Nine of Wands Upright Tarot Card Key Meanings:
Ongoing battle, battle weary, fatigue, drained of energy, nearly there, close to success, courage, persistence, perseverance, backbone, learning from past failure, gather your strength, fight your corner, last stand, guarded, wounded, expecting trouble, holding out, not working out as planned, setbacks, strength of will
Hey…hey, guys?
Those little herb pouches you get from your local occult store? The ones in the ziplock bags with only the herb name printed on it?
Stop using those in teas. They are not food-grade.
Please please please find a local herbarium instead.
Yikes! Yeah, most witch shops will say: not food-grade. Which bums me out, I love teas, but they're using their hands and other non-food-safe practices going on.
Some teashops have some amazing herbs. And online shops, like Mountain Rose Herbs are amazing. I've met them in person at fairs and ordered from them a bunch. Online, buying in bulk makes more sense, so partner up with friends and try splitting it once it arrives.
I honestly think one of the harder things about doing tarot (and other divination) for other people is knowing when Not to do a reading. The skill of Saying No is underappreciated. This means not just having a list of questions you won't answer but enforcing that list - and declining readings in the moment, too, even when they don't "technically" violate any rules.

Nervously, I pull from the tarot deck. It's the Nine of Clocks. My fate is revealed to me: It's my bedtime, and I gotta go to sleeps

*gently grabs Witchblr by the shoulders* It is okay for some things to not be perfect substitutes for other things. It is okay for there to be parts of something that you simply can't substitute out. It's okay for things to be hyperspecific. Drink some water.
"But if I can't use this substitute then I won't be able to do the thing."
Yes, sometimes you won't be able do things. So it goes.
Sometimes the answer to "can I make peach ice cream without peaches if I use carrot instead?" is No.
God, thank you, I KNEW there was a carrot cake counterpart to the peach ice cream, but I couldn't find it.
Lest we forget, the Venn Diagram of “banana” and “egg” may not be a perfect circle.
"Does a witch bottle have to contain piss?"
I guess not, but it's cooler if it does.
Pissing in bottles is honestly a rite of passage.
Also a show of solidarity with Amazon drivers.
[deactivating shitpost mode for a moment]
When I say "witch bottle" I do not mean any bottle spell. I mean the classic "nails and piss in a bottle as a decoy for malefic spells intended for you".
And in my opinion, it's gotta be piss. You get no street cred for trying to substitute vinegar. You will be the laughing stock of the devil's sacrament.
Okay, it's possible that I didn't fully deactivate shitpost mode...
Lisbeth at the devil's sacrament thought she could replace blood and piss in her witch's bottle with beet juice and turmeric 🙄💅 what is this, 1704?
Four of Swords. Art by Jesse Lonergan, from The Unveiled Tarot.
Remembering the person who, knowing that I'm nonbinary, told me that I need to carry a moonstone with me at all times because it balances the male and female energies and when I tried to redirect the conversation by telling them that I prefer labradorite when it comes to feldspar they seemed confused and I had to explain gemstone classifications outside of their metaphysical meanings.
They also got kinda mad when I said I wasn't into crystal healing. Like... not their words, but definitely a sense of like 'how can you be a spiritual/witchy person and not believe in crystals?'
It's like... yeah I believe that stones can do stuff, but I think I get more mileage woo-wise out of the brick dust I stole from a former burlesque house than I do from a random crystal. And it's not saying that they don't work, though I remain skeptical of how their correspondences are assigned, just that I don't typically USE them.
Oh you're a homemade witch not store bought

Tarot Is A Game (and It's Fine)
It started with "the tarot was created by the Egyptians". It developed into "the tarot was created by Kabbalists". Now some want to convince us that the tarot was created by Mary Magdalene or the Cathars or whatever. Some people are desperate for a cool and broody origin story, as if it could justify the fact that they shuffle little pieces of cardboard for answers about life (or to justify the price tag to the saps they try to sell books to).
Professional historians have pretty much concluded that the tarot is simply a beautifully illustrated medieval Italian card game with allegorical pictures that most people back in those days would have been able to immediately recognize. So the tarot was not created for divination, fortune-telling or hiding deep secrets. So what? Tea leaves aren't created to be read, nor clouds to be skried into. Dice were created to have fun, yet witches roll them to get answers. What better than a card game to reflect the playful interrelation of events in the game of life?
