Yule
In Australia, June heralds the first official day of winter and the lead up to the Winter Solstice. The days are cold, the nights are long and it’s a fantastic time to cozy up somewhere warm and work some magic.
Whether you’re preparing for Yule, practicing your tarot practice or simply looking for ways to align with the season, I hope these pages inspire your own winter journey.

Some witchy memes I made
Bless His patience, I’m notoriously oblivious.
What finally tipped me off was my mother showing me something she’d ordered online through the Hellenic Post, whose logo is quite literally an image of Lord Hermes.
This is probably the best meme I've ever made and I can't believe I never posted it here
Simple Ward Against Spirits (and Other Varieties)
Forbidden peanut butter cookies
I've been very much enjoying working with a new style of ward. It's pertinent materia magica blended into air-dry clay, worked into small disks stamped with protective symbols, and hung up near doors and windows (or carried).
Sometimes I paint them; this time I just filled in the symbols with India ink.
The recipe is quite nice as you can make several little wards for the effort of one spell. And they work up pretty quickly.
The recipe:
3 substances aligning with intent (sets given below)
A small handful of air-dry clay
Paint or ink to decorate, as desired
Thread or cord to hang up, if desired
Clear-dry glue (modge-podge used in picture) to seal clay, especially helpful to block strong-smelling herbs
Steps:
Work over each substance individually to ensure they are carriers of power. Ensure each substance is empowered and aligned with its duties before moving on.
Blend all three substances into some air-dry clay (the clay itself is not worked with as a correspondence, but could be, if you're into it).
Divide the air-dry clay into individual balls and flatten them out into disks. You may have to add plenty of extra water to counteract the dehydrating effect of salt or herbs.
Poke a hole at the top of each disk (I used the back end of a matchstick) if you want to hang them up.
On one side of the disk, carve or paint any protective symbol pertinent to your faith. Pictured, an equilateral cross.
On the other side of the disk, carve or paint a symbol that expresses the specific sort of protection you're working (such as a very simplified sigil, or perhaps elemental or planetary signs you're calling on, or a minimalist animal, and so forth).
Once the clay is dry, coat with a clear layer of glue or modge-podge. This helps protect against moisture and minor chips but primarily is to stop the charm from having a strong odor if you use, say, garlic and dill.
Combinations of Materia:
Use perhaps an eighth of a teaspoon of each to start with; I find the clay can hold a lot of foreign materials, but expect it to significantly change texture and dry out. Of course, use any materials you prefer.
Use only dried herbs. Fresh will not do.
Against Evil
Dill (to perceive, forewarn, and shelter against against evil)
Garlic (to protect against evil)
Salt (to neutralize evil)
Against Unwanted Spirits
Garlic (to protect against the uninvited)
Red pepper (to set boundaries against the uninvited)
Basil (to guard against transgressors)
Against Unwanted Energies
Rosemary (to shield and shelter)
Clove (to create a barrier that limits energies)
Salt (to neutralize unwanted energies)
Notes:
The spell can "end" at any number of moments; you can seal it once you mark symbols, or only after it's dried and painted, or only after you've done knot magic to weave a special hanger, etc.
IME, a very powerful set of wards can be made by linking 4 such disks, each one to a different element, and hanging them in the cardinal directions as your path specifies; thus assigning an elemental guardian working in tandem with his brothers to guard those roads of egress. Try making a base formula shared between all four disks, and then adding a unique ingredient to each one of them that corresponds with the element.
Air-dry clay is fragile. These wards are not especially suited to be carried around, but can be carried in a pinch. If you like, the idea of a ward breaking when it's done it's job is very applicable to brittle clay disks.
You can work greater magic into them; knot magic for the hanger, earth magic for the clay, layering on more power if you paint, and so forth.
Magical Oil Recipes - Buffs and Blessings Edition
For anyone looking to brew up a potion for the purposes of augmentation or blessing, here are some recipes I’ve created that you might find useful.
To prepare them, blend the ingredients in such proportions as feels correct for your purposes (or as supplies allow). Use dried material except where indicated. Place a few spoonfuls in a mason jar with a screwtop lid and fill the jar with a bland oil of your choice. (Vegetable oil of the sort you would buy for cooking works fine.) Screw the lid on tightly and shake well to combine, then leave the jar in a dark dry place for 2-4 weeks to steep.
Once steeped, prepare a clean storage bottle (also with a secure lid) and label with the type of oil and the bottling date. Strain the oil through paper towels or cheesecloth to remove the plant material, then bottle immediately. Store away from sunlight and heat for up to one year. Use for spellwork as you see fit.
(Please note that NONE of these potions are meant to be taken internally by any means. Observe all proper safety measures related to glass, fire, and potentially harmful plants as necessary during preparation.)
*- Ingredient is potentially harmful if inhaled or ingested. **- Ingredient should not be used or handled if you are pregnant or nursing.

A poem for Hestia + Digital offering
Kind-hearted Hestia, shining forever bright
Throned in the heart of the home, you of the warm smile
Both first and last, lovely daughter of time
Honored by gods and mortals alike, beloved by all
Reverenced queen, veiled in smoke and flame
Maiden goddess, dancing with such grace
In every twist and turn of the fire at the hearth
Lighting up our lives when all is dark
When freezing cold, it is you to whom we run
For you welcome all into your tender hug
Dispelling our shivering worries and burning our fear away
Holding us by the hand and reminding us that you’re there
Rich in blessings, endless gifts spring from your soft hand like shimmering sparks
Putting food upon our plates and marvelous people by our sides
Those who shows us what it means to love and to be loved
Those who we call our family with such pride and joy
You delight yourself in the baking of bread and in the stirring of bubbling pots
Upon the brewing of tea and in the sizzling meals grilling over hot coals
You rejoice in the laughter of children and in every mother’s hugs
Every time a grandparent hands their grandchildren some candy, every time two siblings share a joke
You bring forth pets of all kinds into our arms, making them feel safe and comforting us too
Giving us a chance to nurture another being, and to nurture our own souls as we do
Teaching us over and over again that we’ve got much left to learn
Searing our lives with sweet memories that will carry forth into the rest of our days
Yours is the planting of gardens, the dirt that fills the pot
The well-earned pride that surges trough our bodies upon seeing our cherished plants grow
Verdant, florid dame, perfumed in the freshness of spring
Inspiring us to mold a house into a home, a sanctuary of our own for our essence to live
You wait for us at the doorway after a long day
Whispering into our ear: “It’ll be okay”
You lovingly wipe away our bitter tears when we need to cry things out
You joyfully cheer us on when we celebrate and laugh
Hestia of the many shapes and of the many names, may you light your fire inside my heart
For I will tend to it always in my acts
Let me be as kind to others as you’ve been to us, and let me not forget to be kind to myself
Hail, goddess Hestia, the ever-burning immortal flame
ㅤ ─── ⊹⊱Energy Sampling⊰⊹ ───
════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹════
After my most recent post as to what energy work is exactly, you may be wondering how you, as a beginner, may be able to start work on it. Here’s one method I call “Energy Sampling”
This method does not rely on this natural gift. It’s a good technique because if you don't want to make energy sense, you simply don't.
○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○
To do this we are going to send out what are commonly referred to as tendrils. It’s like a magickal tongue in a way. One would push out energy and pull it in again. This picks up the energy of other things onto your own so when you pull it back in you’ll be able to recognize the object's properties. To practice this you should begin by centering.
You’re going to pick a part of your body to center on and sit with your energy. For everyone, energy looks different. It could look like smoke, slime, electricity, etc. You’re going to imagine the energy in any way you wish. Find a small item like a trinket, coin, stone, or anything else of that caliber to practice on. Now, in a comfortable position, slow your breathing and take all the energy into the body part of your choice, stomach, heart, or throat for example. While holding the item in your hand, you’re going to attempt to push your energy to the object. Once the energy is felt in your hand with a gentle tingling feeling, you’re going to push it slowly into the object. Only do this by the centimeter. Nudge your energy out, then proceed to draw it back in repeatedly. With this method, you should have outright authority over the movement of your energy. It may take weeks to perfect. If you’ve exercised this technique before or have a natural inclination to energy work, this may take a matter of nights to proficiently master. With this, You should remain in complete authority to change this practice on and off at your discretion.

How to Write Your Own Spells
There are lots of ways to create spells, from planning everything to the minutest detail ahead of time to absolutely flying by the seat of your pants in the moment. If you'd like to write your own spells, either for use in your craft or as a creative exercise, here are some suggested steps that I use in my own practice:
1) Determine the intent or goal of your spell. Decide, first and foremost, what you want the spell to do. Refine your goal if necessary and try not to be too nebulous. Your intent tells the spell what it's meant to do. A more focused goal may increase the chances of success.
2) Determine how you want the spell to manifest. Decide how the spell should work and what the result should look like. This is a good time to build in a sign of success, especially for spells that may not work in an obvious or visible way.
3) Determine what or whom the spell will affect. If the spell is to have a target, be it a person or a place or an animal or an object, decide what that should be and how they or it will be represented in the casting.
4) Determine how long the spell is meant to work. If your spell is timebound or has a deadline, decide what that will be. If the spell is meant to work long-term, you may want to check in and refresh it from time to time. (Not every spell will be timebound. Many spells will simply expire when they have fulfilled their purpose or if they are blocked or circumstances are not favorable.)
5) Determine the timing of the spell, if applicable. Not everyone uses celestial or astrological timing for their spells, but if you do, look into the prevailing conditions and decide on an advantageous time for your casting. (Please note that magical timing can only enhance your spell and casting something on the "wrong" day will not necessarily cause it to fail.)
6) Determine what methods and materials you want to use to cast the spell. Decide how you're going to go about performing the casting, whether you're doing a ritual or making a charm or just using energy. If you're going to need a ritual space or physical components, plan that out and make sure it fits with what you want to do.
7) Determine the words, if any, which will empower the spell. If you want to include a prayer or a petition or a song or an incantation with your spell, decide what that should be. This is not strictly necessary and the words need not be spoken aloud. (Rhyming incantations are not required, but if you prefer them that way, you can certainly do so.)
8) Prepare the materials for casting the spell. Get all your necessaries together ahead of time. Make sure you have everything you need, that tools and components are in good and useable condition, prepare your workspace, and make sure everything is within easy reach so you don't have to stop and search for things in the middle of your casting. (And for goodness sake, if you're working with open flame, observe fire safety and tie your hair and sleeves back.)
9) Finalize details and perform the casting. When you're ready to begin, try to eliminate as many possibilities for distraction or interruption as possible. Go over your spell and components one more time, then proceed with casting the spell.
10) Record the particulars for future reference and to determine how well the spell worked. Make a record of the spell, including your goal, how it should manifest, the words and components used, the date of the casting, the casting method and procedure, and how the casting went. If there are any additional details or observations that seem important, include those as well. This will serve as a useful learning tool in the future and will allow you to check your work if the results make themselves known.
It's useful to write spells from time to time if the inspiration strikes you, in order to better understand how they fit together and how they work. Plus it's a fun and creative journaling exercise and recording the spells you cast a great way to measure your progress later on.

Witchcraft 101:
Cleansing vs Uncrossing vs Banishing
Alright witches. Lets dive into some witchy basics and discuss the differences between cleansing, uncrossing and banishing. This will hopefully help you differentiate between them. But.. lets be honestly if you do something like call a spell an uncrossing when "technically" doing a banishing, who cares its all in good spirit. The reason i think its good to have a difference in mind between these falls into how you handle a spell. If I'm doing an uncrossing vs a banishing i would choose different spell ingredients, maybe work with different gods, or choose a different element to work with.
Cleansing: I consider cleansings as the foundation and most basic of these. Its almost an umbrella term the other two fall under. All banishings are cleansings, but not all cleansings are a banishing. Cleansings are when you're trying clear something away. Most often people will use this term in day to day workings and general upkeep to make sure nothing has stuck to them. This would include more casual things like smoke cleansing, showering and asking the water to cleanse you, sound cleansing, etc. Its not a full spellworking or ritual, but still done with energy and intention. Sometimes you may do a cleansing and realize whatever is there, is stuck deeper then you expected. So you take the next steps and do a more "intense" cleansing like an uncrossing or banishing.
Uncrossing Spells: Uncrossing specifically refers to removing unwanted energy. Usually when discussing what is an uncrossing, I sperate it from just a cleansing by describing it as a very intense cleansing where you're trying to strip away intense and specific energy. These are more work and a step up from an everyday cleansing for more intense scenarios. This is very spirit focused; think of it as taking out the bad and putting in the good. Some types of spells I would consider an uncrossing are: removing hexes/jinx/curses, removing the evil eye, spiritual detoxes, road openers, removing any stubborn energy, removing feelings, etc. I associate uncrossings with water: it's soaking in and getting that energy out. I would choose herbs/spell ingredients that are uplifting and purifying. Think salt, rosemary, rue, and lemons.
Banishing Spells: Banishing spells remove unwanted entities, spirits or people. You can use it to get rid of very deep rooted things like habits or insecurities. Banishings are quite a strong forms of spellwork. You're really kicking something out and away from you when you do a banishing. Its connected to more deep rooted things that you're trying to remove from your life. Some types of spells I could consider a banishing: cord cutting, exorcisms, banishing a spirit attached to you, getting rid of insecurities, freezers, etc. I associate banishings with fire. Burn and gtfo. I would choose herbs that have more of a kick to them and are defensive. Think nettle, blackberry leaves, cloves, even pepper in some cases.
Please note this doesn't have to be something strict. Like i said at the beginning this is just a guide that will help you differentiate so you can tackle the spellwork as effectively as possible.
