Welcome to Lotro à la Mode, aka the Leafyfoots Wardrobe.

Hail friends and well met! I am Valky™ Leafyfoots, Seeker of Rare Cosmetics in Arda, LOTRO Outfitting Enthusiast, and Farmer of T2C/T5 for Pretty Gear. You may recognize my cosmetic shenanigans on Instagram (@/leafyfoots). Feel free to call me Lady Leafyfoots (or Valk, like most people do).

This side blog is intended to document my outfits and other LOTRO screenshots because infinite scroll without search on Instagram is a really questionable design choice. I want people (including myself) to be able to search for outfits by character race, class, and color palette. I play exclusively female characters. Apologies to folks looking for male character outfit ideas! In general, I will include the names and dyes of pieces used, though usually not the location or method by which to acquire the item because I am lazy and will not back-fill old descriptions. LOTRO Wiki will be your friend in cases like these if you are looking to find particular items. Of course, you are also welcome to just ask me here and I’ll do my best to help out.

Most of my documented outfits are original creations, but I also use adapted appearances created by other LOTRO outfit bloggers when adventuring around that may also appear on here. These will always be noted in the descriptions!

Please prepare yourself for an onslaught of LOTRO outfits from the last year or two. I haven’t gone through my archives dating back to 2013, but you better believe those might show up here as well one day.

Lotro à la Mode - Year in Review 2022

Hail friends, and well met! It is, once again, time for year in review. As always, a huge thank you for supporting my work! I am eternally grateful that you enjoy the content I create, hodgepodge as it may be... and I hope that it makes your day a little brighter!

As a result of my adventures in other realms, my LOTRO presence has been notably more quiet. I've (screen)shot 15 character outfits and 3 war-steed outfits. Lotro à la Mode celebrated its second public anniversary. Both this Tumblr blog (@leafyfoots) and the associated Instagram (@leafyfoots) continue to be the two places where I post outfits.

Continuing with this year’s activity trends, the cadence with which new outfits are created will roughly align with festivals and new content updates.

Hi Leafy,

I would like to ask you for help searching for the name of a specific cloak. Some time ago I saw a cloak on a character in the game that I immediately wanted for my RK. Unfortunately, that player was anonymous, AFK, and logged out before we could send an email with a question. And I couldn't catch the nickname. A classic situation :) The cloak was sewn with flames, so it looked as if individual pieces of fabric stood out plastically and were sewn onto the base. They were individual smaller flames. I can't remember more. I've been searching the web in vain and still can't find it. Do you have an idea, which cloak this one should be? Thanks!

Unfortunately, your description is rather vague. I’m thinking perhaps one of the Isengard cloaks, since the flames on the Minas Morgul cloaks are more “magical” looking. Do any of these look familiar?

Cantaloupe Coloured - Elf Loremistress

The default colors on the Midsummer pieces from the now defunct Summer Festival years ago are a pretty cream, orange, and green. Due to exact shade of orange, when I look at these pieces, I can only think of cantaloupe, so here we are.

Tavern Charm - Hobbit Guardian

The new Innkeeper’s Dress dyes in a washed out tone, with an undyeable brown section at the upper torso. So I decided to play up the brown tones, and went with a rust dye that resulted in a golden hue. To highlight the gold, I used the Songmaster’s Hat with bright gold trim and the Traditional Holbytla Mantle in gold for a rustic feel.

Leisurely - Hobbit Minstrel

The new Robe of Leisure comes from the festivity tokens and has large sections of undyeable dirty white. The gold trim also has a bit of a greenish undertone, making the trim a bit of a garish yellow color. I’m not sure I’m a fan of it, but decided to emphasize the bright yellow tone of the trim. I went with the Bounder hat’s bright yellow ribbon along with the bright yellow gems of the Threshold cloak.

Autumn Bard - Hobbit Minstrel

Comfy minstrel vibes for a hobbit visiting the local farmers faire!

Another autumn themed outfit, this time build around Angolham. Only the sleeves dye on that chest piece, so I wanted to bring out the sienna colors of the plate. The Learned hat has rune markings along the ribbon that is a similar tone as the chest piece. To balance the visual weight of the hat, I used the matching Boots of the Learned.

Next I wanted to add autumn leaf details. The Elegant Holbytla Shoulderguards come in a lovely brown tones, and I added extra crimson on the leaf shape outline. One of my favorite cloaks -- Cloak of the Autumn Traveller -- is a fantastic cloak with clear leaf details too. And it dyes beautifully. One more leaf detail is the Tawarwaith leggings. This piece dyes a little greyer, so I went with crimson for a more burgundy-ish result.

This outfit is not very sharp in terms of trim details or color blocking. So for the gloves, I went with the light Bard gloves, which have a more natural sienna-ish detailing, along with a little fur trim.

Of course, for a minstrel, a suitable instrument is a must. The Bardic fiddle comes in a rich mahogany color, with a bright trim that is similar to the leaf trim of the cloak.

Faire Dandy - Human Champion

A mildly extravagant outfit for a noble visiting farmers faire.

Farmers Faire is the time of year when I start thinking about early autumn, even though it’s now merged with summer fest. And with autumn, it is the best time to use lots of rich browns and warm red tones. In this outfit, I went with warm earthy greens paired with deep reds. This particular chest has very sharp trim. It has undyeable crimson/burgundy ish sleeves that I thought looked nice with a very warm green. To bring out the trim, I went with the Brawler starter capelet. The short length of the cape also gives off a more casual feel. Unfortunately, the sleeves and pant legs of the chest piece are bulkier than many of the older gear pieces, so there were not that many glove options that didn’t clip though.

To add some autumn cozy details, I went with the Westfold fur pauldrons and medium Thranduil boots. To distribute the brown fur tones throughout the outfit, I added the Bowmaster Gloves in walnut brown and the farmer hat in ranger green.

Bulwark of the Foggy Evening - Beorning

I’m preparing a couple of outfits for Farmers Faire in a week!

Meanwhile, I had made this one for one of my beornings that played up the default grey-blue of the starter gear and the default color of the Osgiliath heavy chest piece. For a luxuriously trimmed look, I looked for other pieces of similar trim color -- sort of a shire peach-like muted gold/brass. The Wildermore heavy crafted pieces seemed to fit that description, with the added bonus of a heavy plated look to match the chest. Similarly, the boots had such trim, although I'm pretty sure these boots share a skin with some other Rohan-era heavy boots.

Unity - War-steed

Matching war-steed outfit for the Unity outfit set. :>

I focused on the turquoise and gold palette. Since the Unity outfit set is based on the Alliance of the Third Age cloak with the entwining branches theme, I went for pieces that had similarly prominent gold filigree detailing. The Forest Spring pieces fit well and it’s leafy detail also complement the flowers/nature themes in the outfit.

To bring more plants throughout the war-steed outfit, I used my favorite Lasgalen Tail. Both Unity outfits made heavy use of bold and bright gold details, so I opted for the Regal Revelry head-piece and Unflagging Dragon leggings for some equally bold gold details. If you’d like a little extra golden glow, Lamp of the Northern Herald is an excellent accessory choice (second image).

Unity (Robes ver.) - Elf Loremistress

While I was building the tunic version of the Unity outfit, I had thought to use the Robe of the Lady’s Wisdom because of how the entwined branch detail on the back of the robes complemented the entwined branches of the cloak. Since this version of the outfit focused heavily on that “entwining” theme, I used the Mantle of Entwining Blossoms. This mantle is a bright gold that complements the bold golds of the robe that usually overpowers other gold trims in this game.

Boots of Bright Company dye well and when dyed gold, also match the heavy gold tones of the torso. I used the medium Threshold bracers because of the bright yellow gem detail, but it only peeks out from certain angles. Thus, I would consider that piece to be optional.

To match the tunic version of the Unity outfit, I also used the Poinsettia Crown in gold. For the weapon, I went with the level 59 third age loremaster staff, which has a butterfly shape. The gold of the weapon is a bit darker, so I added the light aura to brighten it.

Unity (Tunic ver.) - High Elf Minstrel

I've been waiting to use the Alliance of the Third Age cloak for the Midsummer festival since it fits well thematically~! Unity is a pair of outfits for the Great Wedding, featuring shades of turquoise and silvery gold accents.

The cloak’s default color is a muted turquoise, so I went with pieces with a slightly muted tone such that turquoise dye wouldn’t stand out too much. The trims are a blend of muted earthy gold and silver. Many Mordor pieces fit this theme so I went with the medium Alliance top, which has silver filigree trim and gold tinted dyeable sections.

I used the Dirge-singer bracers and Hopeful Melody shoes to bring the turquoise throughout the outfit with some more gold trim. And of course, for formal occasions such as the Great Wedding, an elaborate circlet is a must. I used the Poinsettia Crown in gold for some extra volume around the head and I liked how the leaves have a bit of gold along the edges.

Also made a matching war-steed outfit for this one! Details to in a later post.

Bright Warrior - War-steed

With the convenience of not having to alt hop across all my storage toons to find items, I’ve taken a liking to making standalone war-steed outfits. The new Crystal Resolve WS cosmetics have some nice pieces that work well with other bright white pieces.

Crystalline Polyhedron - Hobbit Minstrel

An attempt at a more dwarvish styled outfit built around the new Chestplate of Crystal Resolve. LOTRO uses a lot of geometric shapes for dwarf armour, so I looked for other pieces of gear that have lots of angular details. In particular, the Ceremonial Shoulders of the Brazen Call has a geometric lattice detail that rarely fit into any other outfit I make. These shoulders have a bit of sienna fur along the edge, so I settled on a sienna/silver/gold palette.

The plates on the chest are a bright silver with a slight blue tint. Faramir’s Faithful pieces have some bright white detailing that sort of matches the color, so I used the circlet in sienna. The gold trim on the chest is also a relatively unique shade of gold, so I opted for a blend of silver and gold to balance it out with the Expeditionary Gauntlets. For more silver-white color around the feet, I used Woodsman's Supple Boots with it’s white-tinted plate detail.  For more geometric details, I added the Ice Flower Cloak.

For the weapons, I went with the Minas Ithil weapons for yet more geometric details. Fingar’s Lost Scale has a similar shade of tinted grey as the chest, albeit darker. I added the Light Aura to lighten the color and because when else will I use such a flashy weapon aura? And since there is more white/silver than gold, I used a Midsummer instrument.
