i love that the most recent trend with gacha games seems to be just... removing the gacha. the genre is getting so overdone that even the fans of it celebrate it being removed from the new games

I realized that games like Balatro, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers, and Cloverpit, that take what are normally just gambling games and remove the gambling with money and replace it with actually fun game mechanics, are following a similar sort of trend. It's almost like GAMBLING MAKES GAMES WORSE

I'm trying to imagine the whole "gacha game are Good Actually because the gacha business model enables narrative structures that wouldn't work in conventional games" thing applied to literally any other similarly predatory monetisation scheme. I want to see the story that can only be told through the medium of battle royale lootboxes.
