What interest me the most was that texting is the new email, which it is, but to ask permission to text before because texting is more intimate and can be an invasion so to speak. I do believe texting your boss about work related issues may be inappropriate to some. My manager will text me if when I'm off sometimes asking if I can come in but that ok to me because I don't mind. Some may find that unprofessional, I think it all has to do with the kind of person you work for is when it's okay to text or email.

I found this article most interesting by the great points Lauren Semanick on how companies should go about when enforcing social media rules and guidelines in the workplace. She explains how there is a fine line between freedom of speech and protecting the image of the brand. She goes on to explain how companies should hold “social media etiquette seminars” to show social media use that is acceptable and what is not. I think this is a great way to talk as a group with the staff of what personal vs. professional use of media means to them. That way everyone can be on the same page on what would be considered acceptable media usage. By educating the staff with correct usage and guidelines for the whole staff to agree on and understand is a great first step to navigate to acceptable social media use and eliminate misusage.

One of the most used recruiting tools from social media is linkedIn. It is your virtual resume displayed online for recruiters to see. What is so great about linkedIn is that you can show your work experience, internships, awards, volunteer work, and show your network connections to provide your qualifications to future employers.
