course he will. Sheâs spent most of her life not having enough, but sheâs not smart enough to remember that a service like this might cost dearly. âSheâs got more money than anyone I ever met in my life. Guess thatâs why they named the town after her family. Sheâd give you as much money as you want, I knows it.âÂ
Velma shifts her legs several times, trying to guess what he might be doing. Suppose he comes to the conclusion that sheâs crazy too? That would put an end to everything. The thought makes a knot form in her stomach as she gets ready to answer his question. âMiriam Deering. Miss Charlotte says sheâs in public relations, that sounds real dirty to me. And Miss Charlotteâs doctor ainât much help. Dr. Drew...he used to be real stuck on Miss Miriam, and I guess he still is. Heâd probably say anythinâ to make her happy.â

âNow I do apologize for the wait,â reemerges from deeper in the house as he walks out, joining his guest who was sitting on his sofa by sitting across from her. âI had to put my children to bed; they get might riled up real quick if I donât read them a story. Jem has just âbout outgrown âem, but Scout can hold out for a few more years yet.â A warm smile as he speaks about his children as he removes his glasses, hooking them on his shirt pocket.
âYouâve come a mighty long way to Maycomb. What seems to be the trouble?â
@lavcnderladiesâ | atticus for whoever youâd like!
Velma canât help rubbing at her arm, a nervous tic sheâs had as long as she can remember. Nervous is such an understatement, for she stands to lose everything if Charlotte is taken away. The comments about children barely register, she finds it hard to feign interest in the subject.Â
âYou ever hear âbout Miss Charlotte Hollis?â she starts out, surprised at the sudden strength in her voice. âSheâs real important, âcept everyone thinks sheâs crazy, and her cousin wants to send her away to one of them crazy houses. Damn meanest woman ever walked the face of this earth, she just wants Miss Charlotteâs money all for herself. Youâre a lawyer, cainât you do somethinâ? Miss Charlotteâs all I got, and she ainât crazy. I been livinâ with her since we were both young, Iâd know if she was.âÂ
