As talented and depressed as always, I see
An hour early. Bethany had arrived exactly an hour early to the restaurant that she was meeting Nora at. Everything was to her precision, she had made sure of it. From the decorations on the table to the seating arrangement of the two chairs, it was all to her liking.
She sits with a mimosa in front of her, her purse to the side, as she waits for Nora. Just as the time reads twelve, the girl was walking towards their table. Rising from her seat, Bethany extends open arms to the girl. “Nora!” She says with a smile. “I’m glad you could make it.” She pulls her into a warm hug.
Pulling away, Bethany takes a seat. “I really hope you find this place alright. I looked it up on Yelp and it had good reviews, so I figured why not? Now that I think about it, I should have asked you where we should have gone, I’m so sorry.”
The waiter arrives, to which Beth gestures towards the girl sitting across from her. “Can I get you started on anything to drink, miss?” He asks, glancing towards Nora.

The place Bethany picked is real nice, more lavish than Nora had been expecting too. The girl was on time for once, dressed in a charcoal colored mini skirt, a form fitting pale blue button down, and her thickest pair of stockings to keep her warm in the chilling London weather. Her mousy brown hair’s pulled back into a loose low bun, leaving just her bangs and a few strands of hair down to frame her face.
For all of this to work, she’d have to sell it well, Bethany wasn’t stupid, she could tell. Nora smiles brightly into the hug, squeezing the girl a bit around the waist before pulling out of it.
Once that’s over, she sits down at the table. “I’ve heard a few friends talk about this place, only good things too. I’m excited to try it.” She assures her, words light and bubbly as they leave her lips. “I’m not sure if I’ll be able to eat much, I think I’m starting to develop morning sickness, it’s not too bad right now though.” Yeah, that’s good. Doesn’t sound too rehearsed at all to her.
“Oh, uh. Could I get whatever is your best herbal tea? With two sugars and a splash of cream, please?” She asks ever so politely.
Honesty hour!
So, come on, mess me up

The feminine urge to argue w a man for fun
“During Prohibition, black market buyers poured gunpowder onto liquor and lit it on fire to show it hadn’t been watered down. If it ignited, they called it proof—proof it was real, proof it wasn’t just poison; darling, it has been one year two weeks and five days and we are still burning.”
— @brennatwohy
Labored breaths curse the air to the left of her head, tangled hair splayed against a satin pillowcase, eyes trapped in the beige ceiling paint. Sweat beads on her skin, bare beneath a pale pink sheet.
She’s more prone to boredom than most, she knows that. Her mind needs more stimuli or the boredom becomes intolerable, unbearable at times.
Oliver’s become boring, the thrill of their deceit faded long ago, the satisfaction of surviving the relationship he helped take part in destroying has gone too. Now, her connection to him feels stagnant, there’s nothing worthwhile there anymore.
Though his current role in her life is important for her games, for now she’ll have to suffer through the dullness that occasionally comes along with it.
Weight shifts on the bed before she’s lying on it alone, she turns and plucks a pack of cigarettes off the nightstand, American Spirits. Then lights it as she leans back on her elbows, smoke engulfs the space around her as she locks eyes with him. He’s pulling his trousers up and buttoning them.
“I have to meet with the band in an hour.” Oliver’s lying again, his voice gets a bit higher when he does that. Not that it matters, he’s not cheating just picked up a habit he can’t shake and is in need of some more pearly white powder and isn’t keen on sharing it. She knows that already.
“I might have wished you more honest, but then what would we have had in common?” Nora says amusingly, smiling before she inhaled another puff of smoke. Oliver’s face distorts in confusion, like it so often does. He doesn’t get it, but that’s fine. That’s expected.
“Brenna Twohy. She’s a poet, from the states. California if my memory serves me right, which it usually does.” She explains, though by the looks of it, Oliver still isn’t connecting the dots correctly. Maybe not even at all.
Nora’s eyes roll all playful like. His constant state of perplexity was endearing at times, annoying at others. “Don’t bother trying to figure it out, baby. Have fun with your friends, there’s a hundred pounds in the draw just there” Her fingers point, cigarette clasped between them, towards her dresser. “Bring me back some, won’t you?”
Oliver’s getting it now, but doesn’t argue his innocence. Instead he pulls his jumper over his head and walks over to the drawer, pocketing the bills once it’s open. “I’ll be back in a few hours.” He leans over the bed and kisses her, she’s smirking at him when he pulls away from it.
The rooms empty save her a few moments later, leaving her alone with her thoughts. Once her cigarettes burnt out she smudges it in the ashtray next to the bed, picks her phone up and sends a text to an old friend. A much more interesting game to be played than the one that left a few minutes prior.
“My body is an altar./So, I am a bed of lies.”
