I’m one of your favourites? 😍 awe. Well okay.

1) I’m super empathetic. It can be really emotionally draining, but I also feel like it’s one of the best things about me. I can use it to help people feel better when things are wrong.

2) I’m heavily engaged in social justice.

3) I’m stubborn and determined. Again, it can be a problem when I bite off more than I can chew.

4) I’m a good writer. It feels weird saying this, because I honestly don’t feel like I deserve it most of the time but it is true. I work hard.

It’s a little disappointing that skallagrim gets used as an authority cause he holds things and talks about them. We do actually have instances where we parry with a discharged crossbow in primary sources.

On horseback you might only get one shot off with the thing before it becomes a handy piece of wood. Considering lance parries with the arm and hand do exist, a crossbow is actually an excellent tool to use instead. Parries should almost always be done as a deflection especially against heavy weapons. I can only think of one case where a heavy weapon’s attack is “blocked” in its path rather than set aside by a parry, from the top of my head, in any source i’ve ever seen.

Side note, Martin Hundsfelt instead advises cradling the crossbow in the crook of your left elbow and using the sword in your right. To reload he reccomends throwing the sword underneath your left leg and holding it there to free up both hands to prepare another shot.

generally the advantage of being a mounted archer rather than one on foot is you can skirmish, to maximise chances of causing damage by firing close but extract the archer after the shot. That said, recurve bows are in a totally different ballpark when it comes to this

I do really feel like the major thing to note here is the difference between a bow and a crossbow, which is pretty darn significant.

Also I actually know Skal and he works really hard not to comment on things without either acknowledging that he might not be an expert or foot-noting himself.
