hi, i’m leah, 23, and a fan of drarry fanfiction (that’s the actual fandom i am in now, i don’t care about canon and haven’t in years haha)

this is where i’ll keep anything related to fanfic that i enjoy

99% of the time i read only same sex hp fanfic. they are about 90% draco/harry 8% sirius/remus and 2% hermione/pansy (just because those are so much harder to find)

i prefer fanfic of them as adults, with a fair bit of angst and i’m partial to non-magical settings or interactions. serious topics are my thing; mental health and relationships etc.

also i am such an avid reader of non-epilogue fanfic that i honestly forgot it was even real. no epilogue with awkwardly named children here.

for years i’ve been reading fanfic to take my mind off things and i would only ever read it in private mode on my phone and never making any comments or even saving links… now i miss the old fics i’ve read and i’m done with doing that, obviously this hobby has persisted for years so it might not really be a phase anymore haha

i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.

Honestly one of the MANY great things about the Drarry fanfic classic “Running on Air” by eleventy7 is its magnificent treatment of Astoria. This fic rightfully gets a ton of acclaim but I haven’t heard enough praise for Astoria’s development in it. It preserves her character arc of wisely rejecting blood supremacy after the war, but saves her from JKR’s inexplicable “blood curse” BS fridging and lets her live happily ever after with her Muggle wifeguy of a husband and sweet child as she should. I think we can all agree that this is what REALLY happened to her. Who’s with me?

I was thinking about how Mskingbean89 confirmed Grant Chapman to be based off of a real person and it made me wonder if the real Grant Chapman knows he’s Grant Chapman. Like does he know that there’s a fictional character Harry Potter oc based off of him that people loved so much they dedicated a whole month to him. Does Grant Chapman know how loved he is.

Writing advice from my uni teachers:

If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.
