a love letter to you
i wish you saw yourself the way that i see you. it's the cliché of all clichés. but you are so, so special to me, so consider this an ode to a few of the things i admire about you and what makes you, you. because erosion of sense of self(-worth) is absolutely something you do not deserve to feel.
i never thought i could have the pleasure of knowing someone like you so intimately. someone so bright, who knows so much about everything - history, (geo)politics, brotein/amino acids, paramedicine, etc. you are also so well-travelled, adventurous, brave, and you unapologetically grab life by the horns. a well-adjusted pseudo middle child - which is quite impressive, really. you're also well-spoken, eloquent, with an easy and entertaining prose. your intellect paired with your insatiable curiosity puts you wise beyond your years...which is saying a lot because you are oldddd.
i particularly love when we get lost in our 2 AM existential crises. the other day, when we were contemplating the meaning of life, you demonstrated your ability to see the forest for the trees - something I admittedly often fall short on. we could talk for hours about the vastness, reach, and omnipotence of the forest, but also appreciated the shape, colours, height etc. of each tree individually. that is to say, you have the capacity to toggle between these lenses, to observe big subjects at high level, but also ponder the uniqueness of each individual that makes up the big picture. for that alone, i could talk to you endlessly exploring different perspectives and ways to see the world. i'll never run out of conversation subjects with you.
to say i thoroughly enjoy that mind of yours would be an understatement. your wit is as sharp as a whip, your banter as blunt as the flattened back of your skull. even when we are not tackling the existential forest crisis, i get to enjoy your silly sense of humour and have my fill of little laughs. the best part is, i know that underneath that crusty, angry red, sun-burnt exterior, lies a big softie, who gets goosebumps from brooding crooners, weeps at poignant lyrics, and feels bittersweetness deep in his soul. for this, you fascinate me, and i love seeing the many different layers that make you up.
while i can lie in bed with you and talk endlessly about both trivial and hard-hitting subjects, i cherish the times we've been able to seek adventure. hiking, rollerblading, paddle boarding, winter car camping. the list is sadly too short thus far, but for this, i can only look forward to the time we get to have together. the thought of tackling our plentiful list excites me and brings me joy.
most importantly, you are a good person who simply wants to do good in this world, to leave it a better place than how he found it. i have such admiration for your convictions and principles, and the drive that allows you to commit to them every day. i am but one sad tree, a badly made amigurumi with poorly attached, useless limbs, who is chronically tired and complains a lot. but i'm a better tree (read: person) because of you and perhaps that makes the forest a little greener. xx.
