Common sense is such a raw commodity these days, it has become a super power.
Poppy Power
Thousands of people shared the same idea to visit the installation. The closer one got, the quieter it became. There were crowds of people gathered at one place in the capital, without any of the normal hustle and bustle.
It was as if everyone that had gathered in the space around the Tower of London had entered a state of shared consciousness and respect: respect for every life that each poppy represented and respect for each other.
Reflect
In terms of both leadership and follow-ship, it illustrates the importance of taking the time to stop and reflect on what is actually happening in the space around you; the people, the environment and the space which we create for ourselves.
“I have an equal work/life balance… I work 12 hours a day, seven days a week.”
How many of the thousands visited ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ and saw only a sea of red, missing the beautiful detail of each poppy? As we go through our busy every-day lives how often do we take the time to see the ‘poppies’ around us? How often do we miss the little details that carry most importance?
Creating the space and taking the time to sense and feel each of the little details can only make us better people and in turn improved leaders…
Leading from within
You don’t need to be the ‘leader’ to lead. How we choose to govern ourselves and our personal and professional relationships is reflected by the choices we make and the details that we see. The little details count.
Take the time to ‘feel’ the individual petals on each poppy, you might just find yourself surprised at the importance of the insignificance moments you have been missing.
