The carriers, whose 2014 merger attempt was blocked, will face scrutiny from three major agencies, including the Justice Department.

The article discusses how T-Mobile wants to buy Sprint in order to compete with China’s next gen technology, provide jobs to rural areas and keep costs low to consumers. It is a bit surprising that the Trump administration wants to block this as it would seem to fit with their agenda of bringing jobs back to Americans. This is an example of the government’s regulation over the media and how conglomerates continue to get bigger and bigger.

The new Han Solo movie will be coming out in May 2018.  This movie is getting a lot of hype and attraction as a result of the Star Wars label which has been a “hit” for decades.  Because of the stardom of Star Wars, regardless if this movie is a good one or not, it will be popular because it is a star wars movie rather than some original movie that has no past connections or popularity. Because of this a lot of profit will be made regardless of the actual quality of the movie.  When the movie drops, we will see if the movie’s quality or the name “Star Wars” makes the profit.

A new editorial calls for pediatricians to add questions to regular screenings.

This is a controversial topic especially in recent years with mental health becoming a major issue in the United States, especially in our youth. It is also about privacy and surveillance, and whether or not social media and your use with it should be questioned by a doctor. However, the article does give tips on how parents and children can have a healthy relationship on social media together and to use it responsibly.

It’s interesting what platforms people use for certain messages. Twitter seems to biggest platform for content like this, whereas it is less likely to see this kind of message on Instagram.

The MeToo activist is on the 2018 TIME 100 list

“So first I have to start by, in the black conscious community, whenever we gather to celebrate, we bring the names of our ancestors into the room, and so I want to bring the name of my grandfather, Joseph Burke; my great‑grandmother Abel Williams; my Aunt Mertis James; and my stepfather Wesley Thompson, into the room.

And so I have a lot of people who have inspired me through my life, but I think this moment is really important for me to raise a glass to all the black and brown girls around the world, particularly the black and brown girls like me. I raise a glass to six‑year‑old Tarana, who was confused and didn’t know about the things that had been happening to her and spent years and years and years trying to figure it out until somebody else let me know that I was not alone and gave me the courage to tell other people that they’re not alone.

And so I raise my glass to survivors, I raise my glass to little black and brown girls like me. Hopefully they look at me in this moment and they find hope and they’re inspired, and they know that they’re not alone and they’ll never be alone as long as I have a microphone.”

The #metoo movement is giving women an outlet and the courage to speak up and tell their stories so people can become more aware of sexual assault and how common it is.

Twitch, Youtube, and content creating in general can have a massive impact on the community.  Many of the online content creators host charity streams in attempt to earn donations to support a charities.  This is an example of DrDisRespect’s charity stream to support the families of troops that are overseas.  As shown, he earned over $17,000 in 5 hours which is a massive accomplishment.  Charities are very successful when well-known content creators put their popularity to charitable use. Many content creators are very helping and are always looking to raise money for many charities and organizations as possible.

The role that social media plays in the NFL Draft

Many incoming rookies who are a part of the 2017 NFL Draft use social media.

This video discusses how NFL draft prospects are effected by their online and social presences online.  Many drafts prospects are hurt by their presence online as a result of pictures, retweets, etc.  They argue that nothing on social media can help a player’s draft stock, only hurt it.  Many players have had their dreams of the playing in the NFL ruined because of social media.  This video is to let players know to be intelligent and smart when using social media and not endanger the draft stock.

This made me think about a post i read about a woman in Arizona who was wrongly arrested in a burger king. The cops arrested and miss treating her without knowing the situation in which they were called.

Inside the Museum of Selfies in California

The Museum of Selfies in Glendale California started life as a pop up, but has been so successful it has extended its opening twice.

Selfies are something that is a type of picture taking method and celebration of the self, that now has a museum! 

Since it is a type of media that is used by people now, we might as well document it like in a museum!
